Hi. ChuckM is an advocate for banned user Joe Canuck. There is a high probability that they are actually the same person, though this hasn't quite been proven to 100% certainty. There is also a high probability that these users are both banned user DW.

ChuckM is angry with Jtdirl who was one of the people who objected most strongly to Joe Canuck's activities (mostly uploading of probably copyrighted stuff to Wikipedia, combined with a generally abusive tone, ie legalistic threats that if the images were removed, his rights were being violated, and those who did it would be "held liable", etc).

Most of it comes down to that... Evercat 02:30 27 Jun 2003 (UTC)

You can turn the numbering of headings off in your Preferences page. Turn off "Auto-Number Headings". -- Someone else 01:29 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Hiya. I deleted Ian Stuart Donaldson. An article that consists simply of four words of bumph like that can be deleted straight away rather be left dangling around on the VfD page for a week. Hope that is OK with you. (If you find any like that, and you are not a sysop (are you?) put them on the VfD page and then some sysop with delete them when they spot them. take care. FearÉIREANN 07:05 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hi. No, I'm not a sysop. I've only been here a while, I could hardly qualify. RickK 07:06 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hi, First I works on other more good subjects on fr: wikipedia, but as my english is bad, I try to works only on what I think, really important forgiven things, on english wikipedia. Please read whole my writing and write me about every thing you think is bad. I only want that everyone know that I think it's important to don't forgive bad things. This avoid to see it again. I think, ethymology, is also important for the word terrorism, because The Terror was the first use of the word terrorism(e), and it's a proove that people forget the past. The Terror in France was similar to Cultural Revolution in China, two period of time were people blinding killing people that don't think like them, thinking that was the best thing for civilian liberty... I think that United States do great job, helping to stop Germans Nazi or Japan horror in Asia (Nanjing massacre in China for example), but it's important to say that killing 135,000 citizens in Dresden is not a little thing, also you deleted entry about Tokyo, few people remember this horror that was more destructive that the two atomic bombs events, there's a very good japanese film animation about file-bomb droping from United States in Japan, called Grave of the Fireflies. This film is not against United States but against horror of war and what live two little childrens (war is more than a television news or video games). I don't want to deserve a nation, but I think a lot of american people don't know a lot about them own history or refuse to know it (deletion of entry without searching if that's true or not). I think that's the same in France (as I'm French) about The Terror period, Napoleon and Charlemagne invasions around Europe, and a lot of France colonialism. School in France very often forgive this horror as I think United States forgive in school horror of Napalm in Vietnam, fire-bombing in Europe and Japan, pushing dictatorship in Latin America, and will forget massacres in Afghanistan and Irak (and the fact that Ben Laden & Hussein was first aided by CIA respectivly against Soviet Union and Iran). People of this two arabian countries didn't ask for it. Stop to only look at stupid state manipulated movies or television, and look books in your library, you will learn a lot. And don't forget that Bush gvt say that want to invade Irak for weapon of mass destrucion and most of countries disagreed. There's a lot of people killed today and no WMD discovered.

I think today it's a period to remember all this fact, as today american president, doesn't follow great American constitution, but follow a lot of Hitler or other dictatorship rules. Don't Forget that this familly fortune was made first by Prescott Bush on slavery over jews in Auschwitz camp and that today, Bush Family and Ben Laden Family have got common companies. And think (and ask ingeeners) that the probability than a tower collapse perfectly vertically is really very low (and for two...), without very high engineering of timing and placement of explosive (and search about Reichstag and Hitler in germany) and about CIA declassified document 'A Program of Covert Operations Against the Castro Regime'. I have got friends around the world (including americans) but I see that today only some american people living in america doesn't open eyes, as germans did during WWII.

I'm not islamist, I'm not communist, I'm not pro-french (I hate french governement like a most of french). I'm only (I hope) free thinking person.

sorry for my very bad english 62.212.110.113 11:52 6 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I thought you might be interested in the opinion poll going on now at Talk:Clitoris. MB 18:10 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hey, seems like you are into sports conferences. Maybe you could do the Pacific Ten Conference some justice. I might get around to it, but that's a lot to bite off. Sticking mostly for now with stuff I know in Oregon. Dmsar 10:58 10 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment on my work on Demonology. I'm glad you like it. Thanks also for adding "of France" to Louis XIV, sometimes I consider obvious something that is not, but you are right, I should have to put it (I never get upset when somebody is "tinkering" with "my pages" especially if it is constructive, as it was, I am thankful). Congratulations for your knowledge on athletics too. The Warlock 06:15 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Jeez man, "great minds think alike" and all that.  :) Maybe I should go to bed. - Hephaestos 06:16 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Regarding Talk:Zoe; as far as I can gather the namespaces are a relatively new thing, and user pages once went into the main name space. There's a discussion about that page on User talk:Zoe -- Jim Regan 07:31 13 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the complement! It means a lot after receiving a good amount of criticism, albeit from only one user, over the necessity of a detailed article coving postwar American history. It's a difficult undertaking, but more and more it's becoming obvious that it was necessary. Stan charged that the content would be redundant, but I'm finding that this was the first article to cover the Reagan administration in depth. I'm even more surprised that it's probably the first article on Wiki covering these demographic shifts, given that there was no link to either "Sunbelt" or "Rustbelt." Gradually, all the topics will be interconnected, making for a more cohesive flow. Right now, the article's still far from finished. So thanks for the encouragement! 172

Not all all, Rick. Thanks for helping! You restored my page successfully, the only difference was that the page history was over at User:Vagina. So after Eloquence had banned the user, I swapped them back and restored. Often, I think it's easiest to wait till a user has been banned or got bored and gone off-line before doing that stuff as it saves doing it twice. Nice to meet you, by the way.

Cheers -- Tony (Tannin)

Just ignore him for a while, hes just a poor fellow that needs attention.

Hi Rick, just wanted to ask you about the Chardon, Ohio page .. I live there and it became a city officially in the last census as the village population passed the mark to be considered a city, at least in Ohio. Thanks for looking after the page tho ---User:Karlwick

Hey, thanks for pointing out the mistake with Kalawao County, Hawaii. Looking at the census map, I see where I went wrong. With this many images, there are bound to be some mistakes somewhere. Let me know if you find any other problems! -- Wapcaplet 00:26 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Many thanks, Rick - Graculus 00:34 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I completely forgot to mention I nominated you to be a sysop on Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship. If you'd like that, go get it, you seem to be a shoo-in.  :) - Hephaestos 08:28 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)

re: your note about the Comparative military ranks, I'll integrate the tables. I'm guessing you're running into the same mess I did the first time I tried to create a table in Wikipedia. It's not the friendliest part of editing. If you'd like to kick around my lessons learned on how to build tables in Wikipedia, we could trade emails off-line. Rossami 02:39 16 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hi RickK, I've changed back the article that was called Jack Russell terrier to that name. The American Kennel Club may have renamed the breed but no-one else has and the Parson Russell terrier would mean absolutely nothing to anyone outside the US (which is most of the planet! :-) ) If dogbreeders worldwide changed the name worldwide then the article title would require changing. But as of now, in nearly 200 countries the breed is called Jack Russell, in 1 it is called Parson Russell. So at most the Parson Russell name change in the US requires a line at the end as a postscript, not the renaming of the entire page. lol FearÉIREANN 05:02 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Ah. OK, thanks for the explanation. RickK 05:05 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)

You have to state that the temp page is of poor quality or User:172 will get angry. Pizza Puzzle

Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban signed in users. What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban anonymous vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Votes for deletion for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are, among them the precious Main Page, up to date.

Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information at Wikipedia:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Have fun! --—Eloquence 01:35 28 Jul 2003 (UTC)

MoS

Hey - Please check out Mike Gravel. It is now in the preferred Manual of Style format. Cheers! --mav 22:09, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Hi, RickK. User:12.203.10.240 seems to be a happy newbie. He/she is spewing out lots of articles about fictional characters, with lots of typos. I'm trying not the bite the newbie. I understand your point about not wanting the redundant links, I'm just not sure how to contact the person. An edit war may discourage them. Not sure what to do. -- hike395 03:18, 14 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Subheadings on Current events

Why did you remove the subheadings from the Current events page? You did not participate in the discussion about this. Unilateral removal of additions without explanation is rude and therefore in violation of Wikiquette. Please explain your reasoning on the talk page, or restore the headings.—Eloquence 20:59, Aug 16, 2003 (UTC)

VfD

When you list a page on Votes for deletion you must say "Listed on Votes for deletion" on the page you are listing. Otherwise the page will not get deleted.--mav 00:59, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)

When did this become a rule, and where was it discussed? RickK 01:11, 17 Aug 2003 (UTC)
answered at Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion

Lowercasing acronyms

Any reason why we should use lowercase for CALABARZON, MIMAROPA? They are acronyms like NATO, AIDS, and UNICEF. Last I heard, they haven't gone the radar and scuba route. --seav 02:28, Aug 19, 2003 (UTC)

An Executive Order stated the names in UPPER CASE. So officially, it should be CALABARZON and MIMAROPA.

OK... somehow my edit of Patchouli just overwrote yours without giving an edit conflict. Want to give it a look see and re-add anything you think it needs? --Dante Alighieri 04:29, 19 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Rick, I thought I put on that page that I own the copyright. I am signing the images that I upload with my username as signature. Perhaps it is not clear enough, perhaps I should put the following:

Answering your question on my talk page: Rick, User:RK has several times tried to shove whole debates onto my talk pages, and not onto my /ban page where it would go if he had a real issue with me, but into new files he created. This eventually ended up at Community case:RK where those who dislike /ban pages are now considering ditching it all. So RK doesn't respect conventions, nor my talk space. I owe him no respect in return. Beyond that, my comments were only about this one article he posted, and if you look at that article, you will see a link to "discuss this page". I clicked on it, and ended up at the page I dutifully posted on, so anyone else discussing the article could find it. So I don't consider this disrespectful - which shoving it in the face of every reader of his User_talk page would be. Third, and more like an in-joke, referring only to an earlier joke I made on that page, RK has accussed me of harassment, hate speech, etc., in a series of lying and libelling posts to the mailing list - this is persistent behaviour of his and he does it to others, often, and sees conspiracies where really there is just a common consensus on civility. So if everything I say on certain topics is to be understood as harassment, hate speech, sickness, etc., then, I am free to adopt those labels freely to describe what I am about to say about his politics, or (worst) to describe his politics. After all, RK is not being banned for using those words, so why should I be? When he's banned for his behaviour, I shall certainly take the lesson and never call anything "hatespeech" or "harassment" under his criteria. Until then, I think everyone should call anything they don't like by those words. EofT

Hi, RickK
Where did you manage to get Lynne Thigpen's autopsy?. I'm just curious to see it in context: I'm wondering, reading between the lines, whether "acute cardiac dysfunction, nontraumatic systemic and spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage and hemorrhage in the brain" means "her heart stopped because she had a stroke" or "she had diabetic cardiomyopathy with ventricular clot formation that caused a multiple systemic strokes that caused disseminated intravascular coagulation that killed her". Either way I think the Cause of Death would be stroke and the others ancillary causes... At least it's clear that there was not "heart attack" as no coronary thrombi are reported. -- Someone else 11:45, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about Parade. I'm mostly curious because it was such an issue here at the time (not natural causes vs other, but ascribing cause of death to "heart attack" on really no basis<G>) -- Someone else 03:42, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I think we should unblock all those Henrik IPs, since his IP seemed to be dynamic. What do you think? Oh, btw, you know your talk page is protected? Evercat 00:52, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I think you're right. Go ahead, or I can do it, if you want me to. Yes, I know my Talk page is protected because Henrik was floating around. I'll unprotect it. RickK 00:56, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Done. Evercat 01:00, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Sorry, about that but the person was right about the langs of Norway I verfied that with World Book Encyclpoedia, I revearse all his other edits he/she did prior to that, but the he seems to be right at least about the langs Smith03 01:12, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

The policy states that the specific date is needed (the year is not enough) in order to have that article listed under the anniversaries section. If you add articles, you should also remove them so it fits the 800 screen. --Jiang 01:23, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

You need to change "labor day weekend" with specific dates. You should also add new articles to the top of the list, not the bottom. We remove the bottom ones first when we add in new articles. --Jiang 01:27, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Apparently only a limited clique is allowed to update the Main Page. Fine, I'll stay away from it from now on, no matter that I might think that some things belong there. RickK 01:51, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Just update the article by adding the current date. Then all is well. --mav

I took the liberty of restoring User:Rikke/Temp; it's not really hurting anything in my view, being in the namespace that it it's in. I think there may be a possibility of eventually turning this boy around. (Unlike with some whom I won't mention.) - Hephaestos 04:10, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I don't see how. He came into the place defacing George W. Bush and United States and has gone downhill since. RickK 04:12, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I did. Up to a point. All in the record, and I feel completely justified (not to mention satisfied) in getting him out of here now. I'm just trying to figure out a way to block 80.213.1. - Hephaestos 06:06, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Never mind, just figured it out. It'll take about five minutes. - Hephaestos 06:09, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)
