may I misquote you?

About that whole "unencyclopedic" thing on VfD: I think you may have taken the negative comments too personally. The comments didn't seem to be directed at you; it was more like "I think the term 'unencyclopedic' is tautological," not "RickK is a goddamn idiot for using the term 'unencyclopedic', and we should beat him with sticks." I hope you will take it in the spirit of goodwill and sincere concern when I say it seems to me that you tend to read more into such comments than is actually there, and thereby cause yourself a good deal of unnecessary stress. Tangentially, I have moved the discussion of this topic to Wikipedia talk:Deletion policy#Unencyclopedic. Cheers, Cyan 09:14, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind me taking a quote of yours out of context for my talk page. You said "one can but hope" on my talk page when talking about newbies using the preview button more often, but your comment appeared underneath my statement that vandals will be eaten by Anthere's cricket and it seems funnier to leave it there. Just delete if you prefer not to be misquoted. Angela 20:40, 30 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Re: "Yars' Revenge"

Yes, it is consistenly "Yars' Revenge". I will dig through my old owners manuals and such to see if I have a copy of this one, to see what grammar Atari used in it (or the mini comic book it came with). Perhaps they refer to the hero as "Yars" rather than "Yar"? I'll get back to you...

OK, I checked the Yars' Revenge manual. The hero is always referred to as "Yar", therefore the spelling of the title is grammatically incorrect. So, I guess the question is, should we observe the improper title bestowed by Atari, or should we go with what conventional wisdom says the title should be?

I reworded Wikipedia:How to start a page a bit. Perhaps it will encourage newbies to use the preview button more. Angela 02:04, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

No I was trying to figure out why all of sudden there are blank pages on the list of governors of different states on the list of incumbant page Smith03 02:30, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

As the User talk:Robert Taylor page has no direct relevance to the Robert Taylor page, I didn't see any benefit in putting it there. As it is a message to you (and for reasons I never fathomed, to me), it should have gone on your talk page in the first place, so I think the sensible thing is for you to have it. I have put it at User talk:RickK/RT. Feel free to delete it if you have no further need for it. Angela 20:23, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Have a look at User:Cyan/chain and Wikipedia talk:Personal subpages to be deleted. I think we might actually be to able wring a concession out of him. What do you think? -- Cyan 02:10, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hi. What's up with the reverts of User:216.220.98.61? My admittedly cursory glance at his stuff found nothing wrong... Evercat 02:42, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

He constantly rewrote "Condominium" as "Condiminium", and changed USA PATRIOT Act to read "Ex parte Qurin" instead of "Ex parte Quirin".

No he didn't. He actually fixed the spelling of condominium in [this edit], which you reverted. Also, his correction to USA PATRIOT Act seems to be correct according to Google. Ex parte Quirin gets 1600 hits, you reverted to Ex parte Quinn which gets 28. Evercat 02:50, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Ouch. I seriously misread what he was doing. I'll fix it and apologize. But what about the Trading with the Enemy Act page, which has misspellings added to cover up good spellings of page names? RickK 02:54, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Just a spelling error in the piped piece of the link, I think. Evercat 02:55, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Actually, I don't see any such problems in his version of the page. I've rolled them all back. Evercat 03:05, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I am User:216.220.98.61 and am also very curious why, when I make my first contributions to Wikipedia, you feel the need to revert all my changes. I corrected an error with USA PATRIOT Act, I made the Trading with the Enemy Act page both readable (something you claim to care about but insist no one else does) and meaningful, and I made what I feel are important additions to the Halliburton entry.

Clearly this can't be anything personal since you can't possibly have any idea who I am (other than the fact that I'm a New Yorker who uses DSL, if you bothered to find that out). So are you just unable to read the output of diff?

More than that, why the rollback of the Halliburton entry? I didn't change any existing text — I simply added more information about the company. There are no errors apparent to me in my additions.

It seems, frankly, that you simply decided to rollback every change I made — without regard to the changes themselves. More than that, you chose to rollback my changes wholesale rather than making any appropriate changes while mantaining whatever value may have been in my additions and modifications.

I apologize if I seem combative or rude, but I'm sure you can understand my frusteration at seeing literally every single change I've made to Wikipedia rolled back.

Surely this is not the way a WikiWikiWeb is intended to operate. By the way, my apologies for over-using "Save Page" and not showing preview enough.

You're quite right. I made a serious error, for which I have apologized on your talk page at User talk:216.220.98.61. The "Diff" option was giving me confusing results. I would have reverted what I had mistakenly overlaid, but an emergency cropped up, and by the time it was corrected, Evercat had already reverted my mistake. Again, I apologize. RickK 01:04, 26 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Rick, at the time I wrote this I didn't know about User talk. I've read that, and I accept your apology. My apologies, in fact, for coming down so hard on you. User:216.220.98.61

Rick, I didn't ask you to be a nosy jerk, I didn't ask you to start trying to "correct" my editing style. That's something you decided to do on your own. I do think that you're out of bounds for doing so.

So I'll ask you again. Lay off my page. I'm not interested in your annoying meddlesome behavior. Dwmyers 14:53, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Rick, How does that look? By the way, I am a nitpicker, too.

Michael Reiter.

Thank you for your constructive and friendly message. I am sure that your communications will do a great deal of service in facilitating better interpersonal relations. LirQ

Blocks

It would be nice, if people unblock blocked ISPs, that they explain why they do so. An explanation is required to block them. RickK 01:58, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I think they are automatically expiring after 24 hours now due to a change in the code. Angela 03:48, Sep 23, 2003 (UTC)
I moved this off talk:Main Page, because I'm not sure it was relevant there, but I didn't want to just delete it. k? Martin 15:06, 26 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I have dealt with Said in Lebanon(see my comments on VfD). Do you think my solution is a good one? -- Cyan 07:20, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)

That anonymous user's contributions aren't really widely off the mark, but are, IMO, not as good as before. Changing which bands are representative of hair metal or some other genre is inherently POV, and I'd be willing to discuss these with him, but only if he discusses what he wants to change and why. Otherwise, I'll just keep on assuming they're nothing but opinion-insertions. Tuf-Kat 03:17, 29 Sep 2003 (UTC)
