Just dropping you a note to inform you that I will not be deleting the Taiwanese nationalism → Taiwanese independence redirect, and have instead redirected Taiwanese nationalism to Taiwan independence to remove the double redirect.

While your points regarding the difference between "nationalism" and "independence" are valid, terms do not need to be exactly synonymous for a redirect to be useful. The terms simply have to be similar enough that one could reasonably expect someone looking for one article to possibly type in the title of the redirect. I believe that's the case here, so I didn't delete the redirect.

However, please note that you may still (if you wish) turn the Taiwanese nationalism redirect into a full article about Taiwanese nationalism, in a way that distinguishes it from Taiwanese independence. Re. the photo of Chiang on the balcony in Second Sino-Japanese War

Usually when I see that photo, it's in reference to the Lushan declaration, Chiang's de facto domestic declaration of KMT resistance against Japan. I actually don't know if that's correct or not, but I imagine that Chiang would find more motivation to give a major speech to his own people after Lugou Bridge. Your expertise in this matter would be most enlightening.  ;)

Would you think the term mainland China did include Kinmen and Matsu before 1945 (and did not include the Dachen/Tachen Islands until 1955)? The term may include the present-day Mongolia until recently. The border changes between the PRC with India, Pakistan, Sovient Union/Russia, etc., also complicates the matter, that time here is the fourth dimension. Should all these be better elaborated? Say, wouldn't it be good to have at least one historical figure rather than just a bunch of contemporary Han? I mean at least an emperor or Confucius whom I think is a great choice. I'm cool with Jiang Zemin though as that's at least one political figure and Yao's okay too, but Elaine's Chinese American and I'd rather see Confucius representing the history rather than an expat. Hi Jiang

I noticed you shifted the Spoken Wikipedia box for Flag of the Republic of China to the bottom for the reason of reducing whitespace. I'm about to revert this for a couple of reasons:

1. Each combination of browser, resolution, font size and Wikipedia skin will produce different varieties of whitespace. While it may have looked unsightly on your machine and what you did made a difference, on my machine (1024x768, Firefox 1.5, "Normal" font size, Monobook skin), it's made no discernible difference whatsoever.

2. By shifting the Spoken Wikipedia box to the bottom, you've basically hidden it out of view from the majority of people who will come across the article. The guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia#Templates_for_articles say that the box should be at the top of the article, not at the bottom. This is so people are alerted to an alternate method of "consuming" the article.

Ah sorry... I thought you meant white space underneath the Spoken Wikipedia box, not between the first image box and the Spoken Wikipedia box.
