November 2011

Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Darrell Lunsford. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, without the risk of speedy deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. I have userfied your recently deleted article to User:Inexpiable/Sandbox. You may find it helpful to raise it for for comment at WP:RFF. (talk) 14:13, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Nobody is doubting the truth of this, but an article should provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. I think a police memorial website is hardly an objective source. Youtube is not acceptable as a reference, and in fact you should not have links to Youtube videos on wikipedia. That leaves the NY Times, which is fine as a reference, but there are two problems.
  • Please see this policy.
  • The newspaper article (and for that matter the memorial site) did not support everything in your article. If you are adding your own interpretation, that is OR

I made these changes. Some are MoS (times, marijuana isn't a proper noun), some pov — we can't know he was overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana, some factual — I don't think that even in Texas that the police can convict and imprison suspects without legal process. Look what I've done to the NY Times ref; using [url description] makes your refs look much more professional and easier to read than a bare url. Incidentally, why don't you give the murderers' names? If you're happy with the changes, then post it again, without Youtube, I won't delete it.Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:32, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Banned from Television

Hi! A belated Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for working to improve the site by creating Banned from Television. However, the section titled "Controversy" had to be removed, because Wikipedia cannot accept unsourced material or original research. This includes material lacking cited sources, material obtained through personal knowledge, or which constitutes the an analysis or interpretation by the editor that is not found in cited sources. Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. If you ever have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 19:11, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Cúa hostage crisis

Hi! I noticed that you were the main creator of the 1998 Cúa hostage crisis article, thank you for creating it! I started translating it into Spanish even though I planned to do it months ago. I'm leaving this message because two other hostage crisis happened in Venezuela in previous years: the San Roman Tragedy in 1995 and the Terrazas del Ávila kidnapping in 1996. The main differences between these situations is that in these first two the rescue operations failed, resulting in the deaths of the hostages. I'm planning to create the articles in Spanish and I would be pleased of also translating them into English, so I thought you might be interested in helping. Tense

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Your recent edits to The Jeremy Kyle Show have incorrect uses of tense; our Manual of Style states that Wikipedia articles are always written in present tense, unless they discuss subjects who are deceased, that no longer meaningfully exist, or events that have previously occurred. Articles discussing products or works are always written in present tense, even if they are discontinued, as the discontinuation of a product or work does not always mean that it no longer exists in any form.

For more information about writing articles in the correct tense, please see the relevant sections Manual of style and our guide to Writing better articles If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on Wikipedia. (This applies to TV shows which still exist even if they're no longer been aired. See MOS:TVLEAD and Talk:The Jeremy Kyle Show#Stop changing lead from "is" to "was".) Rollback granted

Hi Inexpiable. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Mz7 (talk) 05:36, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of an edit

So let me get this right, you've twice removed an edit from the list of Serial Killers, because the serial killer doesn't have his own wiki page, even though he is a serial killer?

"There is currently no Wikipedia page for that particular serial killer and there is no pending draft. The list is already reasonably long, if we started adding serial killers to the list without a Wikipedia page then the list would go on forever."

There are plenty of lists on Wikipedia which lists something that doesn't have it's own Wiki page. As for the length of the list, if it gets too big then why not make it into more than one page. I've not looked but I bet the person I added isn't back on the list which will make the list incomplete.

Do India’s largest financial newspapers don’t quality as “reliable sources”? I fail to understand if the reputed news sites are not considered to be reputed enough for Wikipedia?

Rohittrix (talk) 08:10, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice :)

I'll look into Billie's case now that you've mentioned it

Also thank you for linking/improving my articles, I'm a law student and one of my modules is centred around Wikipedia, I had never edited an article before so I really appreciate your tips. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mandolawian (talk • contribs) 00:14, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Inexpiable,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:31, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Federal Death Row Inmates

Hello I want to apologize for that weird edit, I was counting from the Terre Haute list and added the 2 at ADX to the math and I got 43, unfortunately the other 2 I forgot to count were in the "Former Death Row" list which are currently awaiting a retrial (total of 3 inmates counting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev).

Thank you for helping me catch my mistake.

Help With Editing

Hello, Can you help me add that fact that Henry Montgomery from Montgomery v. Louisiana was just paroled i am having trouble with the edit as it keeps getting reverted and as you just succesfully edited this page Payne v. Tennessee could you edit Montgomery v. Louisiana for me please?--Afjnsd (talk) 20:08, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inexpiable, just a quick FYI and I won't bother you again. This user is almost certainly a sockpuppet of Cadeken (talk · contribs), a prolific sock master who has edited similar pages with numerous sockpuppets. The editing pattern is identical. See WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Cadeken/Archive. They will deny it, as Cadeken socks always have. If they continue editing I'll make a report at WP:SPI. Sundayclose (talk) 20:17, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sundayclose: Hey thanks for alerting me. I'm aware of who he is and suspected it as well. I've read over the archive history and recognize some of the names on the list. Very annoying edits he's been making, especially the serial killer stuff which has already been confirmed as wrong and incorrect. Although, some of his edits have been genuine, even if they are poorly sourced and worded. I don't know what the policy is regarding sockpuppets making edits and if they should all be reverted even if some are technically correct. I think the best thing to do though is report him at SPI. He's clearly going to keep going based on his edit history, why he would bother to I have no idea, but he seems determined not to stop unfortunately. The Montgomery edit he wants me to make is genuine though so I don't really know what to do in regards to that. Are you happy for me to add the correct info in regards to that case and source and word it properly into the article? In the mean time I would report him at SPI so it's done with or else he'll keep on going and this back and forth editing will never end. Regards. Inexpiable (talk) 21:05, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I just made an SPI report. Sundayclose (talk) 21:08, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sundayclose: Good stuff. I have updated the Montgomery page though in regards to the latest developments in that case with proper sources and formatting, otherwise I'm sure he'll just keep editing it on other accounts in the future. If the information is going to be added it may as well be done properly and reliably. Inexpiable (talk) 22:09, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Alton Harris

The categories for Robert Alton Harris label him a serial killer, but he's not present on the American serial killer list. Not sure if he should be labeled a serial killer or not. Lightiggy (talk) 16:52, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lightiggy: Thanks. I've removed the categories from the page. He is definitely not a serial killer. Inexpiable (talk) 17:02, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Leroy Keith

You have access to Newspapers.com, so can you help with Leroy Keith. I'm trying to cite the fates of his accomplices, Louis Johnson and 16-year-old Joseph Reinthaler. From what I can see in the previews, Louis Johnson was convicted of first degree murder in Ohio, but avoided execution after the jury in his case recommended mercy. Reinthaler was tried as a juvenile and sentenced to an indeterminate term in the Ohio Reform School. In addition, an Akron Beacon Journal page dated April 26, 1959, titled "Life Was Always Cheap To Keith" has what appears to be a much clearer version of the current image on his wiki page, so I'd greatly appreciate you replacing it with that, if you can.

Orlando Hall

Can you provided clippings from newspapers.com from the Fort Worth Star Telegram on the sentencing of Lisa Rene's killers?. The article is dated September 22, 1996. It list the specific charges some of the men accepted guilty pleas for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lightiggy (talk • contribs) 19:29, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Coleman

Shouldn't Charles Coleman be listed as a serial killer. It says "despite killing at least three people, he was never convicted of the murder of Seward's wife and his conviction for Lewis' murder was overturned." The implication I get from this text is that he definitely murdered three people, even if he was executed with only one murder conviction standing. So, shouldn't Coleman be considered a serial killer? Lightiggy (talk) 04:36, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lightiggy: No because two of those kills were together. Serial killer definition is three or more murders at different times/locations. Unless you can find a source that specifically lists them as a serial killer that's the definition. Inexpiable (talk) 09:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Serial killer question

What makes Beardslee different from John Ruthell Henry? Henry is listed as a serial killer, and he did almost the exact same thing as Beardslee: Commit a single murder, serve time for it, and then commit a double murder after being released. Lightiggy (talk) 16:04, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Aaron Conner

In that case, I'd say Indiana murderer Kevin Aaron Conner is a serial killer. I was considering writing an article for him, but decided not to. Conner killed three people on the same day in 1988, one of them in a different location. Shortly before his execution in 2005, Conner also confessed to killing a fellow death row inmate, Jerry Thompson, in 2002. Oddly enough, I believe Thompson himself is a suspected serial killer. He was convicted of murdering three people in 1991 over exactly one month, two at the same time. Using the definition you gave, Thompson isn't a confirmed serial killer, but it looks like he was also charged with murdering a couple later that year, but those murder charges were dropped.

Article on sentencing of Lisa Rene's killers

Sorry, but I have to make one last request for a newspapers.com clipping about Lisa Rene. The page is from the Fort Worth Star Telegram and is dated September 10, 1996, on page 51. The caption reads "Judge decries 'heinous crime', but notes cooperation in plea agreement". The article is about the sentencing of Demetrius Hall, Holloway, and Beckley, and the judge's very harsh words for the trio, especially Beckley. In the previews, the judge told Beckley he deserved to be executed and that he likely would've gotten a death sentence had he not cooperated.

Newspapers.com

I see you have access to newspapers.com, and I wanted to know if you could clip an image of Darnell Collins from https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/476508390/. I am making an article on him and my subscription to newspapers.com has expired.

Owen Feener

How about Owen Feener? Owen "Mickey" Feener is a suspected Canadian serial killer. He is suspected of up to eight murders from the 1950s to 1960. At the time of his arrest, police found the photos of eight missing or dead women and girls on his car. Feener was convicted of murdering one of them, his girlfriend, K. Chouinor, sentenced to death, and hanged on June 13, 1961, at the age of 23. Newspapers reports at the time state shortly before his execution, Feener confessed to another murder, that of Dolly Woods, whose photo was also found on his car. Feener became one of the last men to be executed in Canada before capital punishment was abolished. This is all of the information I could find since I don't have a newspapers.com subscription, but it looks like Feener's daughter wrote a blog titled "The Man I Never Knew". I would appreciate if someone wrote an article about Feener. Lightiggy (talk) 00:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Persons' ages in article(s)

Why would you remove the age of people involved in the event at the time? It makes reading and understanding relations so much easier because one doesn't need to reference each person's date of birth and do mental math every time the article mentions a specific date. Let alone the fact the paragraph talks about late teens/early adults, a serious distinction in court.

Also the young age of Patton's death is interesting (I couldn't find more information on the cause of death although admittedly I haven't dug deep and far enough). His date of birth is not mentioned in the article so one cannot even do the math.

It would make a lot of sense if you reverted your edit. 2604:3D08:7386:200:8CD5:FEAE:FC28:5554 (talk) 08:42, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

James W. Hutchins

James W. Hutchins was initially CHARGED with murder. He was only convicted of manslaughter after claiming self-defense. Stop removing it. Literally all of it is sourced. That said, I've removed the parts saying he was a serial killer and added several more sources which talk about the 1954 killing.

Lightiggy (talk) 15:37, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lightiggy: Now it is, it wasn't before though. You must source every sentence, which you did not do with the Wesley Ira Purkey page. Your edit here: [3] "The company which Purkey worked for, Reddi Root'r, later agreed to pay Bales's family $500,000 to settle a negligence lawsuit over their failure to perform a background check on him." You provided no source for such a claim which is why I reverted that as well. The source needs to be at the end of the sentence. And if it's used multiple times you need to give it a ref name and resource it throughout the article. Inexpiable (talk) 18:42, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I added sources for Purkey, too Lightiggy (talk) 18:56, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lightiggy: Good, interesting find. But please also start using wording like "who had", "he had", rather than who'd, he'd, etc. Only use apostrophe's when it's in quoted text. So please change this sentence and any others that also use this wording style: "Hutchins, who'd been hitchhiking while he was AWOL, killed Weibel after the driver picked him up in New Mexico."
