:Sorry to keep bothering you Doc. The Fowl Knight is becoming even more annoying and that is affecting my mental and physical health, hence I'm not able to solve his comments. I asked Ssven to do something, but he hasn't responded (if his [[Doctor of Philosophy|PhD]] exam was the reason, he should have put <nowiki>{{wikibreak}}</nowiki> or warned me in advance). Could you please do something? I no longer care whether Fowl changes his oppose into support or not. I just want his comments to be solved if they are rational enough. FACs operate by consensus, not votes, but if the co-ords see that his comments have been solved (regardless of his verdict), they won't fail the FAC. --[[User:Kailash29792|Kailash29792]] [[User talk:Kailash29792|(talk)]] 11:51, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Hotel Paxmontana
Xaisomboun Province
Grand Buddha at Ling Shan

As I no longer contribute to the main page DYK, from August 2019 I'll put up a few here of recent work for fun. Feel free anybody to further improve them!

What You Obviously Didn't Know...
 • ...that a "capuche", the term for a friar's long, pointed cowl, literally means "hood" in French, and was originally a symbol of punishment or shame?
 • ...that during World War II Jewish families hid out in hotels in the French village of Aiguebelette-le-Lac?
 • ...that every August in Nagqu, Tibet, the Kyagqen Horse Race attracts tens of thousands of herdsmen to participate in horseracing and archery contests and the women wear antenna-like hats?
 • ...that the Swiss hotel Hotel Paxmontana (pictured) was closed for a 26 million franc renovation in 2009-2011, which led it to being awarded by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS)?
 • ...that there is a village called "Moron" near Jiaqiong Town in Tibet?
 • ...that the German engineer Hermann Oestrich was a developer of the BMW 003 engine?
 • ...In February 2016, two Chinese officials were killed by a bomb blast in Xaisomboun Province (pictured), Laos, and that a Chinese firm has invested over $200 million in a hydroelectric scheme in the region?
 • ...two Bronze Age swords have been unearthed in the vicinity of Alcubilla de Avellaneda, province of Soria, Spain?
 • ...Saldang, a Dolpo village in the Himalayas of northern Nepal, likely means "Raised Place"?
 • ...that Wuxi, a city near Shanghai with over 3 million people, contains the world's largest bronze Buddha statue, the Grand Buddha at Ling Shan, at 88 metres (289 ft)?
 • ...that "Wizo the Fleming" was granted the church at Uzmaston, Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1230?

Hi Doc

Hello there, Doc. How's everything with yourself? Good I hope. I really do indeed hope you are doing well here and outside of Wikipedia (saying this as a fellow editor, friend and well-wisher).

BTW, I've nominated this film article about a poignant yet funny love triangle starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The link for the FAC is right here. If it it not too much trouble, you leaving comments at the FAC would be most welcome and beneficial to the overall improvement of the article. I will be willing to do any QPQ for you. Thanks. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:21, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ssven2. Never felt better in fact, something in particular happened to me today which I will remember the rest of my life and will change how I think about it. 10:29 am 10 July 2019, a sort of miracle in a way! It's been a special day here! I'll try to look at this on the weekend! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:44, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and I do hope the miracle is a good one for you. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:40, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia 10,000 challenge

Hi - I came across this wile stopping by KJP1's talk page - I've signed myself up, but can you explain a bit more how it works - do I just add new articles to the end of the list here? And can I add articles that I wrote before I signed up? I started writing articles a couple of months ago, and all of them would probably qualify for this (they're mostly about listed buildings in Scotland, with a smattering of English buildings and a couple of architects) - they're listed on my userpage if you want to check. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 07:58, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Girth Summit: Hi, yes, feel free to add any of your articles to the list. Welcome aboard!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:42, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I confess that I actually got impatient and added them already! I'll update the list as I go along now, it's nice to feel part of a project. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 19:49, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful @Girth Summit:, great to see articles like Dunphail House!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:52, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! My only concern about that one is that I don't have an image to accompany it yet :(. I'm slowly working my way through the List of Category A listed buildings in Moray, writing articles about anything that doesn't have one yet. I'm hoping to do a road trip at some point to photograph all the buildings that I can't find images for - probably won't get round to that this year though, maybe next summer.
Anyway, this seems like a fun thing to be involved with, so thanks for organising it. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 20:05, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RMF

The Rheingau Musik Festival is in full swing, and today took me to the place we expanded together, - great Schumann music with artist in resence and orchestra receiving the prize today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like it would be a good weekend!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:11, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Friday

o

Got you a cup of coffee
As we can't just bop over to the local coffee shop for a cuppa, this will work, too. Happy Friday. Rosiestep (talk) 13:19, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
May I join? I really just took a sip of coffee before opening this ;) - my 10th year here completed today, can you believe it? A DYK about an opera to celebrate, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:56, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course, Gerda Arendt. In honor of as you completing your 10th year, I also ordered some sacher torte. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:26, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's lovely, Rosie, thank you. "Baking a cake is an act of love"! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:34, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, thanks Rosie!!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:44, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

TFA! Thank you for your part of Keswick, Cumbria, "a small town, known as the capital of the English Lake District. Its history goes back more than 700 years, and its literary associations are remarkable, from the Lake Poets to Hugh Walpole"! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:43, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks GA, Master Tim riley was a pleasure to work with! The panorama image is one of the best I've ever seen for TFA!♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:53, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I remember working with Tim on Messiah, and many more. Then I annoyed him, and don't even know what it was. What do you think of this 2018 comment? - I just had reason to remember that you called me monster once, and I took it as a halloweenish joke, instead of breaking up relationship (or secretly complaining at T&S or arbcom which seems the latest fashion, - see Fram and Ritchie) ;)--Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:42, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Du bist kein Monster Gerda Arendt! I've been learning numerous languages of late, German is one of them, just bought a new Collins German dictionary! Aufgezeichnet is my German word of the day! Mein name ist Blofeld. Ich wohne in Belgien. Wie geht es ihnen heute Gerda? Feel free to speak in German to me from now on, I might learn more that way!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:12, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here's your lesson: "Du bist kein Monster, Gerda." or "Sie sind kein kein Monster, Frau Arendt" - Thank you. I believe that times changed. What do you think about Yay!? (Forgive if I asked you before, my memory is bad.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:23, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Another lesson (on top of that Bermicourt identifies as a native speaker of English): The capitals in the barnstar were all good before you revised ;) (Ihre, Übersetzungen, Laufe, Jahre, - "Ihre" vs. "ihre" when polite 2nd person singular vs. 3rd person plural) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:29, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: Danke. Why so many capitals? I know Bermicourt isn't German, but he understands it and I learned something writing it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:33, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ich möchte einen deutschsprachigen Artikel übersetzen. Welcher Gerda Arendt?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:39, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All nouns are capital in German. - You can go over the articles on my talk page, and look for ill-links in German. Take for example three in Hans-Georg Münzberg. I am busy FA writing, or would do them myself ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:45, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Vielen Dank für die Lektion Frau Arendt. Ich werde Hermann Oestrich übersetzen. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:48, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ich wäre lieber Gerda ;) - danke für die Übersetzung. "Lektion" is a word of many meanings in German, and often used negatively. "Hilfe" perhaps, or "Unterweisung". - What do you think about Yay? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:05, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vielen dank Gerda Arendt! My new word of the day Entwicklung=development! Ein wichtiger Ingenieur, ich bin überrascht, dass er fehlte. I was looking for the German word for "lesson", what would I use in that context?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, Hilfe (=help), Unterweisung (=instruction). "Lektion" sounds organised and a bit rigid, like the parts in a text book, - and used in "Wir müssen ihm eine Lektion erteilen." (we need to teach him a lesson. - Finer points ;) - So many people are missing. I was told - in the German Wikipedia - not to write about people "aus meiner Umgebung" (=from my area, surrounding, - people whom I know. Should I translate then, or ignore that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:17, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda Arendt Well there is WP:COI, if you feel in any way like you know the subject and it affects writing the article just state so on the talk page. I wouldn't worry about it, you always write neutrally and well. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:23, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Define "interest": yes, I knew him, but his active life was over long before he died years ago, and yes, I always try to be neutral. I wrote about five of "my" conductors, and Tatiana von Metternich and many others I am proud to have known. I didn't write about Pierre Boulez, although we shook hands ;) - One ping per thread and day is enough, btw ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ich habs! Pierre Boulez. Aufgezeichnet Entwicklung! ;-) Berühmter Komponist! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:41, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ah Tim wrote that article. Wunderbar!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:44, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: I'm gradually currently sorting out the Province of Soria with new, consistent infoboxes, such is my abhorrence of them! See how useful and pretty Aldealseñor is! It just needs an article longer than the ibox now! Mein deutsches Wort des Tages ist "entscheidend"! = "Essential"! :-).♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:13, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for sorting the province out! I believe infoboxes are helpful for some readers, but I don't waste time convincing people ;) - Some come to understand that without me ;) - I have this peer review open, the greatest music publication before Bach and Handel who came 100 years later, and I have guests in anticipation of tomorrow's concert, - one flew in from the U.S. More on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:24, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looks a great article, I will try to read it within a few days! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:30, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Basque towns

I finally got around to adding a snippet to Zumarraga. I must say you did a pretty good job on it. If you are still interested in expanding Basque towns, I recently came across Errenteria, the birthplace of one of the Basque women I've been writing about. There's quite a bit more about it in the Spanish version.--Ipigott (talk) 09:38, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Ipigott. As I was saying to Rosie I think I'll try to start to commit to improving some of our stubs on localities, not just Spanish world but also French and Italian. With a lot of them a few sentences would make a big difference. I just destubbed Aiguebelette-le-Lac. Every municipality by now should at least be minimum like that, frustrating! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:31, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

De-stubbing Spanish, French and Italian towns would be really useful. Let me know if you need any help.--Ipigott (talk) 11:40, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ipigott: I just destubbed Acquafondata. Could do with more work but no worries if not.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:03, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nagqu

Great to hear from you again after such a long time, and sorry I have taken so long since you sent your request for help on this page - things have been hectic here recently. As you may have noticed - I haven't been doing much on WP recently. This is because I have been focusing on my large, and still growing, book on the 3rd century Weilüe - a seemingly endless job - but I thrive on the research - it is the very best medicine - but it is hard not to gallop off down new side-tracks all the time.

I don't know whether I mentioned to you previously that I am now almost totally bed-bound with a gradually collapsing spine. So, although the collapse is relatively slow, and certainly not life-threatening, I have been getting worried that I may not be able to complete my book in time. So, I have been focusing on that recently rather than the WP.

However, I have had a look at the View History page on Nagqu to find it completely covered with records of your edits. Congratulations! Yes, it certainly did need some help and you have done a sterling job so far. It is far more informative, and better reading since all of your contributions. I am not sure how much more I could add to it now - but, if you feel you would still like some help with it, I am happy to have a search through the references I have here to see if there is much else of note which should be added to it. There should be at least some more references or links I could add. I will see how I go.

Hope you are well and having fun. I send you my very warmest wishes. cheers, John Hill (talk)

Request for a little help

Hey Doc, been a while, how are you? Great, hale and hearty I hope. I would be ever so grateful if you helped me and Kailash29792 with Mullum Malarum's FAC (The link is right here). If you remember, you had reviewed this article for GA back in March 2014, just before I came here officially. This article has since gone on to fail at the FAC 3 times due to various reasons. It would be really great if you had a look at it post haste as the FAC might close without the article getting promoted. Thank you. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:17, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: Vanakkam eppati irukkirirkal? Is that close enough, your text is weird LOL. Was that really five and half years ago!! OK. Congrats BTW on the FAC!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not bad at all, Doc. The transliteration is "Vanakkam, eppadi irukkireergal?" btw but you are close! If you mean Legend of Bhagat Singh and Kal Ho Naa Ho then thank you very much for your wishes and yes, 5 and a 1/2 years before, that long (even before Baba Yaga came along lol). As I said, Mullum Malarum is having a spot of bother at its fourth FAC as it is facing a major oppose from one of the reviewers there due to the style and grammar in which the article is written. I would appreciate it if you could lend a hand over there for me and Kailash so that the article doesn't have to fail for a fourth time. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:31, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vanakkam eppadi irukkireergal.! Got it! :-) I'll look later, promise!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:32, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Mikka nandri, anna" (Means "Thank you so/very much, elder brother"). I wouldn't be pressing you on it so much if it wasn't urgent. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:36, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: Enta piracciṉaiyum illai! Mikka nandri!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:41, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Good on ya, mate! Oru siriya thiruttham (A small correction). Its "Endha" actually. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:48, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: In Wales more common would be "Nice one butt, tidy like"! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:51, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I'll keep that in mind. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:53, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Mr rnddude is pointing out much of Naman Ramachandran's statements that need to be re-written/clarified. Since it is becoming increasingly stressful to multitask, here is the link to the chapter where the film is covered for you both to see and find out what to do. And thanks Ssven for reaching out to someone. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:38, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Fowl Knight Strikes Again! (In case you didn't understand the reference, here it is). He's becoming increasingly hard to please and his comments even harder to address, so I gave up on him after he gave oppose. But since you both have access to Naman Ramachandran's book, can you please read it (just pages 80 to 82) and see what to do, primarily with the plot and themes? I already removed a paragraph in "Themes" which he called badly written. --Kailash29792 (talk) 05:28, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It looks OK to me, you can't please everybody.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:19, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article ABI Technik has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable journal. Not indexed in any selective databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Randykitty (talk) 08:23, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to be cited in numerous books though, Google books @Randykitty:, take it to AFD if you have an issue.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:52, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 • Putting ABI Technik between parentheses already reduces the number of hits a lot. Then I scrolled down and tried one, choosing randomly, and "ABI Technik" is not mentioned in the whole book (in fact, neither "ABI" nor "Technik" seem to occur in the whole book). A smattering of citations is to be expected for any journal, but this appears to be very minimal. If there were more citations, the journal would have been picked up by at least some of the citation indexes. --Randykitty (talk) 10:41, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
