I'm not sure why you haven't picked up a bevy of these already, but thanks for all your effort, particularly in tracking down good sources with diagrams, etc., on the photography- and color-related articles (not to mention fighting vandalism). Those areas of Wikipedia are much richer for your work. Cheers! —jacobolus (t) 02:05, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For your improvements to the Centrifugal force articles. Your common sense approach of creating a summary-style article at the simplified title, explaining the broad concepts in a way that is accessible to the general reader and linking to the disambiguated articles, has provided Wikipedia's readership with a desperately needed place to explain in simple terms the basic concepts involved in understanding these related phenomena. Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Buster7 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

It is said by many that A picture is worth a thousand words. Wikipedia articles are vastly improved and enhanced by the use of images. Dicklyon's user page displays just some of the over 500 images he has added to Wikipedia articles making the articles more enjoyable and interesting for our most important commodity, our reader. WP:Photography. He is a long-time veteran editor with over 137000 edits (58% in mainspace) who always uses the edit summary to clarify his edits and communicate his intentions to following editors. He also participates in various timely and important WP:Manual of Style discussions to improve what and how we do things around here. A trusted, productive and helpful editor that deserves recognition as an Editor of the Week.

I've started to note the many scholarly contributions of this author, beginning with editing of the Wikipedia Cintel pages. For images and vision, I've had a lifelong career in color grading for feature films, tv commercials, videos, etc. with telecine and other systems worldwide; as a musician, 'Human and Machine Hearing' will certainly be fascinating. Thank you to Richard F. Lyon for providing the PDF of this work to all.

Capitalization of "Did not advance" issues

@Dicklyon: Hello Mr. Lyon, I sent you a message on your talk page about a month ago here about the capitalization of "Did not advance" in tables but I don't think you saw it. Sorry I should've made a new topic instead of adding it to an old discussion. Just checking in to see if you could address the issue with capitalization inconsistencies. 198.188.6.56 (talk) 18:55, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While there was no consensus, as you noted, you're right that they need to be consistent within articles, and you pointed out two where they're not. I'll fix those. I don't know any easy way to find more like that, but if you see any please point them out. Dicklyon (talk) 22:27, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Those 2 done. Dicklyon (talk) 03:57, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Dicklyon: Thanks for fixing those. I did a brief filter of your history and although it's not everything, it should be a good amount. You can look through here. Although, you can ignore some on that list because not all of them have the "Did not advance" on them. Mainly, I noticed a majority of articles were about World Games (there are less articles about the World Games and it can be found mostly here), Summer Youth Olympics, World Athletics, Asian Games, Youth Asain Games, and older Olympic Games. Hope you're having a nice day! 198.188.6.56 (talk) 18:08, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I looked through that 4200 articles automatically to find ones where the capitalization of "Did not X" was inconsistent; there weren't many, and fixed the few I found, back to capitalized "Did". But maybe I missed some; let me know if you see some. Dicklyon (talk) 00:10, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Sleeping with the One I Love" apologies

Hello again. I just wanted to apologize for my confusion with this article. For whatever reason, instead of fixing the credits for "Sleeping with the One I Love", I did this for a completely different article (Hood Boy). I am not sure what my deal has been lately, but I just wanted to apologize and let you know that article has now been corrected. I hope you are having an excellent weekend so far! Miniscule bot edits causing problems

Hi, is there a way for you to avoid mistakes such as this? Changing a correct link to the initiative by Ukraine to raise more military units to a gridiron position is well... not optimal.

Yes, that's way suboptimal and and I take full repsonsibility for the error. After your revert of 30 April I took steps ensure it will not happen again. I apologize for the trouble, and thank you for finding and fixing my error. Dicklyon (talk) 08:41, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was not me who discovered it but thank you for making it sure it was fixed. TylerBurden (talk) 23:07, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:JWB makes it pretty clear the user takes full responsibility when using the script, so it is probably worth looking into if there is a reason something is capitalized before putting it in to be fixed. TylerBurden (talk) 06:04, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Dicklyon (talk) 08:41, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

X round

Not sure why "reached the Second round", etc., is meant to look better. Seasider53 (talk) 11:16, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's a bug. I'm trying to do some cleanup passes to catch such things, but it's tricky with piped links. Got that one. I appreciate the feedback; do let me know if you ohter errors I've missed. Dicklyon (talk) 11:19, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Game # -> game num

When the RfC closes, can you have the script lowercase Game 1 to game one and so on? This is something I'm always critical of since game should not be capitalized and the number should be spelled out, but the source I grab from capitalizes, so I've been consistent in the effort of not having my work be redone. Cheers. Conyo14 (talk) 07:12, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there reason to suspect that's related to the RFC? I had done some like that already (just the downcasing, like I've done with 1st Round, etc., not the number, which I agree is also a good idea). Dicklyon (talk) 16:08, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, RFCs often don't ever close; they get forgotten and expire in 30 days, more typically. But with the clear consensus, we can probably ask for a close sooner. Dicklyon (talk) 16:12, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I don't have a script – though JWB is a script, I guess. To me it's an app that facilitates finding and fixing things, but it's not magic. Limiting that kind of change to contexts where it's not wrong is the usual challenge; I can try to do more of those. But numerals instead of spelled out words are so often misused that it will be hard to make a dent in them. Dicklyon (talk) 00:27, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move - Talk:2002 Davis Cup World Group qualifying round

Hey Dicklyon. I wanted to follow up about a requested move at Talk:2002 Davis Cup World Group qualifying round#Requested move 7 May 2023. It looks like only the pages listed at your request, and not the similarly named pages, had been moved. I went ahead and moved all the similarly named articles from different years in Category:Billie Jean King Cups by year and Category:Davis Cups by year. There was a total of 215 addition moves that I completed. I'm doing some post-move cleanup on the articles to fix the capitalization now and I just wanted to let you know. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:08, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks! Let me know if there are parts you'd like my help on. Dicklyon (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I think I'm all good. I finished up the cleanup with AWB. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:39, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found and fixed a few dozen, mostly not mine. Dicklyon (talk) 19:29, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing most of mine already! Dicklyon (talk) 19:36, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do not remember doing that, but thanks for your fixes anyway. 1234qwer1234qwer4 22:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Might have been another editor; but thanks for catching what that one missed. Dicklyon (talk) 22:45, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My watchlist is full of JWB edits that merely replace a valid and unlikely-to-change redirect. This is clearly not helpful to the project, as explained in WP:NOTBROKEN. Please modify your script to only submit changes that modify the link's display text. SounderBruce 20:36, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to prune out some of those. Life is easier when people don't complain about improvements just because they're minor. It's not like I'm adding piping or changing links that are not wrong. Dicklyon (talk) 22:17, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, WP:NOTBROKEN seems to encourage fixing spelling and other errors (e.g. capitalization errors, as here). I don't see that it discourages such fixes; mostly it's about adding piping to avoid redirects, which I don't do. Last time this was discussed, opinions were mixed, I recall. Dicklyon (talk) 22:49, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May 2023

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Deadman137 (talk) 21:55, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deadman, just because you reverted one of my edits doesn't mean I'm engaging in an edit war. And the discussion underway is clearly in favor of no hockey exception to MOS:CAPS. And if you're going to accuse me of something, please be clear what edit(s) you're talking about. Dicklyon (talk) 23:16, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
