Hi Adrian,
I have been doing some online research trying to find the original information about this particular picture of the Nut Goddess. There are numerous pictures like this on the internet, I came across your picture and thought I'd ask a real person that may be able to help me. I am painting this picture of Nut on a large canvas but I can't seem to find the image's origin and I need to enlarge without distortion or find where I can see the hierglyphics better in order to paint them properly. Thank you!

I have no memory of how I helped with this picture but my guess is that I cleaned it up in some way, maybe by altering the contrast, colours or tilt. Adrian, a user has questioned if File:USAF C-130J Super Hercules at RIAT 2010 arp.jpg is actually of a C-130J. As far as I can tell, from the angle of the 4 visible blades, these are 6-bladed props. BilCat, thanks for letting me know of the users deletion. Yes, this is most certainly a J model, it so happens that the other 2 blades lie up with the nacelle and can't be seen. This is proven if you look at picture http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1244860 on Air Britains website, which is the exact same aircraft (serial 78613). Good evening; I am impressed with your photography. I am the pilot of the Bristol Balloon and remember the flight well that you captured landing at Yate. I had flown to 8,000' from Bath and had a granny, her grandson (16) and the BBC presnter Sally Chanoller and her partner on board. A very memorable flight and lovely to see it recorded.

I will be flying the balloon tomorow morning (10/08/11) for the Press launch of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta whihc takes placve this weekend. The balloon is now 9 years old and has 310 flying and 60 hours tethering. Yes, it most certainly is my picture. My wife has the bracelet in her collection and I took the picture myself in February 2003. I declared it Public Domain (as with all my several thousand pictures on Wikipedia) so maybe my note of the photo date is wrong and maybe the magazine was careless and attibuted it to the wrong person. Thanks for writing. I bought the pig in 1995 at a shop called Crystals in a shopping centre called The Galleries, in Bristol (England). However, none of that really matters because the shop's stock changes regularly so there is no chance that pig will ever appear again. I still have it, it's 4 inches long and cost £100 at the time. Hi there, I did a painting of a mandarin duck for my dad as a birthday gift when he started breeding them. I used your photo as ref for the painting since it was the best one that came up on the google search.

Hello, I just noticed your edits on the Wiki entry. Thank you for your nice restructuring of the entry, a job well done. But I do have some comments on the edits, first being the pictures of the stairs. In the entry, there was a part: ".... The stairs from the front of the Badminton Hall to the Canteen were upgraded, as were the stairs from the Canteen to the field", and the pictures of the stairs were added to illustrate the upgrade, but I couldn't provide a before/after picture. Next, it seems that the school's vision and mission were omitted, was that accidental? Thanks for writing to me. I know that those photos took a lot of effort to prepare and add to the article (I have put several thousand aircraft pics on Wikipedia since I began editing in 2002). However, despite the effort, those pics are not encyclopedic. School pics might be of classrooms, buildings, sports, school activities, school staff or founders, but definitely not of steps or roofs. Those pics I removed looked strange in the article and I have never met anything like them in my editing of many thousands of school articles. It's not enjoyable to remove other people's hard work, but sadly it had to be done for the sake of a better encyclopedia

My removal of the Vision and Mission statements was intentional. Such statements aren't allowed on Wikipedia because they can apply to any school in the world so carry no information to the reader.

I changed the pics to be in a vertical strip because there are now a lot fewer pics on the article. You are, of course, welcome to rearrange them

I have found the following facts regarding your past which excited myself:
"I'm retired, after working at British Aerospace Filton for 36 years. My work included Concorde noise measurements (as an acoustics engineer), then studies of the effect of Concorde on the environment (as an assistant environmental scientist), and finally Airbus A320, A330 and A340 wing design (as a senior aerodynamicist)."

On my part – I am in the Aeronautical Engineering educational filed – working more than 50 years permanently as a staff member – initially Warsaw TU, then Rzeszow TU, then 9 years teaching Flight Mechanics in Tripoli at the Aeronautical Engineering Department, then returning to Rzeszow TU eventually I reached the professorship (from the hands of the late President – Prof. Lech Kaczynski - on April 17, AD 2008). I decided to close my educational field where I left behind me some few books by writing two volume opus on Aeroelasticity – being my narrow field of specialization (where I took both scientific degrees: Dr and Habilitation) - presenting the subject restrained to the problem of the interaction between an airplane and atmospheric gusts. The first book on the gust response studies is now ready for printing. And there is a one interesting topic. Leading to something common between us if we have in mind your photographic hobby.

I decided to expose and commemorate with this book a one single airplane - the bomber B-52 which at the early designing stage underwent catastrophic accidents in the gusty conditions causing tragic casualties due to the faulty design of its rudder. In those accidents always has been damaged the vertical tail. After five such accidents 1963-64 – the Boeing discovered the technical fault: the vertical tail had to be redesigned and after that - the incidents have been definitively ceased. Having this in mind I came to the idea that B-52 can be understood as a symbol of the fight between Man and the Nature. Therefore I place on my book covers pictures presenting only this airplane in different configurations. One of such pictures (I still did not fix how many I will place there – but it seems 6-8 pictures will play the game) has been taken by you, the other are pictures made by some military photographers – due to the fact that they can be freely copied – one more by Timothy Beach who kindly allows me to use it.

Thinking that all stated may become interesting for you – I decided to write this letter and will be grateful if you respond to it.

Hi from England!

Thanks for writing to me, your letter was very interesting.

I joined British Aerospace at Filton in 1960 as an aircraft electrician but found no "intellectual stimulation" in wiring Brittania aircraft (!) and so worked my way up the company, ending with the post of Senior Aerodynamicist (I am now retired). On the way I got a B.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bath in 1966.

In Aerodynamics I had a very narrow specialisation on Parasitic Drag Control which, as you will know, is control of the drag of excrescences, bumps, misfitting rivets, out of alignment control surfaces, rough paint, waviness, gaps etc. So I received every Airbus drawing from the Filton design office that involved the standard of the wing exterior surface, calculated the drag penalty and, if necessary, changed the design to reach the standard of fit that my department demanded. I only dealt with the wings - the fuselage, fin and tail Parasitic Drag was looked after by Aerodynamicists of the Airbus partners in Spain, France and Germany.

Luckily I had to personally check the wing build quality that was achieved so went frequently to Chester in Wales to check wing sets, and to Toulouse (36 times) and to Bremen and Hamburg (6 times) to check completed A320, A330 and A340 aircraft.

My best job in Acoustics Lab (that I was Head of) was to measure interior Concorde noise in flight, in the cabin and on the flight deck. Of course, I gave myself that job!! So I went on five Concorde test flights (to a total of nineteen hours of flight) with my portable sound level meter and portable tape recorder.

I think my favourite aircraft in all the world is the B52, I only saw one flying once at departures day at the Fairford Air Show (Fairford is about 50 miles from where I live). A most majestic machine!

Thanks for your question. Although I have removed students names from hundreds of school articles over the past few years you are the first person to ask about where the ruling can be found.

Note that other encyclopedias such as Encyclopedia Brittanica or the defunct En Carta never give student's names, and Wikipedia is no different. The ruling on the subject is at:

The relevant bit (in the quote below from 5.1.2) starts "Specific students......."

"Extracurricular activities – Mention the sports team(s) of the school and what is notable about them. Here is also a good place to mention specific traditions of school, like students' union/student council activities, a student newspaper, clubs, regular activities, etc. The heading may be changed accordingly in regard to the importance of sports, clubs, traditions, students' unions etc. For example, alternative headings could be Students' Union, Sports and Traditions or Students' Union Activities. Specific students should not be mentioned unless they are notable in their own right. Major extra curricular championships should be appropriately listed in a "Sports", "Athletics", or "Activities" section. Major extra curricular championships will be defined as the highest possible championship a team can win from that activity's organizing committee. In the United States, this would nominally be a "state championship". Individual awards should generally not be listed. National championships, when referenced, may also be listed. "

Thanks for writing. The reason I edited the museum article is that it appeared on a Wikipedia page called cat:promo (which means "Category:Promotional"). To see that list just type cat:promo into the search box on any Wikipedia page and the page will appear somewhere near the top of the results list.

The "cat:promo" page is a list of articles that sound (in whole or in part) like an advert. I am working my way through that (massive) list and the museum article was in it (I don't know why it's in the list, it doesn't sound like an advert to me!). I edit 10 or so such articles each day, and then remove the Advert tag at the top of the articles.

Looking at my edits of the museum article I notice that one is wrong. I deleted "traditional" near the beginning but that was wrong because the sentence makes better sense with traditional left in (I'll correct that). The other edits are mostly for what I call padding words. For example "The museum has close links with the local community and offers many different activities for local schools and educational groups". Thanks. I'm sure our English can be improved, so help always welcome. The Museum is genuine and the entry is intended to (obviously) help motivate visitors. I suppose that borders on Advertising, but all statements are truthful. We have just received a major Lottery grant to improve our museum layout and presentation, so I will be updating our entry with that aspect soon..

Yes, I took that picture. I don't know what use you have in mind but, because I make all my Wikipedia pictures Public Domain, you are welcome to use it wherever you wish and to modify it in any way you wish. I don't have a better quality version anywhere so to acquire it you can left click the pic to get the full size version and then right click to to save it to your computer. I'm the person who wrote the football history on the Iona Prep Wikipedia page, and I'd like to know who you are why most of the content was deleted. I spent a lot of time and effort to add the information, and I don't like to see my work arbitrarily deleted. If you're 3,000 miles away in England, you don't know anything about Iona Prep in the first place.

Nobody is forcing anyone to read content on Wikipedia, and if someone is bored with too much information, they can very easily skip over it.

I added the information to the article a few years ago, and this is only the second time that the content has been mangled. I would like to reinsert the information, but I don't want the content to be modified or deleted a second time. A lot of articles on Wikipedia have far more content than Iona Prep's article. Deletions should be handled with caution and common sense.

Thank you for your message. Here are my replies:

"I'd like to know who you are?" I am a highly-experienced Wikipedia editor (as I see you are from your Contributions record) who knows extremely well what is OK in Wikipedia and what is not. I have edited nearly every day since 2003 (many thousands of articles).

"I don't like to see my work arbritrarily deleted" Of course not but it was not "arbitrarily deleted" it was deleted because it was not according to the structure expected in a Wikipedia article! An article should not be totally dominated by one of the articles's sections, in this case football results.

And it is no longer "My work" once you click Save. Anyone who finds a fault in the article should correct it. The feelings of the writer unfortunately cannot be a consideration. The problem lies with yourself in not realising the entry length was majorly out of proportion with the rest of the article.

"I don't know anything about Iona Prep". Of course I don't!!! I live in Bristol, England But I do know what a balanced article looks like so knowledge of the school is irrelevant.

"Deletions should be handled with caution and common sense". Not so, they are handled according to the rules of Wikipedia!
