re: Boeing 737

Hello, thanks for your gentle comment. It was just natural to get rid of that picture, given its dubious © status and the residual advertisement graphics. Had I checked the talk page, I might have even done what you suggested there (and what the user who had included all those images in the first place has done now). Cheers, Lupo 08:31, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks again!

Dear Arp: What would I do without you?? Sam told me recently he enjoys articles more with photos, and it made me realize how stale they look without pictures, specially airline ones. Im very picky when it comes down to choosing which photos to ask for rights to inclusion here, I like ours to show the airlines name and logo clearly so people can see what their livery looks like.

That said, you came through again! The next rights I got granted, although I have many, many rights granted, but the next ones are for the Dominicana de Aviacion, Aeromexico and Aeroperu articles. I will send them to you ASAP and dont worry, I know youre a busy man so Im not in a hurry:)

Thanks from the bottom of my heart and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, your friend , Antonio Gotta see the London Underground in my lifetime Martin (ps: I discovered why I cant upload photos from one site of the net to another: low memory in my ancient (1999) model..lol)

Picture size

Hi, I agree that 300px is at the "outer limits" ;-) for thumbnails; so far, I just tried to keep the images at their original size. But, I will try to remember reducing the thumbnails to 250px in the future, which ought to do just as well. For those I already did, feel free to fix them. BTW, thanks for uploading so many great images in the first place! --Magnus Manske 22:07, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Thanks again!!

Dear Arp: Hi! Thanks again for the photos. Once again you come through! Now, Ive been noticing you havent been answering my messages. I hope youre not mad at me!

I know that you must have a long list of pictures to be uploaded, let me know if you need a breather. But youre one of my favorite persons to work with aat wikipedia. I have the next batch of airliners ready to be sent, let me know if you want them.

Thanks and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Pink Cat Martin

Dear Adrian: Thanks for uploading the new photos! Its good to hear everythings good at home! As far as here, my mother is getting tested for Cancer again. If no bad news comes before the weekend I will be busy pursuing my other hobby besides wikipedia, planes and boxing: autographs. Muhammad Ali, Celine Dion, Prince, Evander Holyfield and Ali's daughter Laila, who is making quite a name for herself as a boxer too, are going to be in town Saturday at a charity event and God willing that mom comes out ok, Im planning to be there.

Well, soon I will send you a new batch, specifically a Midwest Airlines photo that was supposed to be sent with the last batch but because of a small misunderstanding I had with the airliners.net people (I clicked on the wrong photo ID and thought they'd changed the photo I had permission for was changed into one of a United Airlines plane) I wasnt able to send it. Thats clarified now, so that one will be sent to you soon, as well as one of Skyservice and NCA.

Ive been asking for photos to include on articles Ive written about airlines, being specially good to those who have sent me plane models for free but also to hispanic airlines. Monarch was excellent , they sent me one, they were real nice. So was NCA, they, British Airways and Palmair each sent me two plane models for free. I see it as a favor back to them. But in BA's case I already saw they have photos at their article anyways...I also have Fina Air, Fine Air, Cubana de Aviacion and other airline photos coming up pretty soon.

Well keep mom in your rayers. Thanks angain and God bless you! Idf I were to write an article about you what can I say it would be very POV because youre an excellent friend and wonderful man.

Sincerely yours, your friend, Antonio Wikijunkie Martin

Pic link not working

Hi Adrian. The Opera House pic at Sydney is not viewable in the smaller size but ok expanded. Don't know how to fix, so.......Ta. Cheers. Moriori 02:12, Mar 28, 2004 (UTC)

I've started a new WikiProject: WikiProject Trains. I'm inviting all Wikipedians who are interested in trains and railways to take a look and decide if they want to get this going. Thanks, —Morven 23:32, 29 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi! I took your great photos of Victor and Vulcan bombers into Polish Wikipedia. Aren't both of your Victor photos the same machine? (of 1961?) Wouldn't it be Victor B.2 variant? As for Vulcan: wouldn't your photo be Vulcan B.1 ? Thanks. Pibwl 18:50, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

After searching the Net for pics for the last several days, I'm quite convinced they are the mentioned variants. But do you remember, if these towo Victors are the same plane? (it would make the things easier). Thanks for sharing such exclusive photos. Pibwl 22:51, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)

About Yate article--struck close to home, eh? ;-) I find that it's usually easier to just change text than it is to try to get someone else to change it to match your ideas (unless I'm being paid as a tech writer mentor, which I sometimes am, but even so--I think people can learn a lot from seeing their writing edited). The current Yate edit could be even more NPOV and downplay the surveys even more. Coincidentally, while I was following some other dubious edits, I found this--check the history for original version and very POV editor. I just went in and changed the article (what there was of it to salvage). It's still pretty trivial info but probably accurate and probably NPOV. 'Course, you've been around Wikipedia much longer than I have. I don't think Dash was really throwing down the gauntlet and he might or might not get NPOV and encyclopedic writing, but he did make a lot of edits trying to address some of your concerns, and maybe he benefited/would benefit from seeing stuff edited as well. So I'm all for more/more interesting info on Yate. Imagine--they have a McDonald's! Do they have a Starbucks, too? (trying to keep a straight face...) Elf | Talk 20:17, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Dear Adrian: Hey! Thanks for the message! As far as renaming the List of boxers to List of male boxers and then making a List of female boxers, what do you think?

I cant wait til you upload the new photos I sent you, the articles will look great with your pages, as always! You always do a great job, mucho kudos to you!

Meanwhile check out my latest, Nicole Powell. The girl's won so many awards that I thought Id would take me one year to finish the page so I sorta condensed the info a little..lol and check out my latest progress on my ongoing work Boxing in the 1930s, let me know what you think!

Thanks, and God bless you!

Hey Arp: You got mail!! hehehe! Oh by the way, Im a Puerto Rican living in Phoenix, Arizona....13 years here, and let me tell you, Phoenix is more and more Mexican than American well, which fits me well, I like being in contact with my Hispanic culture but for that reason I nicknamed myself the Puerto-Mexi a long time ago..LOL

Thanks and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Puerto-Mexi Martin

Hey Adrian: Thanks again1 Once again, excellent job! I believe the next photos will be destined for the Palmair, Air ALM and Atlas Air Cargo articles..LOL Im only nice to the airlines that have sent me free plastic plane models in that way..lol They send me free plane models, you and I give then free promotion through article and photo here..LOL. (although the promotion term can be dubious as I list accidents, bad periods and everything related to the airline!) hehehe! gotta be NPOV here..lol!)

Ok anyways, thank you and God bless you1 Once again, great work!!

Regarding the EK A340 pic

The pic was mainly for the Emirates article, to show the "flagship" of their current fleet. WhisperToMe 08:32, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Duplicate pics

Arp - there's no need to upload both 750px and 250px images. If you upload a 750px image, you can auto-resize it on the article: [[image:my_image.jpg|200px|My Image]] - UtherSRG 14:03, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I'm well aware that the new syntax self-generates a thumbnail but my big and little pics are only for taxoboxes. I don't know how to do a taxobox in the new syntax so rather than do nothing I use the old syntax. It still works fine, I've just done Coscoroba Swan and Emperor Goose that way. If you know how to do a taxobox in the new code, please apply it to, say, Emperor Swan then I can copy your method. Best Wishes, Adrian,
Adrian Pingstone 14:13, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I've modified both the goose and swan. :) - UtherSRG
Many thanks, I very much appreciate your help, taxoboxes will be loads easier to illustrate from now on!
Adrian Pingstone 14:23, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Muy agradecido

Hey Adrian! Once again thank you for your hard work putting the photos I asked permission for. Your hard work is very appreciated, and as they say in Spanish, Im muy agradecido that is, very thankful.

Thank you and God bless you!

More Aircraft Images

Hi Adrian, how you doing? I hope you won't be too upset but I rm'd the image you added to Aviation History, as I felt it added nothing useful to the article, being neither a historically significant type, nor a specific aircraft that was of historical interest. An image may well help to improve this page, since there is a lot of text there, but this one, I felt, wasn't it - maybe a pic of something more relevant would be better? Also, I'm a bit unsure what the benefit of the 737 pic on the main Aviation page is, though for now I've left it there. While not irrelevant, it also doesn't really add anything to the article, since I cannot imagine anyone who has heard of aviation not knowing what an aeroplane looks like! I feel (as you know) that we should guard against creeping page bloat, and stay focused on making articles tight and relevant, though I would like to hear your (and others') views on this. Graham 23:12, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Beech King Air

We have a picture of a Beech King Air 100 available at [1]. I listed Beech King Air on the requested articles page, but I couldn't find any sources for the aircraft family, neither for the 100 model, so I couldn't sit down to write the article since I'm unfamiliarized with the subject. Raytheon Aircraft has information about the 350 [2], the B200 [3], and the C90B [4] but no information about the 100. Any help would be appreciated. :-)

As always, thanks for all the contributions that you make to the project,

Michael | Talk 05:31, Apr 21, 2004 (UTC)

images

Adrian, can you have a look at the image formats Nicobar Pigeon and Green Imperial Pigeon, in both the current revision by UtherSRG and the previous one by me. There is relevant comment on Uther's talk page too. Since they're your pics, you might wish to express a view. jim

I looked at the Tree of life talk page, and the decision to reduce the standard picture size down from 250px doesn't seem to be in there, although you suggest that 200-250 px is acceptable. On the project page, the recommendation seems to be yours. I can live without the mag glass, but my view is that the images should go back to the previous 250, and, if we are not using the mag, to revert to the media: format to make it clear that there is a larger image.

However, I don't want to start an edit war just yet, so I want to consult Bigiron and Tannin as the other main pic contributors. Jim

Thanks!

Dear Adrian: Once again, you come through! Im gonna start calling you John Paxson! The player who always comes through when most needed! Thanks for everything, and God bless you!

One more time!!!

Dear Adrian: I'd feel like a goose if I didnt thank you again for helping me with the photos of the new airliners before going on to my next article of today. You are making the wikipedia brighter every day both in intellectually and with your colorful photos.

By the way, Im into Fashion as well, so my little part of Steven Cojocaru in my mind says great choice with that blue shirt on your photo! You really hit it on target. I believe that that type of blue will be the red of the 2000s when it comes to dressing. Nice choice!

The next batch of photos will be arriving about next sunday, including one for the Cubana de Aviacion article and a couple others.

Thank you, and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Fashion Police Martin

Hi Adrian. Just wondered whether there was some reason for not moving these to ATR 42 and ATR 72 (since you're right, those should be the titles). --ALargeElk 14:59, 14 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

autothumbs etc.

I've been listing your old thumbnails and small picture versions on images for deletion. (Currently on the May 15 section.) They're mostly orphans; the ones that aren't, I've been orphaning. You have an impressive array of pictures you've taken. This will take me... a while. Grendelkhan 05:40, 2004 May 16 (UTC)

Can I use these pics on WP?

This is the copyright notice for a site I want to use as a picture source, [5]:
"All the pictures on this site were taken by Jo Mitchell (unless otherwise stated) and may be used for legitimate and legal purposes provided credit is given. It would be appreciated if you email Jo to request permission for use of images. Most images are available as high-resolution scans (up to 4000dpi) for use in print and screen media - please do not hesitate to ask for further details. Copyright is retained at all times by Jo Mitchell. Thanks"
Can I use these pics (if I check with Jo Mitchell first) and what would be the copyright notice I should use on the Image Description Page? Thanks for any help,
Adrian Pingstone 18:51, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Goodness whether "legitimate and legal purposes" is, formally speaking, a restriction incompatible with the GFDL, but it does sounds like Jo would respond favourably if you explicitly asked for a GFDL licence (for the low-res versions) via email. Pete/Pcb21 (talk) 19:17, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
There are a couple of pre-written permission-asking templates at Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission -- they cover most of the important points. Modify as needed for your purposes. Catherine - talk 01:56, 15 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Arp: Just wanted to introduce you to my dad, who is a new contributor here. He goes by the name Tony. You and him will be great friends.

Oh by the way the new, Iran Air photo you put there is my favorite airline photo of all time! Not only does it show the airline's name and logo perfectly, but it gives me the impression its about to hit that house! I got the chills! I loved it!

Well, say hi to dad. Thanks and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio Dark Wings Martin

I was just thinking, it would be nice if you could find a picture of Frank Whittle to go in the article. I wouldent have a clue where to find one but I thought you might be able to. Cheers. G-Man 21:24, 27 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Motorway

Hi there,

Your tag lines on your edits to the Motorway article last month were not sufficient. You made other minor edits besides those described. One of your edits had an error which was not detected until today - changing the hard shoulder lane demarkation to "white line line". Doubly wrong, as the original description, a dashed yellow line, is correct for Ireland. The article is now corrected with both situations mentioned. Please be more careful in your edits. In this case, simply mentioning "minor edits" (plural) in the tagline would most likely have gained another's or my own attention.

Thank you, Zoney 23:24, 30 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I hope Adrian won't mind me springing to his defence on his talk page, but this seems a bit harsh. Adrian is a fine contributor and this is a very minor transgression. There are others who are far worse when it comes to annotating their edits appropriately. It's not as if the annotation is even compulsory! I too find it a bit irritating when people mark their edits as minor when it clearly isn't, but since the guidelines are widely interpreted, we just have to live with it. Personally, I generally never mark mine as minor unless its just a typo fix, etc, but others impose their own rules. I think you might want to wait awhile until you build up more experience before criticising Adrian or others on this sort of level, it only tends to piss people off rather than getting them to conform to your strict standards which are not shared by all. Since you appear to have been here only since April, I would counsel restraint since Adrian has been around significantly longer and is a very reliable contributor. Don't forget we are all here voluntarily, and if it's not fun, we won't bother. Being shouted at by newbie users in general counts as "not fun" in my book. Graham 08:10, 31 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Zoney, thank you for your comments on the Motorway article. It was simply an error on my part to mark the changes as minor. I've been on Wikipedia every day (except holidays) since January 2003 so I know the "rules" even better than you do. Nevertheless I do make mistakes occasionally. It would have been much simpler if you had just made the corrections and saved me the nuisance of typing this. If I was a newbie then your notes would have been useful but I'm not, I'm very experienced on WP.
Graham, your defence of my innocent error is very much appreciated, thanks for noticing and spending the time writing to me. I would never mark such changes as MINOR and have no idea why I did so.
Best Wishes to you both - Adrian Pingstone 08:40, 31 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know, I was just kind of irritated that the error had remained for a whole month! I would have fixed it had I noticed it, but the comments obviously passed by my watchlist. I only noticed it when another user fixed it! Hence my (perhaps overboard!) complaint! Not to worry! (On the plus side, the above is probably as close as I get to a flame!)
As regards usefulness, yeah, some contemplation would have probably persuaded me not to bother. (At this stage, I wouldn't like to have every minor error in my edits alerted to me either!) Sorry to take up your time!
Zoney 11:03, 31 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr. Arpingstone: Hi! I would like to thank you for your welcome message on my talk page. It was a nice gesture of you to welcome me.

My son, Antonio has talked so much to me about you and the whole of wikipedia that I decided to give it a try. I am convinced that here, I am with the best of the best. It is an honor to share space with people such as my son and you.

I was in the United States Marine Corps and I went to the Vietnam War. However, if you look at my user page, I found multiple disparities while in the Marines. We were serving the same country, but I felt as if the minorities in my company (Hispanics and Blacks) were a world apart from the rest.

My main concern here are the biographies of Puerto Rican legends who may otherwise be not known to others. Those who think all Puerto Ricans want to be American citizens should look at the biographies I have written so far. Many of them were patriotic and pro independence.

I have seen several of your photos as well as the photo jobs you have done for my son. My son is always delighted with your work, and I have to say that you are a very talented photographer. My son was so impressed with the Iran Air photo in particular, that he even told me it was the best airplane photo by far he had ever seen.

Well, Mr. Arpingstone, I hope that we can collaborate on future articles. Anything you want to add to my articles, feel free to do so. Thank you very much for your greeting.

Best regards, Marine 69-71

Bird ID question

Hi Adrian, I wanted to ask you advice on a duck I've photographed. I thought it was a female Red-crested Pochard, but the male it was with doesn't look quite like your picture or examples I've found in books. Mine seems less crested, although everything else looks OK. Is the size of the red crest variable? Do you think it is the real thing or is it a hybrid? Thanks for any help -- sannse (talk) 19:29, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, that's great. I feared mine just wasn't crested enough :) I'll add the female to the article. Regards -- sannse (talk) 20:43, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)
