I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy.

::::tps Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says 28 July 2008 once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot absolutely be guaranteed accurate (Adrian might be a mad deceiver and might be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting might have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
::::For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for your gentle comment. It was just natural to get rid of that picture, given its dubious &copy; status and the residual advertisement graphics. Had I checked the talk page, I might have even done what you suggested there (and what the user who had included all those images in the first place has done now). Dear Arp:
What would I do without you?? Sam told me recently he enjoys articles more with photos, and it made me realize how stale they look without pictures, specially airline ones. Im very picky when it comes down to choosing which photos to ask for rights to inclusion here, I like ours to show the airlines name and logo clearly so people can see what their livery looks like.

:The Lawrence School, Sanawar
That said, you came through again! The next rights I got granted, although I have many, many rights granted, but the next ones are for the Dominicana de Aviacion, Aeroméxico and Aeroperu articles. I will send them to you ASAP and dont worry, I know youre a busy man so Im not in a hurry:)

Permission to use figure in a book.
Dear Adrian:
Thanks for uploading the new photos! Its good to hear everythings good at home! As far as here, my mother is getting tested for Cancer again. If no bad news comes before the weekend I will be busy pursuing my other hobby besides wikipedia, planes and boxing: autographs. Muhammad Ali, Celine Dion, Prince, Evander Holyfield and Ali's daughter Laila, who is making quite a name for herself as a boxer too, are going to be in town Saturday at a charity event and God willing that mom comes out ok, Im planning to be there.

Dear Adrian,
Well, soon I will send you a new batch, specifically a Midwest Airlines photo that was supposed to be sent with the last batch but because of a small misunderstanding I had with the airliners.net people (I clicked on the wrong photo ID and thought they'd changed the photo I had permission for was changed into one of a United Airlines plane) I wasnt able to send it. Thats clarified now, so that one will be sent to you soon, as well as one of Skyservice and NCA.
I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:

http://vr.cs.uiuc.edu/
Ive been asking for photos to include on articles Ive written about airlines, being specially good to those who have sent me plane models for free but also to hispanic airlines. Monarch was excellent , they sent me one, they were real nice. So was NCA, they, British Airways and Palmair each sent me two plane models for free. I see it as a favor back to them. But in BA's case I already saw they have photos at their article anyways...I also have Fina Air, Fine Air, Cubana de Aviacion and other airline photos coming up pretty soon.

We are hoping to include the picture of yours (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/60/Grey_square_optical_illusion.PNG) in this book (Chapter 6, Figure 6.23b). Could we please have your permission for this? Thank you.
Well keep mom in your rayers. Thanks angain and God bless you! Idf I were to write an article about you what can I say it would be very POV because youre an excellent friend and wonderful man.

About Yate article--struck close to home, eh? ;-) I find that it's usually easier to just change text than it is to try to get someone else to change it to match your ideas (unless I'm being paid as a tech writer mentor, which I sometimes am, but even so--I think people can learn a lot from seeing their writing edited). The current Yate edit could be even more NPOV and downplay the surveys even more. Coincidentally, while I was following some other dubious edits, I found this--check the history for original version and very POV editor. I just went in and changed the article (what there was of it to salvage). It's still pretty trivial info but probably accurate and probably NPOV. 'Course, you've been around Wikipedia much longer than I have. I don't think Dash was really throwing down the gauntlet and he might or might not get NPOV and encyclopedic writing, but he did make a lot of edits trying to address some of your concerns, and maybe he benefited/would benefit from seeing stuff edited as well. So I'm all for more/more interesting info on Yate. Imagine--they have a McDonald's! Do they have a Starbucks, too? (trying to keep a straight face...) Thank you and God bless you!

Greetings from across the Atlantic! I see that you wrote the article on Tillandsia, and I thank you. I think this genus of plants is of interest to many people and there is much more to be said. I have done a bit of editing to the article and failed to upload a picture of one of my plants in bloom for a reason that I don't understand. I think there is much more to be done instead of repeating that "some of these plants live in the forest, some live in the desert, some are green and some are grey, some have thick leaves and the leaves of others are thinner" which is almost the way this article reads :-), and without sources. Some of it seems to be badly translated from German, and tried to fix that. If there is a general work on this genus of plants in English that I could obtain by inter-library loan I would like to know about it, if you know of it. Briefly, my background is in biology, zoology, then law and then computers and computer networks. I wrote the article Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. ==More Aircraft Images==
Hello
Hi Adrian. We used to interact many many years ago here when I edited under a different name. I greatly value your contributions and I note you've been a bit quiet recently. Are you OK? I do hope so. With all good wishes DBaK (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi Adrian, how you doing? I hope you won't be too upset but I rm'd the image you added to Aviation History, as I felt it added nothing useful to the article, being neither a historically significant type, nor a specific aircraft that was of historical interest. An image may well help to improve this page, since there is a lot of text there, but this one, I felt, wasn't it - maybe a pic of something more relevant would be better? Also, I'm a bit unsure what the benefit of the 737 pic on the main Aviation page is, though for now I've left it there. While not irrelevant, it also doesn't really add anything to the article, since I cannot imagine anyone who has heard of aviation not knowing what an aeroplane looks like! I feel (as you know) that we should guard against creeping page bloat, and stay focused on making articles tight and relevant, though I would like to hear your (and others') views on this. Graham 23:12, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)
:: Hi from Adrian! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have been quiet for some years now. I mainly worked on inserting aircraft pictures and on editing grammatical errors (my greatest hate is use of the word “current”). However, most aircraft articles are now fully illustrated so I found I could use very few of my aircraft pics, and I have no interest in just adding them into the huge collection on Commons. I grew tired of editing grammatical errors, so have stopped all contributions but could come back one day. I do have a session of adding pictures after each Fairford Air Show so I will always add something each year. Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in :File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". I listed Beech King Air on the requested articles page, but I couldn't find any sources for the aircraft family, neither for the 100 model, so I couldn't sit down to write the article since I'm unfamiliarized with the subject. Raytheon Aircraft has information about the 350

Adrian, can you have a look at the image formats Nicobar Pigeon and Green Imperial Pigeon, in both the current revision by UtherSRG and the previous one by me. Dear Mr. Pingstone,
:I looked at the Tree of life talk page, and the decision to reduce the standard picture size down from 250px doesn't seem to be in there, although you suggest that 200-250 px is acceptable. On the project page, the recommendation seems to be yours. I can live without the mag glass, but my view is that the images should go back to the previous 250, and, if we are not using the mag, to revert to the media: format to make it clear that there is a larger image.

I would like to use your picture (Kelvin wakes on Avon) for an example discussion of

Motorway
Hi there,

Your tag lines on your edits to the Motorway article last month were not sufficient. You made other minor edits besides those described. One of your edits had an error which was not detected until today - changing the hard shoulder lane demarkation to "white line line". Doubly wrong, as the original description, a dashed yellow line, is correct for Ireland. The article is now corrected with both situations mentioned. Please be more careful in your edits. In this case, simply mentioning "minor edits" (plural) in the tagline would most likely have gained another's or my own attention.

Thank you, Zoney 23:24, 30 May 2004 (UTC)

:I hope Adrian won't mind me springing to his defence on his talk page, but this seems a bit harsh. Adrian is a fine contributor and this is a very minor transgression. There are others who are far worse when it comes to annotating their edits appropriately. It's not as if the annotation is even compulsory! I too find it a bit irritating when people mark their edits as minor when it clearly isn't, but since the guidelines are widely interpreted, we just have to live with it. Personally, I generally never mark mine as minor unless its just a typo fix, etc, but others impose their own rules. I think you might want to wait awhile until you build up more experience before criticising Adrian or others on this sort of level, it only tends to piss people off rather than getting them to conform to your strict standards which are not shared by all. Since you appear to have been here only since April, I would counsel restraint since Adrian has been around significantly longer and is a very reliable contributor. Don't forget we are all here voluntarily, and if it's not fun, we won't bother. Being shouted at by newbie users in general counts as "not fun" in my book. Graham 08:10, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

::Zoney, thank you for your comments on the Motorway article. It was simply an error on my part to mark the changes as minor. I've been on Wikipedia every day (except holidays) since January 2003 so I know the "rules" even better than you do. Nevertheless I do make mistakes occasionally. It would have been much simpler if you had just made the corrections and saved me the nuisance of typing this. If I was a newbie then your notes would have been useful but I'm not, I'm very experienced on WP.<br>

::Graham, your defence of my innocent error is very much appreciated, thanks for noticing and spending the time writing to me. I would never mark such changes as MINOR and have no idea why I did so.<br>
::Best Wishes to you both - Adrian Pingstone 08:40, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

:::Yeah, I know, I was just kind of irritated that the error had remained for a whole month! I would have fixed it had I noticed it, but the comments obviously passed by my watchlist. I only noticed it when another user fixed it! Hence my (perhaps overboard!) complaint! Not to worry! (On the plus side, the above is probably as close as I get to a flame!)

:::As regards usefulness, yeah, some contemplation would have probably persuaded me not to bother. (At this stage, I wouldn't like to have every minor error in my edits alerted to me either!) Sorry to take up your time!

Dear Mr. Arpingstone:
Hi! I would like to thank you for your welcome message on my talk page. It was a nice gesture of you to welcome me.

My son, Antonio has talked so much to me about you and the whole of wikipedia that I decided to give it a try. I am convinced that here, I am with the best of the best. It is an honor to share space with people such as my son and you.

I was in the United States Marine Corps and I went to the Vietnam War. However, if you look at my user page, I found multiple disparities while in the Marines. We were serving the same country, but I felt as if the minorities in my company (Hispanics and Blacks) were a world apart from the rest.

My main concern here are the biographies of Puerto Rican legends who may otherwise be not known to others. Those who think all Puerto Ricans want to be American citizens should look at the biographies I have written so far. Many of them were patriotic and pro independence.

I have seen several of your photos as well as the photo jobs you have done for my son. My son is always delighted with your work, and I have to say that you are a very talented photographer. My son was so impressed with the Iran Air photo in particular, that he even told me it was the best airplane photo by far he had ever seen.

Well, Mr. Arpingstone, I hope that we can collaborate on future articles. Anything you want to add to my articles, feel free to do so. Thank you very much for your greeting.

Best regards,
Marine 69-71

Hotels
Hi Adrian, I thought your beautiful photo was rather wasted down there in the "See also" section of the article on hotels (and, by the way, I do believe that three pictures of the same building showing exterior and interior make sense), so I found a nicer place for it in the newly created star (classification) article. If you don't like it there I'll go and remove it again, as I don't think the same photo should be used twice if it can be avoided.

By the way, all the pictures taken by you (which I've come across so far) are great! All the best, <KF> 09:34, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

:Kurt, thanks for the kind comment on my photo quality, I do only picture work and no writing (except the captions, of course). So I'm especially keen to get the placement, and appropriate article, correct.<br>
:I can't agree that 3 pics of the same hotel is OK because, since the hotel article is fairly short (and likely to remain so) no one can get in another hotel pic, which is a bit restrictive. So I'm asking if you will be kind to me and leave the Castle Combe pic on the Hotel article.<br>
:It wasn't deliberately placed in the See Also section, that positioning just happened to be a good spacing from the bottom of the last picture.<br>
:I'll get another pic of a hotel as soon as possible for the Star (classification) article.
:I hope my pic can stay on the Hotel article but should you want to revert to the arrangement you had I won't complain!<br>

:Hullo from Bristol, England!
:Yes, I understood from BAe at the time they gave me the pic (on a CD of Airbus pics) that GDFL was OK with them but I don't have that in writing. So go ahead and use the picture under GDFL.
:I went to the Finkenwerder aircraft factory way back in 1993 when it belonged (I think) to Deutsche Airbus. I was an aerodynamicist on Airbus and I went to what was called the A321 1g wing bend test when the wing of an Airbus A321 was bent up to full flight shape. I had to measure the fit of all the control surfaces. I remember a huge river just outside (the Elbe was it?)

You asked: Aerial view contrast improved (why don't contributors make simple improvements to their pics before adding?))

Well, for a start, programs to do that are quite expensive, or need to be downloaded, etc. And maybe the contributor was using a picture from an archive and wanted to present it as seen in its original form.

You've rather overdone the contrast, for my taste (and it is a matter of taste). The trees in Victoria park now look like lollipops...<br>
quota
:Quota, thanks for your comments. I accept that my remark was a little cruel and I won't make any more remarks of that sort again.
:OK :-)

:I don't agree the trees look odd, I've done plenty of flying, including light aircraft, and seen plenty such scenes so I know how an aerial view should look.<br>
:I certainly think my pic was a massive improvement, here they are side-by-side. If you truly prefer the dim one, then that's your right::

::No, I definitely prefer yours, over the dim one, no question. (As I said, it's a matter of taste on the whole.) I'm just saying that I think it is a bit too much on the contrasty side. I too, have done a lot of flying, including in light aircraft over the Royal Crescent (my grandfather lived in #1 before he died, and my wedding reception was in the hotel in the middle), so I know it well. To me (as a matter of preference, and perhaps poor memory) the high contrast doesn't match my recollections. It looks more like the sort of contrast one sees in low humidity, such as over Arizona. And not at all Somerset/Avon :-)) quota

Airbag age?
Hi, A, my condolences on the loss of the car that resulted in :Image:Car.airbag.600pix.jpg. Do you recall approximately the time interval between the crash and the photo? How long did the bag take to deflate? (I'm guessing the bag deflated in 3 seconds or less.) Lupin and I are working on the caption on airbag, and the extra information will surely help. (I'm watching the image description page for the changes.) Thanks! -- ke4roh 11:18, Sep 4, 2004 (UTC

:Hi Ke4roh, thanks for your questions. On the subject of deflation time have a look at thisURL:<br>
: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=airbag.htm&url=http://whyfiles.news.wisc.edu/032air_bag/how_work.html <br>
:where it says by 0.3 seconds after inflation, the bag is supposed to be empty.
:My 24 year old son John was the driver of the car, I was not with him. He crashed into the back of a Mercedes in a queue of traffic he was approaching because he thought the queue was moving. Actually it was stationary and he couldn&#8217;t stop! He said that deflation seemed instantaneous, it wasn&#8217;t seconds.
:The interval between the crash and the photo was one hour because I went to see the car (and take the photo) after the car had been towed to a garage. It&#8217;s a gloomy pic because I had to photograph through the window which wouldn&#8217;t wind down. By the way, John was not hurt in any way, Chassis distortion meant that the car was written off. Hi Adrian! Car pics again... ;-) I noticed you changed the Vauxhall Magnum pic and your comment was "greatly improved". Sadly, I don't find it so - it's far too contrasty and the colours flare on my monitor. I think this is a classic case of colour management gone awry across platforms - what might look fine on my monitor (or yours) may not be the same for everyone. In addition it grew in size by 40% or so. Not sure what the best thing here is, I just reverted for now.Graham 23:39, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hey Arpingstone:
Just wanted to say hi! Old friends are never forgotten.

Got myself a new satellite tv dish and now I can catch WAPA-TV from my natal Puerto Rico. Its a shame that today at the news they informed that a 28 year old pilot flying a single engine turbo crashed while flying from Eugenio Maria de Hostos Airport in Mayaguez to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan. According to the news report he was on a hobby flight (he just wanted to fly so he grabbed his plane and took off) and his shoes were found in the beach were the plane crashed.

Other than that, imagine, I hadnt seen Puerto Rican tv in 15 years and Im so happy to be able to! I also receive channels from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic and even Spain. We oredered the Latin American package so we get channels from almost every hispanic country. I had been seeing Mexico television for years already and still receive those channels too. And gues what??? I also receive BBC sports!!! Been watching a lot of good old English football lately!! And boxing and etc. And Discovery Wings, which means I can return to my favorite show, Airline, which is transmitted from London Heathrow!.

My sister is having a baby girl! And we have a new dog, a girl also. Shes seven weeks old, her name is Pebbles and she wakes me up every morning with love demonstrations!. We are so happy.

How are you and your family doing?

Well just to tell you, friends are never forgotten!

Write back ASAP!

Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.

(talk page stalker) Hello Sharad.
For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hullo, I am Adrian Pingstone. I have gone back through my photos and checked the date of the bus pic. Hello, this is Wastrel Way[edit]

Hello[edit]

Hi Adrian. We used to interact many many years ago here when I edited under a different name. I greatly value your contributions and I note you've been a bit quiet recently. Are you OK? I do hope so. With all good wishes DBaK (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian! Thanks for writing, Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 09:00, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg[edit]

Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". A larger view might help settle the argumemt, and we could recrop it to show the full designation. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 01:35, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian, nice to hear from you. I'm in good health and reached 80 years old in July (but no celebrations due to Mr (or Mrs) Virus). Nowadays I do very little on WP because the aircraft pages are mostly fully illustrated so I can use decreasingly few of my pictures. I do a little editing for grammar and style.
In answer to your question, unfortunately I have no copy of that picture and no information on it. I tried looking for that window gap on pictures of prototypes and flight test aircraft, but no luck.
Sorry I can’t help. I would have no objection to removal of the pic if the aircraft type remains uncertain. Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 18:29, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Over 2 years later the question has come up again. But I also found this photo of an A310-300 in the same livery, probably the same aircraft. It has the same window gap after the -300. I hope all is still well with you.

Larger macaw picture?[edit]

Hello! Would you happen to have a higher resolution / wider crop of commons:File:Parrot.red.macaw.1.arp.750pix.jpg? It would make for a nice desktop background. I know the photo is 16+ years old now, so it's probably a long shot. codl (talk) 19:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What a shame! In those far-off days I was stupid enough not to keep the larger resolution pic when I reduced them in size for WP. I don't remember why I used 750 pixels as my standard upload size. Nowadays of course I wouldn't do that! Thanks for writing, Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:02, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An edit from 2012[edit]

Hi Arpingstone - I/m confused by this edit of yours from 2012, where you seem to be overwriting an article about St. Anthony's School, Ranchi, Jharkand, by an article about Sacred Heart Convent School (Jamshedpur) - a different school in a totally different city.
I don't expect you to remember it, but can you throw any light on this? as the page history has not helped me - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 12:52, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately I am completely baffled by what has happened! It's really weird!!
