Hi Adrian
== Image:Paris.louvre.pyramid.750pix.jpg ==

I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy.
Hello ! Regarding the photograph [[:Image:Paris.louvre.pyramid.750pix.jpg]], I fear that things are a little bit more complicated that one would think intuitively. You can take the photograph, of course, but in French law the pyramid is considered a work of art whose author's rights belongs to the architect. Mr Pei actually already successfully sued people for such reasons. See the debate at [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Deletion_requests#Image:Paris_Louvre_Pyramid_Sunset.jpg]. Similar things happened regarding the illumination of the Eiffel Tower.
My email is ********.

This being said, stay assured that I deplore this particular law, and that I have a high appreciation for your contributions on Wikipedia. [[User:Rama|Rama]] 13:45, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

: To avoid problems consider a reupload under a different name without pyramid. Replace old image in articles with new one then mark old image for deletion. Maybe avoid the 750x (or similar) in image names, sometimes led to confusion. --[[User:Denniss|Denniss]] 18:55, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

::Thanks, Denniss, for your ideas. The pic in the [[Louvre Museum]] gallery called [[:Image:paris.louvre.pyramid.750pix.jpg]] has been replaced by [[:Image:louvre.courtyard.paris.arp.jpg]]. The picture has been sharpened, deslanted, upped from 750pix wide to 1800 pix wide and put to Commons. Any mention of the pyramid has been removed from the Image Description Page and the article picture caption. I have retained my PD copyright notice but would not object to a change to some other copyright notice.

::Should my rants under the old picture die when it is deleted or should the talk stuff be copied over to the new images IDP? I assume we don't want any mentions of the pyramid left around so I would like to see that stuff die with the picture. I have no idea of deletion procedures so can someone please do that for me?

::I notice there is a stub called [[Louvre Pyramid]] so I've changed the pic name there as well.

::Special thanks to Rama for tolerating my outbursts on this subject - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 20:42, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

== [[London Eye]] ==

Hi Adrian
My name is Helen and I work for Bosch in the UK. I would like to use your London.Eye.many.capsules picture. I would like to use it in a presentation about Bosch Rexroth, the company who produced all the drive hydraulics and suspension technology. The picture will be seen on a plasma screens in Heathrow airport. I have read the copyright blurb and it looks like there is no legal restriction on use. Since this is for use in a public arena, can you confirm that I can use this for Bosch, without being sued!!
Cheers

::::{{tps}} Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says {{tq|28 July 2008}} once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot ''absolutely'' be guaranteed accurate (Adrian ''might'' be a mad deceiver and ''might'' be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting ''might'' have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
::::For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? :Hi Helen! The good news is that any pic of mine (and I've got about 1500 of them on Wikipedia) labelled as Public Domain (which is most of them) is yours to modify ''in any way whatsoever'' to suit your presentation. You can show them in public, publish them, etc etc. and there's no possibility of legal come back because by declaring them Public Domain I have relinquished all rights. Theoretically you didn't even need to ask me but I'm glad that you did. I am flattered you wish to use my pics so thanks again. Hi Adrian - I understand that you uploaded this image. I regret to say I have just nominated it for deletion on ground that wikipedia is apparently not supposed to carry images restricted to non-commercial use. I notice that you changed the link on the Sea Vixen article page from "De Havilland Aviation Ltd" to "de Havilland..." (i.e. small 'd').
I've changed it back as I'm not happy about anyone changing the name of a company of which I am an executive director and, therefore, know precisely how the company is titled. <br>
If we choose to adopt a change of company title, now that we've taken over the company, then we will do so, and we will be the ones to notify any official changes of corporate name.<br>
In the meantime, De Havilland Aviation Ltd is spelt with a capital 'D'.<br>
Thank you.

::Unfortunately that incredible optical illusion is not mine, I found it an unknown place on the internet and (naughtily) used it without permission. So sorry I can't help and I have no idea who is the actual "owner" of the pic.
:There is absolutely no need to write so curtly. We have a happy community here at WP and your manner of writing is quite different to how anyone has written before (except for the weird person who wrote in all capitals further up this page). I worked for BAe for 36 years but had no connections with your De Havilland so I genuinely did not know "precisely how the company is titled". I thought it was de Havilland as of old (surely a very understandable mistake that many people must make!) How nice it would have been if your note had read like this - ''Adrian, I don't think you realised that the new DH company now uses a capital on the "de" part. I appreciate that you did not realise this in view of the old lack of capitalisation on the "de" but would very much appreciate it if you used the capital when writing about my company in the future, Thanks''. Hello,
:::That's all very noble and all that, but on an equal footing, would it not have been equally polite to have emailed first asking the correct syntax before just going in an abitrarily removing a valid reference and external link? Anyone can easily go in and just remove or change an entry, but a reason for such, or an editing note to the original author would be just as politically correct. Having gone through a great deal of negotiation and trademarking of company names and marks, it likewise grates somewhat to have changes made without prior consultation with the company that operates the actual aircraft.

I have written a post on Lynton & Lynmouth and about our visit to it on my blog. Soon I am going to publish a book using all these posts.
::::You are talking to the wrong person. I had absolutely nothing whatever to do with the removal of the De Havilland link and I agree with you that a note to you from Wangi explaining the intended removal would have been good. I'm glad to see the (entirely relevant) link is back. My only gripe with you was the tone of your message to me.

As you can see here - http://b-young-forever.blogspot.in/2017/04/lynton-lynmouth-devon-atozchallenge.html, I have used an image (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lynmouth.railway.arp.750pix.jpg) from your contribution on my blog, I need your consent to use the same in the final book.

Greetings from across the Atlantic! I see that you wrote the article on Tillandsia, and I thank you. I think this genus of plants is of interest to many people and there is much more to be said. I have done a bit of editing to the article and failed to upload a picture of one of my plants in bloom for a reason that I don't understand. I think there is much more to be done instead of repeating that "some of these plants live in the forest, some live in the desert, some are green and some are grey, some have thick leaves and the leaves of others are thinner" which is almost the way this article reads :-), and without sources. Some of it seems to be badly translated from German, and tried to fix that. If there is a general work on this genus of plants in English that I could obtain by inter-library loan I would like to know about it, if you know of it. Briefly, my background is in biology, zoology, then law and then computers and computer networks. I wrote the article [[Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas]] a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. :: Hi from Adrian! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have been quiet for some years now. I mainly worked on inserting aircraft pictures and on editing grammatical errors (my greatest hate is use of the word “current”). However, most aircraft articles are now fully illustrated so I found I could use very few of my aircraft pics, and I have no interest in just adding them into the huge collection on Commons. I grew tired of editing grammatical errors, so have stopped all contributions but could come back one day. I do have a session of adding pictures after each Fairford Air Show so I will always add something each year. == Picture caption in [[Hotel]] ==

I feel rather sheepish leaving a note about (or doing, for that matter) a one-word revert, but I think the original picture caption is the right one, since the hotel (and head office of the chain) are in the US, the US word "upscale" should be used rather than "upmarket", which is a Britishism not used in the US. Needless to say I don't go around in general changing UK usage or spelling to US usage or spelling, or vice versa, but my understanding is that the consensus is to use UK usage/spelling in articles or references to the UK and US usage/spelling in articles or references to the US. ==Grob picture==
Adrian, I agree that there is a need for more pictures in the [[Glider]] article but another picture of the same type of aircraft doesn't illustrate anything extra. I think the Falke picture is clearer and as a mid-air shot, it is more interesting. (I didn't take it incidentally.) It may be better to show an open class or a world class glider because these could illustrate differences between glider classes. There is an article on [[Touring Motor Glider]]s where the differences between a Falke and a Grob might be discussed and illustrated with picures. I hope you agree. [[User:Jmcc150|JMcC]] 18:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
:No, I don't agree at all. In my view if an article has plenty of remaining space for pictures then it is good to provide them, even if they are a little the same. Visually the Grob has no resemblance at all to the Falke so the reader looking for a pic might want to look at the Falke or might want to look at the Grob. Is it for us to decide that! WP is not only text but also a picture source for our readers so, if they don't like a particular pic or it doesn't suit their purpose then they can choose another. At least they have the choice. So I would be very unhappy if you took my pic away (I have nil connection with the glider world, by the way). I think the problem here lies in that I'm thinking of the readers pleasure and choice and you're thinking technically ie we should not repeat a glider type in the pictures. If you do take it away I won't revert, life's too short to play the reversion game. Best Wishes - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 09:45, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

== Olympus cameras and Albury Railway station picture ==
Thanks for your comments about my picture. I feel very nervous about exposing myself to this sort of process but I did think it showed what Italianate architecture was about. I notice from your user page you too have an Olympus camera. Mine is a C740UZ - yours is presumably a slightly later model in the same series. We bought ours in 2003 - I find the 10* zoom brilliant and the AA batteries very useful - when you are in Condobolin (the middle of New South Wales) and you forgot to recharge the night before and want to click away the next day - any garage will supply the necessaries!:-) Regards--[[User:AYArktos|A Y Arktos]] 20:39, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

:Thanks for writing, I very much liked your picture (don't be nervous, it's all for fun!). I've noticed that pictures don't usually succeeed at becoming Featured if they show only part of a building, however yours illustrates its article beautifully.<br>
:My camera is an Olympus C750UZ, I don't know the differences to yours. I too love the 10 times zoom because I especially enjoy aircraft photography so it's essential for that but I would like a faster shutter speed than my max of one thousandth of a second.<br>
:The AA batteries are a great feature, they are cheap here (about 12 English pounds (22 Australian dollars)for a pack of 4) and very easily available of course. I use rechargeables but keep a pack of ordinary AA in case they run out. I get at least 500 pics before the batteries run out and yesterday I took 200 flash pictures in Bristol Museum and still the batteries were OK! I use a 512K Xd card (£22English, 50 Australian Dollars, ordered off the internet) which gives me 520 pics at the quality I use (which is high quality JPG at 2288 by 1712 pixels). I've illustrated around 450 of the aircraft/airline/airliner articles, mostly with the C750. Best Wishes - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 09:39, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

You seem to have added several pics to the [[Bristol Zoo]] page. I've added a few more that I took today, not as good as yours - could you take a look & see if you think they are good enough to stay or should be deleted?

Also I see you are near Bristol - could you take a look at the [[Chew Valley Lake]] page which I've put up for featured article candidate & if you had any pics to add to that or others in the [[Chew Valley]] I'd be really grateful. [[User:Rodw|Rod]] 20:23, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

:I've looked at your zoo pics and (assuming you want me to be absolutely honest) only two of them are OK to stay. The OK ones are the Stag Beetles (although it needs lightening and the format changed so that the pole on the left is gone). The flamingo pic is a good one. The Asiatic lion pic is way too dim, the Red panda is too distant (have you a zoom on your camera, I've got times 10), the pygmy hippo is too distant as well. I'll upload my Lion, Panda and Hippo, put them on the gallery and then you will better understand why your pics are not really up to WP standard (yet!) Thanks for uploading '''[[:Image:Anemone.bristol.750pix.jpg]]'''. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the [[copyright]] status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
Dear Adrian, I have just seen your userpage edit and am wondering if urgent congrats are called for? If so please consider it done, and a certain song sung or played at you too. If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{tl|GFDL-self}} to release it under the [[GFDL]]. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read [[Wikipedia:Fair use|fair use]], and then use a tag such as {{tlp|fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use]]. See [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags]] for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

::I was under the impression that I didn't need their permission. Because the photographers released their work under a Creative Commons License, they agree to allow their work to be used and shared, sometimes even for commercial purposes without anybody needing to get their permission. I have, however, stated the photographers names and chosen the correct Creative Commons License for each piece, (I was also under the impression that I had to state EITHER the authour OR the url, which I've done). Should I do anything else to ensure these LEGAL images are not deleted, or are they o.k ? [[User:Jaw101ie|Jaw101ie]] 12:35, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

:::Hi, I didn't mean you had to get direct permission from the photographer, I was using the word permission loosely, to mean the License. Even so I repeat that it's impossible for me to know if you have interpreted the license conditions correctly because I don't have the URLs to check the photographers requirements for myself. In any case, I don't have time to do that check.

:::Even worse I know nothing about Licenses because all my pics are off my own camera so they are simply Public Domain which is the simplest of all licenses (in fact, it's no license at all!).

:::You definitely should give the URL so that other Wikipedians can check the License allows WP to use the pic. The photographers name is not sufficient because tracking down your pic on the internet would be difficult or impossible from only the name. I hope something of this helps a little - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 19:31, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

== Ford Cortina picture ==

Hi Adrian.Im trying to write a message to yourself.I know this is probably the wrong place to write it but i cant find anywhere else.I beleive i need training on wp (lol).Just wanted to congratulate you on the stunning picture of the cortina crusader but then realised i couldnt find a place to write.Ill leave my e-mail adress for wp training lessons (lol).If you could delete this and then replace it in the correct section it would be apreciated.And any help on how to carry this out would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou. Steve Johnson (jlexv8 AT msn DOT com)

:Hi Steve, welcome to Wikipedia! You put your message in exactly the right place (my personal Talk Page). One hint: don't give your email address on WP, spam programs could collect that address and you might get a flood of rubbish emails for ever more. Notice I've changed . to DOT (and @ to AT), spam harvesters then can't read your address but people can. It's better to not give your address at all and do any conversation on personal Talk Pages or on the article's Talk Page (every article has one).

:Thanks for your nice comments on my [[Ford Cortina]] pic which I presume is [[:Image:Cortina.mk4.750pix.jpg]]. If you go into Edit on this message you will see that if double square brackets are put around a WP article name (like this: <nowiki>[[Ford Cortina]])</nowiki> then it becomes a blue link. Similarly a pic can be linked to by typing <nowiki>[[:image:Cortina.mk4.750pix.jpg]]</nowiki>. That means you you can click on the blue link and go straight to that article or picture. Try it, just click on that blue-coloured cortina.mk4.759pix.jpg above and you'll see. Get back here with the Backspace key on your keyboard.

:Finally, if you register a username with WP then you could have added your username and the time and day by simply typing four tildes (that wavy symbol, which on my keyboard is above the Hash key). Unfortunately, no time for any more WP lessons, I'm too busy adding pics to WP (about 1500 so far , since January 2003) Best Wishes, Adrian - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 09:33, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

==Your user name==
Hello. I hope you don't think me impertinent, but I am curious. Since you reveal your real name Adrian Pingstone on your messages anyway, what was the purpose of creating the different user name "Arpingstone"? Cheers [[User:JackofOz|JackofOz]] 01:06, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

:Your question is welcome! I agree it seems odd but the answer is simple. My username is indeed Arpingstone. I used that for a while when signing Talk stuff then I thought that it would be much friendlier if my proper name appeared when I type the four tildes (it seemed nicer if people knew I was Adrian). So I have put Adrian Pingstone in my Prefs to make it appear (instead of Arpingstone) when I sign something. (Did you know you could do that?) Incidentally, the surname is a corruption of a town name in Derbyshire, here in England, called Pinxton. Pinxton has been slowly corrupted to Pingstone since 1350 AD when the town name was first recorded as a surname. Best - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 09:08, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

My name is Fernanda Viégas and I have been studying Wikipedia for a while now (you can see a paper I published on the subject [http://alumni.media.mit.edu/~fviegas/papers/history_flow.pdf here]). I would like to ask you a few questions about your activities as a Wikipedia photographer. ==[[Romanians]]==

Hello Mr. Pingstone. I'm contacting you because you're my last chance. I will begin with the beggining. On the article about [[Romanians]], we (many of the Romanian users) had a negotiation in month of January, you can look on the talk page, when we decided to leave the article like that: we put the official figures of the Romanian diaspora and we add and estimation, surely with the source. All was Ok, until in late March the [[user:Jayig]] came there and began big modifications, that of course were not true. When I tried to revert his edits to the original version, I was blocked by the administrator [[user:SlimVirgin]] for "vandalism", although I was just reverting the true there. Jayig received the sources of our figures, but when he saw that there're true, he deleted all of them, including those of USA, Canada, Italy and Spain. Now I can't write the estimations because I don't have the sources of my informations, 'cause Jayig removed them. He puted there impossible figures from his sites, and do not listen to what the other says, it's good just what he writes. Please find time and solve this problem, because the entire firgures are just lies.
Thank you a lot ! Regards, [[user:NorbertArthur|NorbertArthur]] 2 April 2006

== Don't be stupid ==

It's very terrible how you make worse the articles created by many users.
You always have to look at each article if all the pictures are copyrighted.
Come on. Don't play the copyright guard.
Do you know that you are very selfish. You come with some stupid excuses that a
picture is not copyrighted (sometimes you are right) but then you take the opportunity making an
article worse. I'm not speaking for myself. I'm speaking for the rights of
every user. Do you know that it´s our passion to improve articles day for day.
Do you know that it's very difficult making an own picture for example
like for a plane. So it's correctly if everybody uses the internet
to get some pictures although the majority of this pictures are not copyrighted.
So I recommend you Pingstone.
SHUT UP!!!
:You should learn a "little" about [[copyright]]. If you are able to read and understand then upload free images or leave wikipedia. Constantly uploading images stolen from other websites and claiming authorship will result in a ban. --[[User:Denniss|Denniss]] 12:57, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

::Dear Youssef90, thank you for your interesting contribution to my User Talk. It is also my passion to "improve articles day by day". However some methods of improving articles are acceptable to Wikipedia and some are not. If we use Airliners.net copyright pictures then it is possible that Wikipedia could be brought to the Courts and fined for violating copyright law. So you must understand that Copyright pics CANNOT be stolen from their owners (who are the original photographers) and put on to WP with a false Public Domain statement. I assume you are an intelligent person in which case you will understand what I am saying. Your contributions are valued by WP but they must be within the rules of WP. Please note that I have NEVER removed a pic that is legally on WP, please let me know if you can find one.(Denniss, thank you for your support) Best Wishes - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 17:15, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. I forgot to tell you that your picture made me feel like I should learn some Photoshop skills, to learn something new and as a way to relax creating such cool images. :) So, I started looking for Photoshop material on the web and I found some amazing websites. This is the one that impressed me the most: http://www.worth1000.com.
If you don't know it yet, what I can tell about this website so far is that it has a huge database of all kinds of Photoshop modified pictures, looks like we don't have to pay to register (but I didn't do it anyway) and, despite all the pictures might be copyrighted, they still allow us to see them on the screen in good size, as it might be a great souce of inspiration and amusement. Enjoy! E. Cortez.

== Giving credit ==

Hello Arpingstone,

I just downloaded a copy of your insect in [[amber]] pic, intending to use it on a page of mine. I thought I should give you at least a link for it or a "photo by Arpingstone"-text, so I wonder if you have a favourite solution for this kind of situation. (As I understand it I don't have to, but it seems like the nicest thing to do (or at least A nice thing to do :) ).)
Thanks,

:Thanks for thinking to give me credit on your page. You are right, you don't have to give credit for a public domain photo but it's a nice thing to do. == Please be more careful ==

'Improving style' is all very well and good, but removing stuff is more dangerous and/or marking it as a 'joke' ([[Avro Vulcan]]); when multiple sources all say it did in fact occur is *not*. I also had reason to be concerned about some of the edits you made to the concorde entry (2/3 were fine though). Accuracy is pretty important, if really you don't care about accuracy you shouldn't be contributing to the wikipedia at all. Some of your style edits seem to change the meaning of what is written. Sometimes that makes no difference, but some of them seem pretty dubious to me. For example you edited the Salcombe entry to remove the reference to ice cream. AFAIK that is one of the things that [[Salcombe]] is particularly known for, so I'm unclear you've improved the piece; you've just deleted stuff from an already short article. Is that really any better? It seems to me you've made the article significantly worse.<br>
Just be more careful OK?[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 20:45, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

:Hi from Adrian. Thanks for your interesting message with which I very strongly disagree so here are my comments (at length because such an unpleasant talk entry must be answered properly):

:1. In the [[Avro Vulcan]] article, under the Malta accident entry, I was absolutely correct to remove the line ''“Vincenza Zammitt, 48, who was shopping in a street……”'' It’s just padding in an article about the Avro Vulcan. But wasn’t it a bit trivial to write to me about it? Here’s the entry in full so that others may judge:

:''* On [[14 October]] [[1975]] Vulcan B.2 XM645 of No.9 Squadron RAF Waddington lost its right undercarriage when it attempted to land at [[Luqa]] airport in [[Malta]]. The pilot decided to do a circuit to crash land on runway 24 after it was covered with fire prevention foam. As the aircraft was turning inbound for the landing, it exploded in mid-air over [[Zabbar]] village, killing 5 of its 7 crew members. Large pieces of the aircraft fell on the village, but with very low casualties&mdash;one woman (Vincenza Zammit, 48), who was shopping in a street was hit by an electric cable and was killed instantly, and some 20 others were injured slightly. Only the pilot and co-pilot escaped death by using their ejector seats (provided only for them).''

:2. Next here is the piece, in [[Avro Vulcan]], about the photographer strapped to the plane :
*''Testing the brakes of the Vulcan included strapping the company photographer Paul Culerne to the front landing gear and doing an emergency stop.''<br>
:Quite rightly I completely deleted that because it had no reference. Here is the same entry now:

::No. That's very, very wrong. Few things in the wikipedia are referenced. The name of the company photographer was included, and you could have easily done a web search on it; you would have found it in several places. If you simply go around deleting stuff simply because it's not referenced the wikipedia will be practically empty. As your comment stated you just ''assumed'' (wrongly) that '''it was a joke''' and deleted it. You didn't check back through the history to find when it was inserted, you just deleted it. You made no attempt to google on it to check it's veracity, you just deleted it. There is no excuse for that ''vandalism''. That is completely unacceptable.[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:''*Testing the brakes of the Vulcan included strapping the company photographer Paul Culerne to the front landing gear and doing an emergency stop.<ref>http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/vulcan/history.html</ref>''

:What has changed? See the difference? You have added a reference. Had you done that before I would not have deleted it!

::I am very not impressed.[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:3. On the [[Concorde]] changes I made, you give no examples so I have no comment. However you might like to know that I worked on Concorde at Filton for 12 years, went on 5 test flights of Concorde and was a Senior Aerodynamicist. So there’s just a chance that I know what I’m talking about.

::Since you didn't actually add any aerodynamic information to the article that I could see, you actually subtracted information from the article, I see no particular reason to be impressed. I'd possibly have been impressed if you had added something.[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:4. On [[Salcombe]] I think you show that it is you who can’t edit. No experienced editor would leave this nonsense in place:

:''The Town''=
:''Salcombe is a classic seaside town, with some very good icecream, it has the second highest property prices (after [[Sandbanks, Poole]]) outside of central London in the UK.''

::It's a stub! Stubs have incomplete information in them otherwise they wouldn't be stub. You've actually made the stub even stubbier! What on earth were you thinking????[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:This is a serious encyclopedia and the line about the icecream should not be there. What icecream, who makes it, why is Salcombe famous for it? Does it exist nowhere else? Then it might be OK to leave in.

::Look it up and add it! Or leave it alone. It's a stub. Somebody who lives in the town may add it. If you remove it, they may not think to add it back in. They've got a high quality ice cream maker in the town that distributes to most of the southwest or something.[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:I hope you can see now that your comments about me are wrong. I will continue to edit WP as I have been doing since January of 2003 - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 11:49, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

::Joy.[[User:Wolfkeeper|WolfKeeper]] 12:39, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

:::I've read your replies above and would like to comment further:<br>
:::FIRST, COMMENTS ON [[Salcombe]]:

:::''AFAIK that is one of the things that [[Salcombe]] is particularly known for.''<br>
:::“As Far As I Know” means you’re guessing (WP does not do guessing).!!

:::''They've got a high quality ice cream maker in the town that distributes to most of the southwest '''or something''' '' (the bold is mine)
:::So you’ve no idea about this “famous” icecream!

:::''It's a stub! Stubs have incomplete information in them otherwise they wouldn't be stub. You've actually made the stub even stubbier! What on earth were you thinking????'' <br>
:::I was thinking how peculiar it must sound to a reader in, say, New York, that Salcombe has a wonderful ice cream factory but with no further information. We can't just leave it there, no one may add to the sentence for years. Meanwhile it makes the article look amateur. Also I was thinking that if a stub has a bad or unsubstantiated piece of info in it, does that mean we leave it there so that the stub does not get stubbier. No, we don’t, we want a good encyclopedia ''now''.

:::SECOND, COMMENTS ON [[Concorde]]:

:::''Since you didn't actually add any aerodynamic information to the [[Concorde]] article that I could see, you actually subtracted information from the article, I see no particular reason to be impressed. I'd possibly have been impressed if you had added something.''
:::Silly argument! Firstly I was trying to impress no-one and, secondly, you know perfectly well that I was ''editing'' for poor English and had ''no'' intention of adding anything to it.

:::I notice you have reverted most of my carefully thought out improvements to the Concorde article and returned to poorly phrased sentences. That’s sad! That’s all I have to say, this terminates my side of the discussion.
:::Best Wishes - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 16:14, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

::::I'm sorry that this narrow-minded character is causing so much upset to your valuable edits. Your undoubted expertise is just as valuable when you trim or rewrite an article as it is when you add to it. Sorry about the captions to the photos - this was an accident on my part. I see you removed the phrase "fell apart" and changed to "not a success" on the Uruguay built pickup truck. I am reliably assured that "fell apart" is exactly what these vehicles did, the conversion did not properly take account of the fact that the vehicle originally had a prestressed roof to add rigidity. The pickup trucks quite literally snapped and collapsed (which is a shame really because I thought they looked cute!). Do you think we could change the wording to more accurately reflect the problem with the vehicles? Regards. [[User:Colin99|Colin99]] 23:47, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

:I only changed it because, in an encyclopedia, we can't always use the sort of of language we would use in talking to each other directly (like "it fell apart"). Just out of sheer curiosity, after you removed it from the SAA article &mdash; is a cracked windscreen that common to not be an 'incident'? I'd have imagined otherwise, or are the fail-safes good enough? Thanks, [[User:Dewet|dewet]]|[[User_talk:Dewet|✉]] 15:46, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

:Hi! I removed it simply because a cracked windscreen is not important enought to feature ''in an encyclopedia''. I'm not saying it's unimportant to the airline or the passengers, I'm only saying we need not feature such incidents in WP. I would guess every airline has had such things happen so we'd have a cracked windsereen or a burst tyre entry for every airline. We keep the Incidents heading for much more serious stuff. Thanks for asking - [[User:Arpingstone|Adrian Pingstone]] 15:52, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

:: I have no problem with the removal; as I said this was for my own curiousity. You seem knowledgeable about the airline industry, which is why I posed my question to you. I was just wondering whether it is actually just trivial, or indeed a common serious occurence? The same for burst tyres. [[User:Dewet|dewet]]|[[User_talk:Dewet|✉]] 15:55, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

==Diyarbakir==
A recent user edit on the [[Diyarbakir]] page removed most of the pictures that had been there and replaced them with new ones. I don't think some of the new ones are of the same quality as the old ones (some are low quality scans) but don't want to "be bold" as I uploaded most of the earlier ones and may be biased. Your Solomon's judgement would be appreciated. ==Advice==
Hi, hoping you can offer some advice. I puchased (from an aviation collector's estate) an original black and white photo of a [[Miles Whitney Straight]], which I thought would be good to illustrate both that article, and the history of [[Aerial Topdressing]]. The problem is potential copyright. On the back is the stamp of Whites Aviation, (but no assertion of copyright). Whites aviation is a firm which came into existence after the (apparently pre war) photo appears to have been taken. Leo White was airplane buff and used to collect photos himself, and the estate included several hundred of his photos. I contacted the successor firm, sending a copy of the photo, and asking them if they owned copyright. Twice. 6 months ago. I have heard nothing back.

Would I be safe to put the image on Wikipedia?[[User:Winstonwolfe|Winstonwolfe]] 00:25, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Adrian

I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy. My email is ********. Cheers Jonathan--122.56.234.66 (talk) 02:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC) 122.56.234.66 (talk) 02:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_bus_in_bath_england_arp.jpg 223.233.78.185 (talk) 05:32, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says 28 July 2008 once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot absolutely be guaranteed accurate (Adrian might be a mad deceiver and might be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting might have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hullo, I am Adrian Pingstone. I have gone back through my photos and checked the date of the bus pic. Hello, this is Wastrel Way[edit]

I wrote the article Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. Hello[edit]

Hi Adrian. We used to interact many many years ago here when I edited under a different name. I greatly value your contributions and I note you've been a bit quiet recently. Are you OK? I do hope so. With all good wishes DBaK (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian! Thanks for writing, Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 09:00, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:01, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Using Picture of Kelvin Wake for the textbook Gerthsen Physik (in german language)[edit]

Dear Mr. Pingstone,

I would like to use your picture (Kelvin wakes on Avon) for an example discussion of water waves in the german language textbook Gerthsen Physik. I am the editor of the book.

I understand that we could simply go ahead according to the licences announced on Wikipedia. Nevertheless I would prefer to have your personal consent.

I was trying to find an email with no success. If you send me a note at "meschede AT uni-bonn DOT (followed by a D and an E)" I could send you the section of the manuscript.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
