Hi Adrian
usertalkheader

I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy.
PLEASE PUT YOUR POST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, NOT AT THE TOP. THANKS.

:::Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.
:::https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_bus_in_bath_england_arp.jpg 223.233.78.185 (talk) 05:32, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
::::tps Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says 28 July 2008 once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot absolutely be guaranteed accurate (Adrian might be a mad deceiver and might be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting might have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
::::For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

:Hi! Welcome to the wonderful world of Wikipedia. First, an apology - had I realised you were a new editor I would have phrased my Edit Summary much more gently (I've been editing since 2002). I'm pleased you understood so well the reasons for the removal and that you wrote to me in such a nice way about it. Thanks!

:Because there are so many (too many) pictures of Coots on that article, only first class pictures should now be added (and at least one poor one taken away at the same time, in my opinion). Huge Galleries are not Wikipedia policy. One day an editor might take away the lot and just leave those embedded in the article, I’m surprised that hasn‘t happened yet (I‘m not bold enough to do it!).

Hello! I am working on the article Hypericum. The image of :Image:Hypericum.flower.750pix.jpg has many questions surrounding it and I would like to get in touch with you about it rather than simply remove it from the article. :I have several thousand pictures on Wikipedia (I`ve lost count), mostly civil and military aircraft. The aircraft pictures are taken with a low-price D50 Nikon DSLR with a x10 telephoto lens but when I can't be bothered to carry the weight, like on holiday, I use a Canon A720IS compact. (As an aside you'll notice that I've Wikilinked the article name (two square brackets each side) so that I could go to it to remind myself what it looked like). ==University of Peradeniya==
Hello
Do you know the history of Peredeniya University? I don't think so. Please do your edits which do not accept with the wikipedia format, but not the details. Please change the details very carefully. Thank you very much.

:Hi!! The reader should go to this URL to see the reversion that User:Ebaran has done :
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=University_of_Peradeniya&diff=308120574&oldid=307215866<br>

:You have reverted every one of my 60-odd edits to the article. I’ll give here only a few examples of why I edited that article so heavily:<br>
:- I removed “and offers a wide variety of facilities and resources“ because it tells the reader precisely nothing about the university.<br>
:- I changed constant use of “the University ………” to “the university…….“ (lower case is used in that context).<br>
:- padding words like “various”, “general”, “numerous” and "currently" were removed because removal of them made no change whatever to the sense of the sentences they were in.<br>
:- use of “&” is not OK in an encyclopedia.<br>
:- unsourced self-praise was scattered throughout the article: Example 1: “in spite of having to contend with many difficulties similar to those experienced by the universities of other developing countries, the Faculty provides and academic environment of the highest quality and has maintained a gratifying record of teaching, research, and public service“ is not acceptable in a neutral encyclopedia. Example 2: “Peradeniya University is the only residential university in the country paving way to a wide range of community activities to complement the academic activities“ is unsourced self-praise.<br>
:- many edits for strange sentence construction and wrong use of capitals.<br>
:- and many more faults<br>

:It is quite obvious that English is not your first language so if someone comes along and corrects you then please accept the corrections gracefully (I am English and live in England, so I have a good grasp of English!!<br>
:Added note: I have just seen the single line that forms your User Page (at User:Ebaran), it says this - My vision is "Try to make a Advance and meaningful article with you best". :Thanks for writing, it's always interesting to hear that one of the several thousand pics I have on Wikipedia gives pleasure. You are talking about the lead picture on the A380 article. Yes, the metadata is all correct, I took it on October 18th 2009 at 12 noon, from a park among houses on the approach to runway 23R. My camera is a Nikon D50 DSLR set at 200 ISO, 1/500th second at f9, focal length used was 70mm. The aircraft was A6-EDB from Dubai International Airport. ==Removal of technical problem on IBERIA flight==
You removed my editing on the IBERIA flight, on Iberia airline wiki.

*On 9 November 2009, the Iberia Airbus A321-200 flight en route from Tenerife to Madrid returned to the airport after one of the Airbus engines was shut down (cf. http://airflightdisaster.com/?p=6602 )

I know somebody who was on the plane and first they landed a first time because of a problem, on the second take-off apparently the motor was on fire, is it a too minor incident according to you?
The report I found seemed to me a bit mild. I think we should be careful that companies are not downplaying such incident which appears to me and probably to all passenger in that flight very worrisome. Geneva, 6:07 am, Nov. 13 2009

:Note that new contributions to my Talk Page go at the bottom of this page as you can see from the dates of each message and from the message I put at the top (so I have moved it to here). I'm afraid "knowing somebody who was on that plane" is not the kind of evidence that can be used in an encyclopedia. Your statement that "apparently the motor was on fire" is therefore not useful unless documented by a reliable source so your question "was that a minor incident?" is irrelevant. The articles on airlines cannot be flooded with every incident so experienced editors like myself (23,000 edits since 2003) make a judgement on each added incident and many, like yours, have to be removed. Thanks for contributing, Best Wishes, - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 09:22, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

::If I agree a reference is important, the testimony of a distinguished colleague scientist who was in the plane and told me he saw flames from the engine appears to me very reliable, I think this is serious enough. Then the work should be done to find if there is a sufficiently detailed account on this incident, at my surprise I found little. We can imagine that large airlines companies tend to diminish this problems, we should be therefore vigilant and use internet as a free speech system. I am afraid to say that is not because you do many edits that they are correct or at the right level, this is for me an argument of authority which is not very acceptable. If you want to have a more detailed account of the incident (in spanish): http://www.laopinion.es/sucesos/2009/11/10/avion-iberia-vuelve-aeropuerto-fallar-motor/254212.html . Cambridge UK, 5:23 pm, Nov. 13 2009

::: Thanks for your reply. Extensive editing certainly does make me aware of what is OK on WP and what is not (it would be strange if it didn't). My experience tells me that your comment that "the testimony of a distinguished colleague scientist who was in the plane and told me he saw flames from the engine appears to me very reliable" is absolutely no use whatever as a source. It has to be published, not spoken! Nor are refs in Spanish of use to WP, this is the English WP and they must (with rare exceptions that do not apply here) be in English. Finally, this is an encyclopedia and we can't use it, as you suggest, as a "free speech system". I've looked at the airflightdisaster link you gave which confirms this item is not encyclopedic and exactly the same policies are followed over such incidents on all airline articles. Sorry to seem so negative over all this but I don't set WP procedures and policies, I just follow them! I have a huge model aircraft, trucks, boats, trains and car collection these days, as well as toy buildings and small toy people. With that, I am making a toy city layout like the ones you see on toy train websites. Many British companies are represented in it, like the airlines obviusly but also Castle Cement and Little Chef among others.

I see you personally saw a Singapore Airlines A380!! I envy you!! This year in aviation has not been very fun for me, but I did see a Qatar Airways A340 in person as well as the Qatar Amiri Flight's Boeing 747 when it came to Phoenix. Last year, I finally got a taste of American Airlines' service, when I flew from Phoenix to Dallas to Puerto Rico and back. It was excellent! At that trip I got to see planes of Eva Air Cargo, China Airlines Cargo, KLM, Martinair Cargo, Cape Air and Four Star Cargo in person for the first time in my life. I also flew a DC-9 type for the first time ever and had my first flight piloted by a woman pilot. Also, the Four Star planes were DC-3!!

I have a brand new nephew, John, he's about 23 days old now. Hehe!

So how are things on your side??

Take care, God bless and hope to hear from you soon!!

Your friend always,

:Hi from Adrian, nice to hear from you! I'm still very active on WP, partly on adding photos (about 2000 so far, usually military and airliners) and on editing anything I come across. At the moment I'm working on Singapore school articles because, not surprisingly, the English phrasing used is often poor so each article there could need many dozens of edits. I edit every day for about three hours because I'm retired from British Aerospace. I'm 70 years old next July but certainly don't feel that age!

:Yes, I've seen Qantas, Emirates and Singapore A380s arriving at and leaving from Heathrow. Very luckily I live only 100 miles (160km) from LHR so I go up there about six times a year. The A380 is strangely undramatic (even at takeoff), very quiet and not that impressive in the air because it looks "fat".

:I don't fly much, the last time was two years ago on an EasyJet Airbus A319 from Bristol to Rome (Italy). Next year, we are flying to Majorca (in the Mediterranean), again by Easyjet. I remain happily married to Barbara. Our two sons left home last year (hooray!!), one is a National Health Service Assistant Purchasing Manager and the other is a Government Planning Oficer, both work here in the city of Bristol. They are both engaged to be married so they are doing great.
:Great to hear from you,<br>

Adrian, I will always remember that you and Mav, were the first ones to welcome me in Wikipedia some years ago when my son Antonio introduced me here. It has been a long time, but thanks to Wikipedia I have received many recognitions for my writting including a tribute and official Puerto Rican Government resolution recognizing me as one of their notable historians. It has been incredible and I have people such as you to thank because your warm welcome here made the begining of my experience here a pleasant one.

:Thanks for your thanks, much appreciated. When I edit I'm only looking for phrasing, misuse of capitals, spelling, grammar, and that sort of stuff. Hi. Thanks for your courteous note about undoing your own undoings when you noticed I was right! And apologies for having edited anonymously - I didn't notice I hadn't logged in. I had been contacted by a very old (in the sense of longtime) friend who knew Ms Cook intimately for many years, and who pointed out the inexplicable error in her name at birth, and asked if I knew how to amend it, so I did.
In return, I pointed out the two "citation needed" tags, and my friend will try to locate a source for these and let me know. If she is successful, I'll edit these too - although she says both statements are perfectly correct, they merely need sourcing.
Best wishes - Geoffrey

Hi Adrian,

I was just curious about where exactly you took this photo from. I've been thinking of taking a high resolution photo of the dome for a little while, but from taking the DLR regularly, I can see that most of the Thames shoreline is industrial and I'm not sure if it is possible to get a clear view of it from there. Did you take it from a boat, or is there a vantage point that I wasn't aware of? :You guessed right. I took the picture on a river trip from Westminster Pier to the Thames Barrier while on holiday in London (I live in Bristol). This is a most fruitful journey photographically because of the unencumbered views of shoreline stuff such as the Dome. We are having a discussion at the aircraft project (Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#Commons_Categories)about the category system on commons, re-moving the type categories and adding registration categories is causing a bit of a pain when searching for images. Hi, Stahlkocher states that you have taken this photo and uploaded it into the public domain. There is no record of transfer, rendering it unverifiable (see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Sutton Wick air crash/archive1). :Yes, I took the picture with my own camera and I have released it into the Public Domain. P== 1939 Armstrong-Siddeley 16HP car seen at Kemble Air Show, Kemble, Gloucestershire, England ==

Hi,

I was just browsing for pictures of Armstrong Siddeley 16HP cars and found your image. This car was restored largely by my father for a family friend a few years ago. It is actually a ZB batch Armstrong Siddeley 16HP that has been converted by Tickford. The hood mechanism is operated by inserting a handle into the access point above the rear NS wing (just visible) and is the only one in existence. The car was bought from a collector in Blackpool and was originally fawn in colour, to match the interior. It was in largely good condition having been dry stored for many many years (possibly 1960's if I remember correctly) and had covered very little mileage. My father performed a strip-down of the bodywork and recommissioned most components although a new rear axle had to be sourced. The hood was replaced by Tickford for the one shown in your image.
I have several pictures of when the car was delivered and seeing your image brought back several memories. The car was sold soon after it was finished and made the move down south. I have no idea where it is now but I hope the current owner is enjoying it.

Hello - I have a question about a word used on the article KJAK. There is a sentence which starts out: "The station had desensing problems". == Hello, this is Wastrel Way ==

Greetings from across the Atlantic! I see that you wrote the article on Tillandsia, and I thank you. I think this genus of plants is of interest to many people and there is much more to be said. I have done a bit of editing to the article and failed to upload a picture of one of my plants in bloom for a reason that I don't understand. I think there is much more to be done instead of repeating that "some of these plants live in the forest, some live in the desert, some are green and some are grey, some have thick leaves and the leaves of others are thinner" which is almost the way this article reads :-), and without sources. Some of it seems to be badly translated from German, and tried to fix that. If there is a general work on this genus of plants in English that I could obtain by inter-library loan I would like to know about it, if you know of it. Briefly, my background is in biology, zoology, then law and then computers and computer networks. I wrote the article Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. :: Hi from Adrian! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have been quiet for some years now. I mainly worked on inserting aircraft pictures and on editing grammatical errors (my greatest hate is use of the word “current”). However, most aircraft articles are now fully illustrated so I found I could use very few of my aircraft pics, and I have no interest in just adding them into the huge collection on Commons. I grew tired of editing grammatical errors, so have stopped all contributions but could come back one day. == Robin Klein ==

Hi Adrian
Just regarding your recent edit of the Robin Klein article, where you removed the words "well-known" with the comment "She's not well-known to me!". Is there another reason, related to Wiki-preferred style or something, for removing those words other than your own lack of familiarity with the subject of the article? Because I don't understand why a 70 year old non-Australian without a background in education, children's literature or Australia would consider his own lack of familiarity with an Australian author of children's books to be indicative of how well-known (or not) she is. Her bibliography of over forty books, her awards, and the adaptations of her books for plays, television and film would seem to be a better indication of how well-known she actually is. Eliahna (talk) 20:39, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
:Eliahna, I apologise. My Edit Comment was way too flippant. What I meant was that "well known" is not a phrase that should be used because everyone in Wikipedia is well known to some degree or they would not be allowed to have an article. My Edit Comment was clumsily saying that but the Edit Comment line was too short to fully explain. So I usually remove "well known" when I meet it. (By the way what does my age have to do with the issue?) Sorry again, Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 22:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Opal walrus
Your picture of the walrus at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Opal_Walros_figurine.jpg. Do you know what the rock surrounding the opal is? Is this type of stone (with opal insets) available to carvers? :Hullo Heather, thanks for your question. Sorry to be slow in replying but I've had a computer virus that took hours to get rid of. I have the walrus in front of me now, it has a brown, streaky, base rock with the surface polished to show the opal within, it's very beautiful. I live near Bristol, England, and bought it for 110 UK pounds at a Gem Fair about 40 miles from my home, held at Cheltenham Race Course.

:I remember that the uncarved walrus chunk was from an Australian opal mine, and I believe the seller said it was then carved in China. Sorry, I don't know the name of the brown base rock.

:I also own a tiny piece of uncarved opal, with opal flashes showing, only about 2 cms by 2 cms, weighing 4 grams, and that cost 17 UK pounds! (the walrus weighs 145 grams). So you can certainly buy the rough opal stone at UK Gem Fairs but its extremely expensive. I don't know where else you can buy it. Just a disclaimer: I collect gem animals and am not a gem or geology expert (just seen how poor that picture is, I'll upload a better one soon). == Georgia, USA, School District Articles ==
Hey! Thanks for editing on the Griffin-Spalding County School District‎ page. I, being a bored kid with half a life, created over 150 school district article pages for the state of Georgia on Wikipedia during the summer holiday. There were only a few pages started previous to my enormous task that I set for myself. So, with your tip that you added by putting the country tag into the introductory paragraph, could you do this to the other 150 something other articles that I started? If not, that is perfectly fine with me. I was just wondering since you suggested it in your summary of editing; just let me know what you decide. Thanks again though! <span style="font-family:Calibri;color:green;font-size:2em">T</span><span style="font-family:Calibri;color:green">amer_of_Hope</span> <span style="font-family:Calibri;color:royalblue">talk</span> 00:26, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
:Hi from England, thanks for writing. The prospect of adding "USA" to 150 articles is a little scary but I'm happy to do it. I'l take it slowly (over, say, a month, at five a day). You think you've got "half a life!! Well I've been editing and adding photos since 2002 for about 340 days of each year! However, because I'm retired, life is one long holiday (happily) and so I've plenty of time. ::Yeah, it is quite a bit but it's something to do for a month. I spent all of June working on them, creating the pages. I got maybe five or seven created each day. I worry about what my "retirement" days will be but that's way into the future. Why I say this? Because I have a neighbour that is retired and he spends all of his day raking pine straw and keeping his yard really nice. It just seems so boring. I want to thank you for adding the pieces of Wikipedia together for so long, it's people like you and I that make Wikipedia what it is, even when scholarly people look down upon it. :] <span style="font-family:Calibri;color:green;font-size:2em">T</span><span style="font-family:Calibri;color:green">amer_of_Hope</span> <span style="font-family:Calibri;color:royalblue">talk</span> 19:13, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

:You've made my day! Thank you so much for the Barnstar. I assume you refer to the Indian school articles that I'm working on at the moment. I've edited many hundreds and there are hundreds to go. It's a task that particularly needs doing because English is probably not the native language of the writers of these articles so sentence construction is often a little odd. Other problems are padding words like "also", "various", and "currently". I usually have to remove Mission, Aim and Vision statements that are so generalised that they could apply to any school in the world! Every lab and library is "state of the art" or "modern" or "well-equipped". However I don't mean to make fun of the writers because they have done all the real work, just leaving me make the article properly encyclopedic. ::Thank you for cleaning up articles of Indian Colleges and Schools Sir, I really appreciate that. Yes I know that Indian articles usually contain words like the ones you've mentioned above, and this is usually because the articles are based on the official websites, and many articles are just mildly reworded in order to avoid copyvios. I am on a drive to clean up and organise Indian college articles myself, and its good to know that you are doing the same! == Indian Colleges ==
Hello Sir,
I guess you missed my earlier comment on your talk page. Nevertheless, I appreciate your work in cleaning up Indian College articles. I wanted your opinion regarding an article R.V. College of Engineering. There is a section 'Student Activities'. Right now, it is a bulleted list, but I feel it doesn't look very elegant. I thought of converting it into prose, but that didn't turn out very elegant either. At the same time, most of the matter there is notable, and are properly sourced, so I can't delete them. It would be helpful if you could give me some inputs on how to rearrange the material. Good day. MikeLynch (talk) 08:19, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

:Mike, thanks for writing. No, I didn't miss your nice comments about me (above) but I did forgot to reply. Sorry!<br>
:On the subject of the RVCE article, I agree that the bulleted list looks a little odd for the extracurricular items so I now think that it should be returned to a straight set of paragraphs. Will you do that? I can see only those two ways of formatting that section i.e. asterisks or no asterisks. Thanks to you for all your work, Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 17:22, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on :File:Eilmers.flight.arp.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hang on to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. <!-- Template:Db-noimage-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> Logan Talk Contributions 23:49, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Monarch A321
Hi. Was your aircraft taken on 12 September 2009 (G-OZBU). If it was, what time was it taken. If it was taken first thing in the Morning, It was off to Malaga as ZB654. If it was taken in the afternoon (around 4:00), It was off to Alicante as ZB676.
Have any More Monarch photos. Any aircraft with the following registration would be nice as they are not on Wikimedia Commons:
*G-OJMR (A300)
*G-MONS (A300)
*G-MONX (A320)
*G-OZBE (A321)
*G-OZBR (A321)
*G-EOMA (A330)
*G-MONK (B757)
Thanks.

::The date the camera reads for that photo is 12th September as you say (which was a Saturday), yet my handwritten notes say it was taken on 13th September 2009 (which was a Sunday) So I don't know for sure if I took it on the 12th or the 13th. However since I usually go photographing on a Sunday (less traffic on the motorways) it was almost certainly the 13th. I know it was taken at 10.17 in the morning and the aircraft was taking off from Manchester Airport. Sorry I don't have any more Monarch photos. == Nut Goddess Picture ==
March 21, 2011

Hi Adrian,

I have been doing some online research trying to find the original information about this particular picture of the Nut Goddess. There are numerous pictures like this on the internet, I came across your picture and thought I'd ask a real person that may be able to help me. I am painting this picture of Nut on a large canvas but I can't seem to find the image's origin and I need to enlarge without distortion or find where I can see the hierglyphics better in order to paint them properly. Thank you!

:Hi Paula, thanks for writing. Regrettably I can't help you! ==File:USAF C-130J Super Hercules at RIAT 2010 arp.jpg==

Adrian, a user has questioned if :File:USAF C-130J Super Hercules at RIAT 2010 arp.jpg is actually of a C-130J. As far as I can tell, from the angle of the 4 visible blades, these are 6-bladed props. Do you remember the aircraft, or have a way to check its tail number to confirm that it is indeed a C-130J? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 08:03, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
:BilCat, thanks for letting me know of the users deletion. Yes, this is most certainly a J model, it so happens that the other 2 blades lie up with the nacelle and can't be seen. This is proven if you look at picture http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1244860 on Air Britains website, which is the exact same aircraft (serial 78613). I will give the Anon the Air Britain link, and make a note on the Image Description Page that it IS 6-bladed. Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 16:20, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

::Thanks! I also asked about the image at WT:AIR#C-130 identity, and got some great responses. It's actually a C-130J-30 stretched model, so if you can update the file comments to reflect that, it would be good. Thanks again. - BilCat (talk) 17:04, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in :File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". A larger view might help settle the argumemt, and we could recrop it to show the full designation. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 01:35, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Adrian

I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy. My email is ********. Cheers Jonathan--122.56.234.66 (talk) 02:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC) 122.56.234.66 (talk) 02:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathon, thank you for writing, I have replied by email. By the way, I have removed your email (having taken a note of it) because to give it here is to invite email harvesting programs to send you lots of stuff you don't want! Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_bus_in_bath_england_arp.jpg 223.233.78.185 (talk) 05:32, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Hello Sharad.
For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Update: ah, I see ... stuff like this. Interesting. Oh and this one: Adrian, you must watch the video! Does this stuff happen to you all the time?? Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:19, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hullo, I am Adrian Pingstone. I have gone back through my photos and checked the date of the bus pic. I definitely took it on 28th July 2008 in Bath (I live about 15 miles away and my wife likes shopping there). Thanks for your question. Big thanks to DBak for a great reply. Hello! I am working on the article Hypericum. The image of Image:Hypericum.flower.750pix.jpg has many questions surrounding it and I would like to get in touch with you about it rather than simply remove it from the article. If I cannot resolve that it really is Hypericum calycinum, I will have to remove it. Thank you, Fritzmann2002 19:05, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kindness in writing to me. I put that picture on 13 years ago so have no memory of where I took it nor which hypericum it is (but know I took it near where I live in Bristol, England). Since the pic is now very old you are welcome to remove it - I have 2000 pictures on Wikipedia so I won't miss it! - Arpingstone (talk) 20:06, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for replying quickly. I am glad can remove the picture without any controversy. Happy Wiki-ing! Fritzmann2002 13:20, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Permission to use figure in a book.[edit]

Dear Adrian, I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:

http://vr.cs.uiuc.edu/

We are hoping to include the picture of yours (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/60/Grey_square_optical_illusion.PNG) in this book (Chapter 6, Figure 6.23b). Could we please have your permission for this? Thank you.

Please contact me at (removed) Sincerely,

Adam Warkoczewski — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.25.191.254 (talk) 10:21, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately that incredible optical illusion is not mine, I found it an unknown place on the internet and (naughtily) used it without permission. So sorry I can't help and I have no idea who is the actual "owner" of the pic.
PS We answer questions like this below the question so that other people can know what the answer is. I have removed your email because to give it without disguise is inviting email harvesting prorams to find you. Best wishes - Arpingstone (talk) 18:23, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Need consent to use your image[edit]

Hello,

I have written a post on Lynton & Lynmouth and about our visit to it on my blog. Soon I am going to publish a book using all these posts.

Look forward to getting your consent.

Thanks for writing to me. I'm sorry but I have no info whatever on the car. Best wishes, Adrian Arpingstone (talk) 08:19, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - I have a question about a word used on the article KJAK. There is a sentence which starts out: "The station had desensing problems". I am not sure of the meaning intended with the use of the word "desensing"; I can't find it in any printed or online dictionaries. Maybe you can clear this up? If you'd like to reply here, I'll be watching for your response, or ping me. User:Rudy2alan (talk)

EC-400[edit]

Just to let you know that EC-400 has nothing to do with the Spanish Air Force, it is being used as a demonstrator by Airbus Military and is to be delivered to the Royal Air Force as ZM421 at some point. MilborneOne (talk) 15:11, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting my silly error. I stupidly thought the rear fuse logo was that of the Spanish Air Force! My only excuse is old age!! Thanks again - Arpingstone (talk)

Hello, this is Wastrel Way[edit]

Hello[edit]

Hi Adrian. We used to interact many many years ago here when I edited under a different name. I greatly value your contributions and I note you've been a bit quiet recently. Are you OK? I do hope so. With all good wishes DBaK (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian! I do have a session of adding pictures after each Fairford Air Show so I will always add something each year. Thanks for writing, Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 09:00, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I never replied to this – when I read it I was in India and had plenty of other things on my mind, and then a school trip to Wales and then some wretched pandemic intervened. Sorry, and thanks for the lovely reply, and it is nice to see you around however full-time or occasional it is. With all good wishes, DBaK (talk) 11:14, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you![edit]

Thank you for your pictures of South west England! I've studied in Torquay as a high school an international student last year, your pictures brought so much memory for me, especially the Torbay town hall, I used to walk through there every school day. It was a really important year for me, and ones again, thanks for your images! BjLRC (talk) 19:02, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Brownie (my favourite cake, how did you know!). Your lovely comment is much appreciated. Thanks Arpingstone (talk)

Should I say HB2U?[edit]

Dear Adrian, I have just seen your userpage edit and am wondering if urgent congrats are called for? If so please consider it done, and a certain song sung or played at you too. And I hope you are having an excellent day whether this particular one has an extra numerical significance or not! Cheers DBaK (talk) 11:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg[edit]

Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". A larger view might help settle the argumemt, and we could recrop it to show the full designation. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 01:35, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian, nice to hear from you. I'm in good health and reached 80 years old in July (but no celebrations due to Mr (or Mrs) Virus). Nowadays I do very little on WP because the aircraft pages are mostly fully illustrated so I can use decreasingly few of my pictures. I do a little editing for grammar and style.
In answer to your question, unfortunately I have no copy of that picture and no information on it. I tried looking for that window gap on pictures of prototypes and flight test aircraft, but no luck.
Sorry I can’t help. I would have no objection to removal of the pic if the aircraft type remains uncertain. Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 18:29, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Over 2 years later the question has come up again. But I also found this photo of an A310-300 in the same livery, probably the same aircraft. It has the same window gap after the -300. I hope all is still well with you.

Larger macaw picture?[edit]

Hello! Would you happen to have a higher resolution / wider crop of commons:File:Parrot.red.macaw.1.arp.750pix.jpg? It would make for a nice desktop background. I know the photo is 16+ years old now, so it's probably a long shot. codl (talk) 19:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What a shame! In those far-off days I was stupid enough not to keep the larger resolution pic when I reduced them in size for WP. I don't remember why I used 750 pixels as my standard upload size. Nowadays of course I wouldn't do that! Thanks for writing, Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:02, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An edit from 2012[edit]

Hi Arpingstone - I/m confused by this edit of yours from 2012, where you seem to be overwriting an article about St. Anthony's School, Ranchi, Jharkand, by an article about Sacred Heart Convent School (Jamshedpur) - a different school in a totally different city.
I don't expect you to remember it, but can you throw any light on this? as the page history has not helped me - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 12:52, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately I am completely baffled by what has happened! It's really weird!! I would never vandalise Wikipedia and am highly experienced in editing but I can't work out what happened. So, sorry, but I can't help. Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:01, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Using Picture of Kelvin Wake for the textbook Gerthsen Physik (in german language)[edit]

Dear Mr. Pingstone,

I would like to use your picture (Kelvin wakes on Avon) for an example discussion of water waves in the german language textbook Gerthsen Physik. I am the editor of the book.

I understand that we could simply go ahead according to the licences announced on Wikipedia. Nevertheless I would prefer to have your personal consent.

I was trying to find an email with no success. If you send me a note at "meschede AT uni-bonn DOT (followed by a D and an E)" I could send you the section of the manuscript.
