I am not familiar with 'behind the sceens' Wikipedia but I would like to use one of your images. It is the one of my son, Chris Pote, leaving RIAT at Fairford this year in his EurofoxLR G-GBNZ. It is already in the public domain, but I would prefer to be in contact with you and keep you informed of his progress. I am preparing a 'press release' for New Zealand and will send you a copy.
My email is ********.

:::Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.

::::{{tps}} Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says {{tq|28 July 2008}} once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot ''absolutely'' be guaranteed accurate (Adrian ''might'' be a mad deceiver and ''might'' be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting ''might'' have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
::::For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers [[User:DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered|DBaK]] ([[User talk:DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered|talk]]) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

==Disambiguation link notification for November 4==
I saw your [[Coot]] query, Adrian. You're right that the shield should extend onto the head, but I think it's just the angle, so that some of the white is hidden by black head feathers. It's definitely Eurasian Coot, and an adult at that (sub-adults still have a similar shield, but the bill is grey-tipped. [[User:jimfbleak|Jim]]

: Ha! Jim is too quick for me again. Yup: definatly a Coot. Maybe ours are a little different. I'll look into it after the more important task -- some sleep! (I just got home after a 3-day trip. It's 2:20AM and I'm bushed.) Cheers -- [[User:Tannin|Tannin]]

::If this is still the same coot pic (as at 3 Feb), yes it is a Eurasian Coot; the absence of the 'white piece extending up over the head' indicates that it is an immature; the white shield only reaches full size when it is about a year old. - [[User:MPF|MPF]] 15:09, 3 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Adrian, A quick word of thanks for all the effort you've put in adding the many car photographs to articles over the last few months. One small point though - I wonder why nearly all of them are a rear three-quarter view? Do you favour this view for some particular reason or is it accidental? Most illustrative photos of cars tend to go for front 3/4 views. I'm only curious - no criticism intended. Keep up the good work! [[User:GRAHAMUK|Graham]] 05:42, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hey Adrian:
Thanks for the support , buddy! I have begun uploading photos of [[Boxing|boxers]] to their pages. Preferably, when they are hitting an important opponent cause I think those photos are awesome. Of course, after asking for permission first. But I enlisted Maio for that because I dont want to over load you with work! I have permission for a [[Mexicana de Aviacion]] jetliner but permit was given two years ago almost. I also will ask for permission of a [[Delta Airlines]] jet. My love affair with Delta dates back to 1980 when I first flew and it was on Delta, to Orlando from [[Luis Munoz Marin International Airport|SJU]]. Thank [[God]] dad didnt choose the alternative, [[Eastern Airlines]], cause then my favorite airline would be gone now! LOL!

Hello! I am working on the article [[Hypericum]]. The image of [[:Image:Hypericum.flower.750pix.jpg]] has many questions surrounding it and I would like to get in touch with you about it rather than simply remove it from the article. If I cannot resolve that it really is Hypericum calycinum, I will have to remove it. Thank you, [[User:Fritzmann2002|Fritzmann2002]] 19:05, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
But Im gonna re ask for the Mexicana permit and ask for the Delta permit in March, so not to overload you with work! BTW I love Mexicana too although I never flew them: Theirs was one of the first planes I could recognize at SJU when I was about nine..LOL
:Thank you for your kindness in writing to me. I put that picture on 13 years ago so have no memory of where I took it nor which hypericum it is (but know I took it near where I live in Bristol, England). Since the pic is now very old you are welcome to remove it - I have 2000 pictures on Wikipedia so I won't miss it! - [[User:Arpingstone|Arpingstone]] ([[User talk:Arpingstone#top|talk]]) 20:06, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Dear Adrian,
And I need to ask, exactly what system to I need in my memory to be able to transport photo files from my files to wikipedia and how do I get that system and is it expensive?
I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:

Kind Regards,
250 pixels is certainly good; especially when you're using the 'thumb' parameter that puts that (rather ugly, so far) border around the image. Good thing with the new code is that it's just a quick edit to change the size! However, when not using 'thumb' in the attributes, 300px doesn't look over big, IMO.

==Copyright release==
Hi. We've decided that we need to tag all images because of all the dodgy images on wikipedia. As you release your (really good) images into the public domain I've been tagging them with <nowiki>{{msg:PD}}</nowiki>. As you point out the wording of this needs to be changed as yours are public domain internationally. [[User:Secretlondon|Secretlondon]] 12:20, Feb 21, 2004 (UTC)

==[[KJAK]]==
:I think we should make the international PD the default. The current message is really designed for images that are copyright expired in the US. The idea behind tagging is so that images can be filtered. At the moment some using wikipedia can't really use any of the images as there is no way of filtering out American fair use, etc. This is what I'm doing - so a third party user can keep the legal ones. I hope this makes sense. :[[User:Secretlondon|Secretlondon]] 12:28, Feb 21, 2004 (UTC)
Hello - I have a question about a word used on the article KJAK. There is a sentence which starts out: "The station had desensing problems". I am not sure of the meaning intended with the use of the word "desensing"; I can't find it in any printed or online dictionaries. Maybe you can clear this up? If you'd like to reply here, I'll be watching for your response, or ping me. [[User:Rudy2alan]] ([[User talk:Rudy2alan|talk]])

::Adrian - I've sorted it. Please add <nowiki> {{subst:PD}}</nowiki> to your images. I've made the US specific one <nowiki>{{subst:PD-US}}</nowiki>. It reads ''This image has been released into the [[public domain]] by the author. This applies worldwide. See [[Wikipedia:Copyright|Copyright]].'' ::[[User:Secretlondon|Secretlondon]] 13:22, Feb 21, 2004 (UTC)

== Hello, this is Wastrel Way ==
Thanks and God bless you!

Greetings from across the Atlantic! I see that you wrote the article on Tillandsia, and I thank you. I think this genus of plants is of interest to many people and there is much more to be said. I have done a bit of editing to the article and failed to upload a picture of one of my plants in bloom for a reason that I don't understand. I think there is much more to be done instead of repeating that "some of these plants live in the forest, some live in the desert, some are green and some are grey, some have thick leaves and the leaves of others are thinner" which is almost the way this article reads :-), and without sources. Some of it seems to be badly translated from German, and tried to fix that. If there is a general work on this genus of plants in English that I could obtain by inter-library loan I would like to know about it, if you know of it. Briefly, my background is in biology, zoology, then law and then computers and computer networks. I wrote the article [[Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas]] a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. :: Hi from Adrian! Nice to hear from you. Yes, I have been quiet for some years now. I mainly worked on inserting aircraft pictures and on editing grammatical errors (my greatest hate is use of the word “current”). However, most aircraft articles are now fully illustrated so I found I could use very few of my aircraft pics, and I have no interest in just adding them into the huge collection on Commons. I grew tired of editing grammatical errors, so have stopped all contributions but could come back one day. I do have a session of adding pictures after each Fairford Air Show so I will always add something each year. Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in [[:File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg]]? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". ::Hi from Adrian, nice to hear from you. I'm in good health and reached 80 years old in July (but no celebrations due to Mr (or Mrs) Virus). Nowadays I do very little on WP because the aircraft pages are mostly fully illustrated so I can use decreasingly few of my pictures. I do a little editing for grammar and style.
::In answer to your question, unfortunately I have no copy of that picture and no information on it. I tried looking for that window gap on pictures of prototypes and flight test aircraft, but no luck.
::Sorry I can’t help. I would have no objection to removal of the pic if the aircraft type remains uncertain. Best wishes, [[User:Arpingstone|Arpingstone]] ([[User talk:Arpingstone#top|talk]]) 18:29, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

:::Over 2 years later the question has come up again. But I also found [https://www.gettyimages.com.br/detail/foto-jornal%C3%ADstica/im-liniendienst-hat-sich-die-a310-300-der-kleine-foto-jornal%C3%ADstica/542870933?adppopup=true this photo of an A310-300] in the same livery, probably the same aircraft. It has the same window gap after the -300. I hope all is still well with you.
I'm no expert on cameras. My Fuji Finepix 4700 is mechanically and optically good, but only 3X optical zoom, not interchangeable nor screw-on to my telescope. [[User:Jimfbleak|Jim]]. Incidentally, this page is at 39kb.

I just *assumed* USAF photos and did a real quick look thru the USAF museum info itself. Guess I should learn to look closer! Hello! Would you happen to have a higher resolution / wider crop of [[commons:File:Parrot.red.macaw.1.arp.750pix.jpg]]? It would make for a nice desktop background. == An edit from 2012 ==
Hi Adrian. Cameras ..... Tough choice! I can only really comment on the Nikons in any detail. I have a Coolpix 4500 (well, two of them now) which is a little over-priced, 4MP, 4X zoom, very neat and clever in lots of ways, and drives me crazy with its shutter delay. The delay is about 0.7 sec. Doing wildlife stuff (as I do) that makes it mega-frustrating, but for digiscoping the CoolPix 4500 is petty much the only game in town. Nothing else fits onto a scope and performs as wel as the Nikon does. (With nearly all others, you get a lot of vignetting.)
Hi Arpingstone - I/m confused by [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=St._Anthony%27s_School%2C_Ranchi&type=revision&diff=477254470&oldid=474407548 this edit of yours] from 2012, where you seem to be overwriting an article about St. Anthony's School, Ranchi, Jharkand, by an article about [[Sacred Heart Convent School (Jamshedpur)]] - a different school in a totally different city.<br>I don't expect you to remember it, but can you throw any light on this? as the page history has not helped me - thanks - [[User:Arjayay|Arjayay]] ([[User talk:Arjayay|talk]]) 12:52, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

== Using Picture of Kelvin Wake for the textbook Gerthsen Physik (in german language) ==
That estimated 0.7sec is ''including'' focus delay, so you'd stil find it better than your Oly, but I doubt you'd be saisfied.

Dear Mr. Pingstone,
What would I get if I were you? (i.e., not digiscoping.) First, I'd listen to EricD's advice (on my talk page). Eric is much better informed than I am about cameras in general. Second, I think I'd bite the bullet and make up my mind to wait another 6 to 12 months, and then buy an SLR.

I would like to use your picture (Kelvin wakes on Avon) for an example discussion of
Digital SLRs are really starting to threaten decent value now. There is the new Canon, essentially a 10D with a plastic body and slightly downgraded electronics, that is getting excellent reports and about 2X the price of a Coolpix. More interesting still is the new small Pentax. Give the Pentax three or four months to start biting into Canon's market share at the DSLR entry-level point, and it's price war time. Good for buyers! Say ... oh ... any time from Octover or so onwards. Better yet, just after Xmas is usually a good time. Retailers are flat and manufacturers try to sweeten things up for them.
water waves in the german language textbook Gerthsen Physik. I am the editor of the book.

I understand that we could simply go ahead according to the licences announced on Wikipedia.
I ''know'' that isn't what you wanted to hear, but I am not aware of a non-SLR digital camera that will really do what you want yet.
Nevertheless I would prefer to have your personal consent.

I was trying to find an email with no success. If you send me a note at

* Ignore "digital zoom". It's complete maketing crap. Serves no purpose whatever. Optical or nothing.
* Try to avoid non-standard flash card formats (i.e., Sony Memory Stick, XD, all those other weird ones. ''Real'' cameras use genuine Compact Flash.
* When calculating the cost of the camera, be sure to include the cost of ''at least'' one set of spare batteries (more likely two sets - I have 5 batteries plus an in-car charger, and it's only just enough), and plenty of flash cards. The more megapixels the camera, the faster you go through flash cards, as your images take more space.

I have a Canon G3 (now superseded by G5 model) and I'm very pleased with it. It's not an SLR, but it offers a feature set that comes very close to one, but at a lower price point. The lack of true through-the-lens shot composition isn't a problem, since you can see what you get on the screen, and once you get used to it, this mode of operation is easier than holding it up close to your eye anyway. The main benefit I can see from a true SLR is lens interchangeability, but the new generation of digital SLRs do not accept standard analogue lenses of old (for good optical reasons), so you will have to reinvest in lenses if you go that route. The G3/G5 uses Compact Flash, and I agree with the above - avoid the proprietary formats. On a 256M card, I can get over 400 shots at good workaday quality, and still well over 100 with ultimate quality. The Canon has enough manual modes to keep the creative photographer in me happy, but will still point and shoot for snaps in "auto" mode. Shutter lag is acceptable, better than the Fuji models around at the moment, though could still be better. There is a way to get rid of most of the lag using a "fast shot" mode, where it sets the camera up just short of taking the actual picture, then when you press the button it completes the shot. Seems to work. Optical zoom is only 3x (maybe the G5 extends this, not sure), sometimes I would like a bit more. Asd Tannin mentions, digital zoom is not worth paying too much attention too, though one time I used it the rseults were better than I expected, since the camera is able to interpolate using all the data from the CCD, so the result is better than what you'd get if you just zoomed up a JPEG image later in a software package. Anyway, I recommend it, but trhe market is moving fast, so there may already be something better for the same money. [[User:GRAHAMUK|Graham]] 21:53, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

==Mexicana Permission granted==
Dear Arp:
Hi! AntonioMartin here. Good news, the onoly good news in my family today actually. We were granted permission to use a Mexicana photo on the [[Mexicana de Aviacion]] page. Let me know your email and I will send you the link so that you can upload it. Like I aiways said Id do it myseklf but my conouter doesnt have the memory space so I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My uncle and his wife were injured at a shooting yesterday night. My family is going through a terrible time right now. The injuries are non life threatening , through but you can imagine how we are.

Thanks and [[God]] bless you! See ya in a while!

Greetings Adrian. I have changed the pic on [[Undercarriage]] to better fit the article. Maybe you have an even better one somewhere, a clear closeup perhaps? Cheers. [[User:Moriori|Moriori]] 01:43, Mar 13, 2004 (UTC)

:Hi Adrian. The original pic was excellent. Is. No question. However, if you read the page history you will see where a user insisted on "a [[tripod]] effect" to describe undercarriage configuration. It clearly isn't, and it isn't an aeronautical term anyway, so that's why I swapped to an a/c showing five sets of wheels. The user seems to have done a bunk and maybe "tripod" won't reappear, so I'll revert the pics. Gladly. But if he comes back, and tries his "tripod" silliness, then ...... Cheers. ==Photo Uploads==
Hey Adrian nice to hear from you again! Lots of things have happened here: My computer is next to my door, and since my uncle and his wife were forced to open the door before they got shot Im worried about that because of that I dont collaborate much here anymore. We think it was a robbery.

Anyways, about the photo, I have been granted permission to use photos on the [[Avianca]], [[Delta Airlines]] and [[Futura]] articles. Problem is, all the owners keep asking to have their names under the photos. I figured out I could put it there, send them the link, make them happy, and then erase it.

I was wondering if you could help me with the uploading of some of these photos.

Thanks, and [[God]] bless you!

Sincerely yours,
''[[User:AntonioMartin|Antonio La Loca Martin]]''

:Hi Antonio! I notice that Dori has sugested you try really hard to do the uploads yourself but I don't think there's much chance you would succeed so I'll certainly do them for you. Just let me know, here on my Talk Page, the URL and I'll put them on.
:On the subject of copyright, I'm afraid we simply don't (as far as I know) allow copyright notices in pic captions. Surely your suppliers would be happy with a link at the bottom of the article? If they insist that the copyright notice be directly under the pic then I can't help you. It's certainly not a solution to do the notice then erase it later! <br>
:I'm very sorry to hear what happened to your relatives, Best Wishes,<br>

Dear Arp:
What would I do without you?? [[User:Sam Spade|Sam]] told me recently he enjoys articles more with photos, and it made me realize how stale they look without pictures, specially airline ones. Im very picky when it comes down to choosing which photos to ask for rights to inclusion here, I like ours to show the airlines name and logo clearly so people can see what their livery looks like.

That said, you came through again! The next rights I got granted, although I have many, many rights granted, but the next ones are for the [[Dominicana de Aviacion]], [[Aeromexico]] and [[Aeroperu]] articles. I will send them to you ASAP and dont worry, I know youre a busy man so Im not in a hurry:)

Thanks for uploading the new photos! Its good to hear everythings good at home! As far as here, my mother is getting tested for Cancer again. If no bad news comes before the weekend I will be busy pursuing my other hobby besides wikipedia, planes and boxing: [[autograph]]s. Muhammad Ali, Celine Dion, Prince, Evander Holyfield and Ali's daughter Laila, who is making quite a name for herself as a boxer too, are going to be in town Saturday at a charity event and God willing that mom comes out ok, Im planning to be there.

Well, soon I will send you a new batch, specifically a [[Midwest Airlines]] photo that was supposed to be sent with the last batch but because of a small misunderstanding I had with the airliners.net people (I clicked on the wrong photo ID and thought they'd changed the photo I had permission for was changed into one of a [[United Airlines]] plane) I wasnt able to send it. Thats clarified now, so that one will be sent to you soon, as well as one of [[Skyservice]] and [[Nippon Cargo Airlines|NCA]].

Ive been asking for photos to include on articles Ive written about airlines, being specially good to those who have sent me plane models for free but also to hispanic airlines. Monarch was excellent , they sent me one, they were real nice. So was NCA, they, [[British Airways]] and [[Palmair]] each sent me two plane models for free. I see it as a favor back to them. But in BA's case I already saw they have photos at their article anyways...I also have [[Fina Air]], [[Fine Air]], [[Cubana de Aviacion]] and other airline photos coming up pretty soon.

Well keep mom in your rayers. Thanks angain and [[God]] bless you! Idf I were to write an article about you what can I say it would be very POV because youre an excellent friend and wonderful man.

About Yate article--struck close to home, eh? ;-) I find that it's usually easier to just change text than it is to try to get someone else to change it to match your ideas (unless I'm being paid as a tech writer mentor, which I sometimes am, but even so--I think people can learn a lot from seeing their writing edited). The current Yate edit could be even more NPOV and downplay the surveys even more. Coincidentally, while I was following some other dubious edits, I found [[Newbury Park|this]]--check the history for original version and very POV editor. I just went in and changed the article (what there was of it to salvage). It's still pretty trivial info but probably accurate and probably NPOV. 'Course, you've been around Wikipedia much longer than I have. I don't think Dash was really throwing down the gauntlet and he might or might not get NPOV and encyclopedic writing, but he did make a lot of edits trying to address some of your concerns, and maybe he benefited/would benefit from seeing stuff edited as well. So I'm all for more/more interesting info on Yate. Imagine--they have a McDonald's! Do they have a Starbucks, too? (trying to keep a straight face...) Hi Adrian

Hi Adrian...I am Sharad from India. Doing fact check story. Need your help. one of your photo is edited and circulating in social media with wrong information. you took a photo of bus in bath city. I want to know when was it taken.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tour_bus_in_bath_england_arp.jpg 223.233.78.185 (talk) 05:32, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Hello Sharad. Adrian doesn't seem to have edited here for a little while, so I hope neither you nor he will mind me stepping in, in the hope of helping. If you have a look at the photo's information at the link you gave, you will see that it says 28 July 2008 once in the summary and twice in the metadata. Whilst these cannot absolutely be guaranteed accurate (Adrian might be a mad deceiver and might be editing the metadata and simply fibbing in the summary, or his camera's clock setting might have been wrong) it is very, very likely that they are correct. The metadata is supplied automatically by the camera and is very likely to be right, and most cameras' clocks will tend to be right or rightish. The balance of probabilities is very much in favour of 28 July 2008 though clearly 100% certainty would be hard to attain.
For my curiosity and perhaps Adrian's when he sees this, do you mind telling us where the photo is circulating and why the wrong information is a problem? I'm having grave difficulty imagining how this would work! Cheers DBaK (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Since the pic is now very old you are welcome to remove it - I have 2000 pictures on Wikipedia so I won't miss it! - Arpingstone (talk) 20:06, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for replying quickly. I am glad can remove the picture without any controversy. Happy Wiki-ing! Fritzmann2002 13:20, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 1[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Patrouille Suisse, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Northrop. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Permission to use figure in a book.[edit]

Dear Adrian, I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:

http://vr.cs.uiuc.edu/

We are hoping to include the picture of yours (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/60/Grey_square_optical_illusion.PNG) in this book (Chapter 6, Figure 6.23b). Could we please have your permission for this? Thank you.

Please contact me at (removed) Sincerely,

Adam Warkoczewski — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.25.191.254 (talk) 10:21, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately that incredible optical illusion is not mine, I found it an unknown place on the internet and (naughtily) used it without permission. So sorry I can't help and I have no idea who is the actual "owner" of the pic.
PS We answer questions like this below the question so that other people can know what the answer is. I have removed your email because to give it without disguise is inviting email harvesting prorams to find you. Best wishes - Arpingstone (talk) 18:23, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Need consent to use your image[edit]

Hello,

I have written a post on Lynton & Lynmouth and about our visit to it on my blog. Soon I am going to publish a book using all these posts.

Look forward to getting your consent.

Thanks for writing to me. I'm sorry but I have no info whatever on the car. Best wishes, Adrian Arpingstone (talk) 08:19, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Rudy2alan (talk)

EC-400[edit]

Just to let you know that EC-400 has nothing to do with the Spanish Air Force, it is being used as a demonstrator by Airbus Military and is to be delivered to the Royal Air Force as ZM421 at some point. MilborneOne (talk) 15:11, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting my silly error. I stupidly thought the rear fuse logo was that of the Spanish Air Force! My only excuse is old age!! Thanks again - Arpingstone (talk)

Hello, this is Wastrel Way[edit]

I wrote the article Shoal Creek, Austin, Texas a year or two ago, and I am working on some others now, but I grow these plants and would welcome any suggestions you have for contributions that I might make. Hello[edit]

Hi Adrian. We used to interact many many years ago here when I edited under a different name. I greatly value your contributions and I note you've been a bit quiet recently. Are you OK? I do hope so. With all good wishes DBaK (talk) 13:39, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian! Thanks for writing, Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 09:00, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I never replied to this – when I read it I was in India and had plenty of other things on my mind, and then a school trip to Wales and then some wretched pandemic intervened. Sorry, and thanks for the lovely reply, and it is nice to see you around however full-time or occasional it is. With all good wishes, DBaK (talk) 11:14, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A brownie for you![edit]

Thank you for your pictures of South west England! I've studied in Torquay as a high school an international student last year, your pictures brought so much memory for me, especially the Torbay town hall, I used to walk through there every school day. It was a really important year for me, and ones again, thanks for your images! BjLRC (talk) 19:02, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Brownie (my favourite cake, how did you know!). Your lovely comment is much appreciated. Thanks Arpingstone (talk)

Should I say HB2U?[edit]

Dear Adrian, I have just seen your userpage edit and am wondering if urgent congrats are called for? If so please consider it done, and a certain song sung or played at you too. And I hope you are having an excellent day whether this particular one has an extra numerical significance or not! Cheers DBaK (talk) 11:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg[edit]

Hi Adrian, it's been awhile since we've spoken, so I hope all is well with you. Do you happen to have a wider view of the aircraft in File:Wing.slat.600pix.jpg? Some users are taking the "300" on the fuselage to mean it's an A300, while your file info clearly states that it's an "A310-300". A larger view might help settle the argumemt, and we could recrop it to show the full designation. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 01:35, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Adrian, nice to hear from you. I'm in good health and reached 80 years old in July (but no celebrations due to Mr (or Mrs) Virus). Nowadays I do very little on WP because the aircraft pages are mostly fully illustrated so I can use decreasingly few of my pictures. I do a little editing for grammar and style.
In answer to your question, unfortunately I have no copy of that picture and no information on it. I tried looking for that window gap on pictures of prototypes and flight test aircraft, but no luck.
Sorry I can’t help. I would have no objection to removal of the pic if the aircraft type remains uncertain. Best wishes, Arpingstone (talk) 18:29, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Over 2 years later the question has come up again. But I also found this photo of an A310-300 in the same livery, probably the same aircraft. It has the same window gap after the -300. I hope all is still well with you.

Larger macaw picture?[edit]

Hello! Would you happen to have a higher resolution / wider crop of commons:File:Parrot.red.macaw.1.arp.750pix.jpg? It would make for a nice desktop background. I know the photo is 16+ years old now, so it's probably a long shot. codl (talk) 19:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What a shame! In those far-off days I was stupid enough not to keep the larger resolution pic when I reduced them in size for WP. I don't remember why I used 750 pixels as my standard upload size. Nowadays of course I wouldn't do that! Thanks for writing, Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:02, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An edit from 2012[edit]

Hi Arpingstone - I/m confused by this edit of yours from 2012, where you seem to be overwriting an article about St. Anthony's School, Ranchi, Jharkand, by an article about Sacred Heart Convent School (Jamshedpur) - a different school in a totally different city.
I don't expect you to remember it, but can you throw any light on this? as the page history has not helped me - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 12:52, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately I am completely baffled by what has happened! It's really weird!! I would never vandalise Wikipedia and am highly experienced in editing but I can't work out what happened. So, sorry, but I can't help. Best wishes Arpingstone (talk) 08:01, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Using Picture of Kelvin Wake for the textbook Gerthsen Physik (in german language)[edit]

Dear Mr. Pingstone,

I would like to use your picture (Kelvin wakes on Avon) for an example discussion of water waves in the german language textbook Gerthsen Physik. I am the editor of the book.

I understand that we could simply go ahead according to the licences announced on Wikipedia. Nevertheless I would prefer to have your personal consent.

I was trying to find an email with no success. If you send me a note at "meschede AT uni-bonn DOT (followed by a D and an E)" I could send you the section of the manuscript.
