I wish you Merry Xmas and a Happy 2015. --CeeGee 16:20, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alessandro57, there is this user Luc19 whose recent edits don't seem reliable. I tried to revert the edit from the beginning but can't due to the following edits he did. (N0n3up (talk) 00:16, 8 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Hallo N0n3up, thanks for writing! Actually the Metropolitan city f Rome replaced since 1. of January the Province, so at a first glance I think that his edits are ok. I will take a deeper look now. Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 10:09, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Alessandro and sorry to bother you again, but there is this user AureaVis who keeps re-adding a seemingly photoshoped image of the Milan cathedral on the Milan article. And the user didn't post his/her reasons in doing so. (N0n3up (talk) 16:32, 12 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]
Hallo N0n3up, no problem, you are always welcome! I put Milan on my watchlist. BTW, I saw that this guy removed also the collage at Lecce substituting it with a particular of a bell tower...Quite strange indeed! Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 13:05, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

St. Peter's Basilica

You are well known for edit wars alessandro57. Your reputation for creating discord and stacking users in your favor is well known. And though it is a rediculous thing- to keep changing a page and create an edit war which you started arbitrarily, I will submit for the sake of Wikipedia and the page itself. It is clear that you have a self serving agenda. 04:27, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

February 2015

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount and can lead to a block, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. Cpetty9979 (talk) 04:30, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lavash

I don't think I have anything useful to add here. Just note what UNESCO itself says about entries in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:

Takes note that lavash is shared by communities in the region and beyond, recalls that inscription on the Representative List does not imply exclusivity and encourages the submitting State when implementing safeguarding measures to remain conscious of the element’s larger cultural context in the region;
Recalls the importance of using vocabulary appropriate to the spirit of the Convention and avoiding expressions such as ‘unique’ and ‘original’.

That is, just because lavash is important in Armenian culture, doesn't mean it isn't important in other cultures, and it certainly says nothing about the origins of lavash (a subject about which I have no informed opinion). --Macrakis (talk) 14:30, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vatican City voting edit

Hi, You undid my edit on voting in the Vatican City and I don't think your reasoning is correct. Your reasoning: "Vatican is a state ruled by an absolute monarch, and neither men nor women have the right to vote". This is false. See the Wikipedia page for Vatican City, it states "The politics of Vatican City takes place in an absolute elective monarchy" the key word being elective. The Cardinals do vote and elect the head of state, and Cardinals can only be men under the structure of the Catholic Church. Citizenship here is not the issue, since citizenship in Vatican City is not required for choosing it's head of state. The issue is that only men are allowed to vote in the election, while women are specifically banned. It is important to consider the Vatican City State as an internationally recognized independent state here. I would consider moving my edit to a different place in the page, but I do think it is important information that needs to be in the article and have already considered my placement carefully. I will wait for your response before reverting my edit. I appreciate you leaving your reason on my talk page so we can discuss what is best. -Jon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flessner89 (talk • contribs) 20:44, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Istanbul Pogrom

Dear Alessandro57 I am writing writing to you because I don't know how to access the talk page of the article on Uskudar, my only wish is that you remove the sender claim that women were raped. Because I was born in 1950 and have lived those terrible days. Yes Christians and Jews were attacked, their shops were lotted. But not their private homes. No women was raped. If the contributor insists o this claim he should please provide a reference. The only reference he is providing is the following:

Where in the book by The Mechanism of Catastrophe: The Turkish Pogrom of September 6-7, 1955, and the Destruction of the Greek Community of Istanbul, is there a mention of raped women? The contributor has an agenda. Just check his other contributions and you will see the pattern.

If this page is the wrong place for my comment please forward me to the right area. Thank you. 12:34, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Translations

Hi, Alex, how are you? I hope you didn't mind my changing "desecrated" to "deconsecrated" without discussion – I realised that this was just a small error in translation, and took the liberty of fixing it on the spot. Do feel free to ping me if you find yourself in difficulty with similarly little-used words.

Apropos of translation: I noticed that although Santi Simone e Giuda, Rome‎, is apparently translated fairly closely from the it.wp page, there isn't any attribution of the source on the talk page. So I wondered if you'd simply forgotten, or if you just didn't know that the source for an interwiki translation needs to be acknowledged? The {{translated page}} template is handy for this. Perhaps in due course you could check other translations you have made to be sure that they too have attribution? Regards as always, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:05, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

question about Roma

Hello Alessandro57,

The reason why I'm writing you is because I saw you made significant contributions to Italian-related pages and are of Italian ancestry yourself. I was wondering whether you could ask me with this historical question regarding Roma. Do you perhaps know what Empire or Kingdom ruled Rome in 1688? This would help me alot with perfectionizing a recent article of mine which I want to nominate for GA-status in the very near future.

Regards and thanks in advance,

Metropolitan cities

Mauro — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robur.q (talk • contribs) 12:17, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will answer on the Talk page of Italy. Alex2006 (talk) 12:46, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I partially agree with you: it is true that the metropolitan cities are the only official administrative subdivision, but they are quite inaccurate to describe the characteristics of a metropolitan area and they are misleading. For example the Commune of Bardonecchia is 85 km to Turin so it can not definitely considerated part of the metropolitan area of Turin as identified by the Osservatorio Demografico Territoriale del Piemonte of IRES Piemonte that is a an institution of the Regione . The metropolitan area has not an administrative signification, but has a demographic, social and economic significance. As the metropolitan city of Cagliari, actually there is only a bill that the Sardinian Regional Governament has presented few weeks ago. But the bill has to be discussed and (perhaps) approved by the Regional Parliament (the Consiglio Regionale). Do you intend finishing the translation of this article? In English usage the m goes after the number, the comma is a thousands separator not a decimal separator. Alessandro57, nearly there, "architectonic" is in the dictionary, but it's certainly not in common use, I had to go look it up. Would architecture be an adequate translation? Bazj (talk) 10:02, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Bazj, "architettonico" means in this case "used in architecture", i.e. construction industry. Moreover, I am afraid that your correction about Naples and Genoa is not right. In fact, Neapolitan refers here to the whole Kingdom of Naples, not just the city, and the same applies for Genoa (but not for Rome). Then I think that it is better to leave: Kingdom of Naples and Republic of Genoa. Cheeers.Alex2006 (talk) 16:00, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Great work, Alex. I've copyedited the first paragraph of the "History" a little, please check if you think it works. I didn't understand the principle for giving the characters' vital dates, when they're linked and the dates are available at their own article, so I removed some of them for consistency. Thank you for your efforts on bringing this article up to the standards that it takes for it to appear on the main page of Wikipedia in the "...did you know section". I've been involved in the DYK process, and so I know the time it takes and the coordination required between between editors...well it isn't always easy. So I appreciate your accomplishment. I hope you are encouraged to create even more content! Best Regards,

Thanks a lot! As Italian (and Roman :-)) it is not always easy to write in a decent English. BTW, copyediting is always most welcome! :-) Cheers, Alex2006 (talk) 14:22, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for your diligence and skill. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

Editor Bishonen submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate User Alessandro57, an amazing content contributor who has been diligently and skilfully improving the encyclopedia since 2006, especially in the field of architecture. A few examples of his work: Santi Simone e Giuda, Rome, Cuisine of Corsica, Cistern of Aspar, Florestano Di Fausto, Gül Mosque, Rospigliosi family. I picked these at random, really. He has written, and in a friendly and collaborative way maintains, lots of high-quality articles. The nomination was seconded by User:L235 and User:Yash!.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Congratulations! A much-deserved award to an outstanding editor. Bravo, Alex! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:09, 23 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Bishonen:, @Buster7: @L235: and @Yash!:, thanks a lot for this great honor! Actually I`d have preferred this award to be coupled with that of the bunny of the month, but it does not matter, I am happy also to celebrate alone... :-) As kleine dankeschön, I am dedicating to all of you my freshly baked last article, with the secret hope that someone takes the burden of copyediting it (being an Italian, I am aware that this is not an easy task). After all, aren`t we all active in this wonderful cooperative project? :-) Best, Alex2006 (talk) 17:03, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Switzerland

Your explanation for reverting my edit ("Redundant statement removed: if is not in the EU, it is clear that does not use the euro." -- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Switzerland&oldid=647584368&diff=prev) is not true. "The euro can also be found in other countries and regions which are neither part of the European Union nor the euro area.... Four such entities have adopted the euro as their official currency: the Principality of Monaco, the Republic of San Marino, the Vatican City State and lately also the Principality of Andorra." (source: http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/euro/world/outside_euro_area/index_en.htm) Therefor my statement is not redundant. Switzerland is similar to the countries mentioned above, in that it is geographically in Europe but not part of the EU, so one could be expected to wonder if it uses the Euro. I would appreciate if you would put back my work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tzadikv (talk • contribs) 02:12, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Amatriciano sauce (or is it Amatriciana?)

Thank you so much for wrifing or editing the article on this sauce. I'm making a birthday dinner for a friend of mine, and I make a terrific sauce for angel hair... But i looked up Pecorino Romano, and found the above arficle. I had never heard of the sauce or guanciale (the meat)... Sorry if I am mis-spelling things, my Italian is poor, and it is almost 1am. I can't wait to try to make this now. I am not certain i will be able to find the meat, as I live in Sacramento, but I will search and try to create this. I also appreciated other articles you have written, not about food. But tonight, I really am happy you shared your knowledge with those Italian food lovers in the U.S. My family comes from Italy (&.Ireland... Do you think I might have been raised Catholic, and loving fresh Italian food???). Sorry... I'm rambling now... Just thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. Take care.

VisualEditor update

This note is only delivered to English Wikipedia subscribers of the visual editor's newsletter.

The location of the visual editor's preference has been changed from the "Beta" tab to the "Editing" section of your preferences on this wiki. The setting now says Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta. This aligns en.wiki with almost all the other WMF wikis; it doesn’t mean the visual editor is complete, or that it is no longer “in beta phase” though.

This action has not changed anything else for editors: it still honours editors’ previous choices about having it on or off; logged-out users continue to only have access to wikitext; the “Edit” tab is still after the “Edit source” one. You can learn more at the visual editor’s talk page.

We don’t expect this to cause any glitches, but in case your account no longer has the settings that you want, please accept our apologies and correct it in the Editing tab of Special:Preferences. Thank you for your attention, Elitre (WMF) -16:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A question :)

Hello Alex, long time no talk! How are you doing? I hope fine? I had a brief question I wondered whether you could help me with. Its regarding Teresia Sampsonia; she was born, raised, and lived for quite some time as a Christian in the Safavid Empire, but migrated later to Rome, where she settled in Trastevere and became a member of the Santa Maria della Scala (where she got buried as well).

My question is now; should the category "Iranian emigrants to Italy", or something alike? I think Rome was not under the rule of Italy back then, but perhaps you could tell me more about this. Or any other categories that I might have perhaps omitted? :-)

Mafia edit-war

Remember a while back we were discussing IPAs for foreign words? Well, the Mafia article was one case I was contending. There's this unregistered user with an Italian IP address who keeps putting the IPAs for mafia in the lede. This guy has now broken the 3-revert rule. You and I agreed that pizza did not need IPAs in the lede - would you not think the same for mafia? Please resolve this dispute for me.Kurzon (talk) 20:45, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alessandro? Kurzon (talk) 19:26, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Kurzon:, and sorry for the delay in answering, but these days real life needs me. Of course I remember! This is Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Pronunciation#Pronunciation_of_English_words_of_foreign_origin the thread on the manual of style, and I see that the discussion continued. Reasoning analogically, since mafia is not a word with "complicated" pronunciation either, I would remove all the ipas too from the lead. Alex2006 (talk) 06:07, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ciao, potresti spiegare anche a me? Ho letto che sei italiano madrelingua, così almeno riuscirei a capire meglio anch'io. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.20.102.195 (talk) 07:18, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On wiki:en discussions should take place only in English, this is a guideline: writing in another language, you exclude most of the users. If you have not enough command of the English language, maybe you should edit on wiki:it. Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 09:45, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alessandro, you have to do something about this guy. He keeps reverting the Mafia article despite your adjudication. I recommend locking the article against unregistered users. Don't ban his IP because it keeps changing.Kurzon (talk) 10:21, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, since this is your talk page, I write in English to ask this: can you please answer on my current talk page (I have a dynamic IP, sorry) in Italian? (Alessandro573 undid my edit) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.20.14.131 (talk) 10:24, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He clearly means anywhere on Wikipedia you must write in English. This includes your Talk page.Kurzon (talk) 10:36, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does "anywhere" include this [6] too? I think a lot of people should be banned for this behaviour, then! But if i were you I would worry about my 4th rv (and ban) ^_^ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.20.14.131 (talk) 10:45, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A ban means nothing. I'm not a regular contributor anyway. Besides, it is you who risks being banned as you seem to like flouting Wikipedia protocol.Kurzon (talk) 11:00, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Yes, the IP user, who recently also created an obvious sock account, seems to think they can get away with any amount of edit warring and disruption simply because the IP changes. I've semiprotected Mafia for a couple of weeks. Bishonen | talk 18:33, 30 October 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Hello, I do not know why you have undone ALL my edits from Malta, I'm a student with a MA in Later Roman history and have never vandalised a page on Wikkipedia, and yet you undid all my updates as if I had vandalised the page?  The Emperor of Byzantium  18:19, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alex2006, Thank you =) sorry if I seemed a bit sharp with you, only I have noticed that honest edits have been taken down by other Admins as of late and feel that I have been forced to justify myself to every edit I do, ALL of which are honest! But thank you, your re-edit is an improvement on what I had originally edited, not least the quattuorviri iuri dicundo which I forgotten to suggest. Can I only add that there are a few small grammatical errors that I can attend to, nothing big, only they do make the current edit a little clumsy, such as 'island was' rather than 'islands were' and 'preaching the Christian' rather than 'preaching there the Christian' is that OK?  The Emperor of Byzantium  16:56, 02 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
