New! BCAD drive from Milhist

Can I invite you to particpate in our new assessment drive? It's strictly for experienced wiki-gnomes and has a degree of friendly competition built-in. It involves re-evaluating around 3500 Milhist B-Class articles to ensure they match our new criteria. As ever, we're offering a range of awards as our way of expressing our thanks. The drive doesn't start until 18:00 (UTC) on March 10 but you can sign up in advance here. It would be great if you can spare the time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My request for bureaucratship

protecting Philippines

I'm surprised I didn't get a warning when I semi-protected Philippines a few seconds after you did. Did you use a script to sneak in there that fast? —EncMstr 06:44, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: BCAD

Right now, my goal is to get my edit # back up. I had this big long period from July to February where I was almost completely inactive (partially because of school, partially because of lack of interest). I'm seriously behind. I'm past the time I need to be a "yeoman editor". however, I only have half of the edits necessary to do so. I'm in this because A: I love assessment drives B: My edit count needs to go up, and I think that this is a good method of doing so. Cheers! Cam (complaints/Discussion) 03:42, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

True. I'm not attempting a purely "edit count obsession". I'm just of the mindset of "heck, I haven't been active for nearly 6 months. An assessment drive is a great way to get back into things". I've been contributing continuously to my best articles, the Battle of Verrieres Ridge being the main one, throughout the last half of February.

Thanks for sending me the link to that little essay. Cam (Chat) 03:50, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

...for the kind words. I hate to leave, even for such a limited amount of time, becuase this is one of the few joys I have left in left, and is in itself a stress reliever. I can feel the weight of the acedemic year bearing down on me: my halucinations have returned with a vengance and my stomach no longer tolerates much more than noodle cups; at this rate I fear I may end up chugging pepto-bismal again just to make it through the days ahead with some semblence of health left. Despite all the effort I put into studying for my midterms both came back with grades rated as "D", and I fear that if I do not sacrafice time here to see to the problem soon my fate and Arizona’s fate are going to be as one. For my own peace of mind I decide to alot myself one more weekend here for peace before dismissing myself to focus on school; in this way, I hope that I can strengthen my resolve to pass. I left your name in the sandbox mention as a designated point of contact for the ship articles I work on, I hope thats OK. Above all, thank you for the understanding: I was expecting to be chewed out to some extent for bowing out to tend to matters related to my education, however you and Roger have been vary understanding on the matter. That means a lot to me. TomStar81 (Talk) 07:28, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The depressing part (for me) is that I used to be an all A honor role student, and refused to accept grades like C's and D's, but somewhere around the seventh grade I just lost that lovin feelin toward school. Now its all I can do just to pay attention sometimes. Everytime I stare in the mirror part of me always asks "what the hell happened to you?" and the other part always asked "why do still insist on trying?". I have to find answeres to these questions. BTW: Don;t sacrafice your school year for my sake, if you need to bow out then please do so before things get worse. No time like the present to pounce on a potential problem :) TomStar81 (Talk) 07:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your review of the article. I think I've added the appropriate references that will allow it to pass as a GA, now. Also, I noticed in the review you wrote it was "reasonably well written". Do you have any suggestions on how to make it "well written"? I'd like to take this all the way to FA status, so any further help you have would be appreciated. Thanks -- Matthew | talk | Contribs 23:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am working on the GA

I am Working on the GA pass. This is the first time I have reviewed. I cut&pasted from the GA page and it came out that way. Don't know why. Please let me do it so I can learn. Thankyou.--Hfarmer (talk) 23:15, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About Rick Perry

Actually I did say something about it. I said two things about it. AND I said I would remove the section in one week if no one disagreed and it has been over a month. That whole section is extremely POV. We don't need all that stuff at the end about how people responded to what he said. The first part can stand on its own. That way we allow the reader to make the judgment call as to whether they agree or disagree with Perry's stance. -Brad Kgj08 (talk) 23:19, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandals

Thanks a lot for your efforts to revert vandalism and warn the vandals. Take care.. -Fnlayson (talk) 03:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ima Hogg

Hey there, I've been watching the article evolve. I was concerned early on with the "Legacy" paragraph being somewhat insulting, but it looks like they toned it down. I think the infobox would work fine in the article. Postoak (talk) 01:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I was surprised by the "infobox lovers coming out of the woodwork" comment. Aren't we supposed to WP:AGF? :) Oh well. Postoak (talk) 02:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Error on WT:MILHIST

When I took a look at your statistics, I noticed when checking the hard-link to the statistics, instead of World War I for 37th place overall, the article that is truly in that position is World War II. You may need to correct the table for accuracy. -MBK004 22:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, WWI is 67th, with WWII 37, so there is an additional article that needs to be added to the table. -MBK004 01:37, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks MBK004. That's correct. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 01:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and happy to help. -MBK004 01:51, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, could you provide me with the full list that you mentioned in your original post. I'd like to take a look, but don't want to scroll through 5000 article names. Preferably on a sub-page created by you if possible? -MBK004 04:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be creating a subpage. Meanwhile, I've sent you the notepad file by email. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 04:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carolyn Farb

Hello, I'm having a minor disagreement at Carolyn Farb and would appreciate your input to settle the matter. I was going to take it to WP:Third Opinion but it looks like it may not qualify for resolution. Thanks for your help, Postoak (talk) 02:24, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your assistance, this should help. I will cease all edits to the article until consensus is reached so I don't accidentally violate 3RR Postoak (talk) 02:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I added a WP:BLP banner on the page because the paragraph was restored. I removed the paragraph according to policy, but will leave the warning for a while. Thanks, Postoak (talk) 20:26, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello MBK004. Recently you asked for protection of Neoclassical (Dark Wave) at WP:RPP due to vandalism by Breathtaker socks. Breathtaker's activities are being discussed here at ANI. If you have special knowledge you might want to comment in that thread. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 02:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply at ANI. Another editor appears to have edited your comment at WP:RPP with a strikeout after the event; otherwise I would not have responded there. Sorry for misreading the sequence of events. I'll not believe any strikeouts I see on that noticeboard in the future! EdJohnston (talk) 04:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The former was recently permanently blocked, and the latter (just blocked for 12 hours) was just making identical edits. Don't know if there's anything that can be done, but thought an admin like yourself might. - Special-T (talk) 03:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I was just filling you in on the identical editing pattern I had noticed in case there was some further action that needed to be taken. Happy vandal whacking. - Special-T (talk) 11:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Query

Hi. I'm a newbie to the whole editing wikipedia, and made one of my first edits yesterday. Can I ask what was wrong with correcting the info box on Lucy Pinder's page, that prompted you to change it? why has it been corrected to american english rather than british english?

many thanks

Need help

Sorry. I just installed Friendly and I'm trying to figure out how to get it to work. I did not mean to put that template on the Friendly page. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Today is Day#1 for me using FoxFire. I'm trying to get the hang of it (and the different feel of the skin) because I wanted to install Friendly for Welcoming Newcomers. Friendly isn't compatible with IE, which is what I'm used to using. I thought I installed Friendly, but didn't see any links at first. I was on the Friendly page, reading what to do, and finally saw new links in my preferences section. I thought they were for Friendly; but obviously, they weren't. Again, I apologize for being a newby with both FoxFire and the "possible deletion" template... which isn't what I was thought I had installed, . and, as you saw, I undid my edit as soon as I saw what I did. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, in the time it took me to type the above, I have new links in my Views section, and one is welcome. I don't know why it lagged behind the others. In any case, I'll be careful. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:52, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Email

Actually, I haven't really thought of this at all, except that I got an obscene email from a few people who were already banned so it didn't make any difference. As to whether people are going to know if an email is real or not, I dónt know. I can remember a few arbcom cases where people tried citing private emails from sting operations or double dealing and stuff and nobody wanted to guess as to whether the emails were real anyway. Once a sockpuppeteer mucked up and emailed my from both accounts with the same email, so I blocked them without a checkuser. Nobody complained, but that was likely because nobody liked that gụy I suppose the thing to do is to just bring it to ANI for each case. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:18, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Help requested

If it's anything serious, the best course of action is probably to forward it to the Committee; juvenile spamming and such, on the other hand, can generally be dealt with by blocking email, and doing so shouldn't really be controversial. Kirill 15:36, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice job on "Miss Ima"!
To all of the excellent editors who were part of the Karanacs-led collaboration to bring Ima Hogg to featured status, it was a pleasure working with you on such a fine article about a great lady. Thank you so much for your contribution to this fun collaboration.

Montana class battleship

Well, the ultimate destination will be FAC, but at the moment I am seeking more input on how to improve the article via peer review. So far five things have been identified that need addressed, among them the fact that I lack non breaking spaces for numerical measurements. Rest assured though, GAN is my next stop when the peer review closes :) TomStar81 (Talk) 06:01, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On point 1: good idea. On point 2: good luck. I've been digging through library records on and off line and have yet to any text for the bill. If you can do it I will be impressed. TomStar81 (Talk) 06:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet, I still have some unchecked UTEP library resources to review first. I hadn't considered a FOIA petition, although I am certainly open to filing one if all else fails. BTW: the Two Ocean Navy bill is in the same red link boat, if you happen to find anything about that while looking into the Seconf Vinson Act feel free to fire up that article. TomStar81 (Talk) 06:35, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

infobox conversion

Hey MBK,

I wanted to give you a quick heads up on something. Since it's safe to assume that any article that has {{Infobox Ship}} needs an infobox upgrade, I'm taking the {{newinfobox}} templates off of the talk pages of those articles. Along with avoiding the kind of confusion you mentioned earlier, this will help us get a better count of how many conversions -- aside from the {{Infobox Ship}} remain to be done.

There's light at the end of the tunnel with respect to {{Infobox Ship}}. I've converted 3282 of 'em in about the last three days. About -14 remain to be done.

Cheers, HausTalk 14:54, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan (Katie Price)

Sorry about that edit to the Jordan (Katie Price) article. I saw that one of the editors had made a number of vandalism edits and went back in the history to grab what I thought was the last "good" edit. While I was doing that, you must have already reverted the vandalism and then I just chose the wrong version of the article. I made a poor choice of article versions but wasn't intentionally vandalizing the article. I think if you look at my edit history, you'll see I'm not a vandal. Lucy Pinder

Hi there

I see you recently were making some changes to this page, in particular the pictures used. I have actually been trying to get some advice on uploading pics, because for the life of me, i cant figure out what is and isnt acceptable as an upload. there is SO much information on the FAQ pages, and essentially i have a problem with the licensing aspect. I have access to several more "encyclopaedic" images of Lucy, rather than the current one used for the article, which I feel are more appropriate. I don't think it is entirely necessary to have her posing, do you?

whats your position on this, and can you help?δ²(Talk to me!) 16:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
