"The Way I Are"

"The Way I Are" is the second single from Timbaland's second album, Timbaland Presents Shock Value. The song features R&B singer Keri Hilson and rapper D.O.E., both of whom are signed to Timbaland's Mosley Music Group label. It will be featured in the 2K Sports baseball video game, The Bigs.[citation needed] It was released digitally worldwide in May 2007. It is the current number one single in the UK and also ended fellow hip-hop star Rihanna's 10-weeks at the top.

The music video for the song was shot in the City of Salford in Greater Manchester, UK on May 18 2007. It was directed by Shane Drake.[1] Drake said about the video:

"I like to tell stories with my videos-- and Timbaland’s new video is going to be unlike any other. Utilizing the tools of incendiary cinematography and fierce lighting schemes, I plan to sculpt an edgy masterpiece, oozing with style and impact. With each rhythmic pulse and beat we will time crafty edits, sharp as tacks and smooth as steel. This video is going to be an artistic expression of Timbaland's music. As an added element of force and velocity, we will follow Timbaland as he cruises around the city. From the colours, to the wardrobe-- to the edits, we will craft a slick masterpiece that defies genre and truly defines cool."[1]

The video version[2] includes an extra verse from Timbaland's brother Sebastian this verse was added to 'pad out' the song as on the album the song has a elongated period of time in which nothing but the beat is heard, this is obviously impractical for a music video and was subsequently extended. Though unusual for American music video productions, the video world premiered and received its first official airing on June 15 on the German music television channel VIVA.

The song interpolates the melody from Salt 'N' Pepa's early hit "Push It".

On the issue date of June 16 2007, the single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 78 and has thus far peaked at number four.[3]

This song was also featured in a 2007 McDonald's commercial, advertising the Double Quarter Pounder, and was featured in the new Cloverfield teaser trailer.

A remix of the song was produced by Danish band Nephew. Only the vocals from the original song are the same, the Danish band having completely redone the song. Nephew frontman Simon Kvamm also delivers new vocals for the song, which will be included on the single release.[4]

The video also includes 3 football players.

In the UK 'The Way I Are' knocked off Rihanna's 'Umbrella' off the top spot after she held it for an amazing 10 weeks.
