There's misinformation in the Girls' Generation wikipedia page
Jessica did not depart from the group, she was removed from the group. Balmybuttons (talk) 06:36, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
She departed from the group having been dismissed. In the article it says, "member Jessica announced that she had been dismissed from the group". Pabsoluterince (talk) 12:00, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Departing means leaving on your own will, Jessica did not depart, she was removed. The other 8 had forced her out and the company had no choice but to comply as it was an 8 vs 1 situation. To say she 'departed' is disingenuous. Balmybuttons (talk) 08:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I am glad we could finish this discussion with a well received consensus here! Pabsoluterince (talk) 11:18, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jessica says she was forced out, SME maintains she left voluntarily, and both are mentioned in the WSJ reference in the article. It's not Wikipedia's job to pick sides in that argument, using "dismissal" would clearly lend more credence to Jessica's claim, whereas "departure" is more neutral. DragonFury (talk) 11:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oki-doki. But the way that the paragraph reads currently is as though SM Entertainment confirms that Jessica was indeed dismissed. Pabsoluterince (talk) 11:38, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, specifically the part that read "SM Entertainment confirmed this" is not correct. Perhaps it's better to change that to "SM Entertainment confirmed her departure, stating Jessica...". DragonFury (talk) 11:48, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yeah that's better. It doesn't fully detail the discrepancies in stories. Why would even need to include the agency's confirmation, if not to attribute a counter-claim. Pabsoluterince (talk) 12:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not really picking sides, it's just telling the truth. Had Jessica been lying, she would've been sued to death by now. SM's statement that they'd come to an agreement on removing her from the group due to schedule conflict is false since Jessica was present for every single group activity lined up for that and the previous month which can be fact-checked. It was a lie spread by them and their insiders to defame Jessica and help the others save face by claiming Jessica had been uncommitted to the group.
