People reading this page don't need to be told Randi's claims are ad hominem attacks, mainly because it's not relevant, but also because it's a matter of opinion (albeit, Randi can be an ass)

Steven Macon Greer (June 28, 1955) is an American physician, UFO enthusiast, and conspiracy theorist. Greer is the founder of the Disclosure Project the Advanced Energy Research Organization (AERO) [1]. The later aims to reproduce claimed free energy devices Greer says were produced in secret government projects.

Greer is also a claimed contactee,[2] and coined the term "close encounter of the fifth kind" to describe ongoing contact with extraterrestrials,[3]

A skeptical profile of Greer and his work appeared in Alex Heard's 1999 book Apocalypse Pretty Soon. James Randi has also debunked Greer's claims, noting that Greer uses the credentials of claimed contactees as the basis of his arguments, rather than providing actual evidence.[4].

Greer is a former chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, North Carolina, and a lifetime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.[5] He and his wife Emily have four daughters and reside in the Charlottesville, Virginia area. [5]

Commercial activities

In addition to the Disclosure Project, Greer hosts 'Ambassador to the Universe' and 'Cosmic Consciousness' training sessions at his ranch. Influenced by Transcendental Meditation, Greer promises to teach mediation techniques that allow attendees to 'psychically contact aliens' and summon aliens and their craft at will. The cost for these programs is $995, in addition to mandatory purchases of various books by Greer. Neither Greer nor any of his students have produced evidence of success. Although Greer claims to have photo and video evidence of summoned aliens, he has not provided these for public examination.

Greer's claims are frequently contradictory: in a recorded talk, he says "ET craft" travel through space faster than the speed of light, taking days to months to reach their destinations, and yet he claims these crafts can be "vectored" to one of his training sessions within two hours. ET talk

Greer's interest in ufology dates to childhood, when he claims he saw a 'disc-shaped craft'. In 1993, Greer founded the Disclosure Project, which claims a wide-ranging conspiracy by the governments of the United States and other nations to cover up visits by UFO aliens and continued monitoring by these aliens, and to suppress unspecified alien technologies, including free energy (see free energy suppression).

Greer, with the assistance of other claimed 'contactees', who have been selected for previous military or government employment[6], has given numerous speeches and interviews at ufology conferences and other venues, attempting to muster support for 'free and open' Congressional hearings on UFOs, 'extraterrestrial visitation', and other aspects of the alleged conspiracy. The Disclosure Project has not obtained significant support outside of the community of UFO enthusiasts.
