List of episodes

"Nippy" is the tenth episode of the sixth season of Better Call Saul, the spin-off television series of Breaking Bad. It was directed by Michelle MacLaren and written by Alison Tatlock. The episode aired on July 25, 2022, on AMC and AMC+. In several countries outside of the United States and Canada, the episode premiered on Netflix the following day.

Plot

In a flashforward to Omaha, Nebraska, after a trip to the grocery store, an elderly woman named Marion gets her electric wheelchair stuck on a snowy sidewalk. At the same time Jimmy McGill (under the guise of Gene Takavic), is posting flyers for his lost dog Nippy. While she is immobile Gene offers his assistance to take her home. Marion is revealed to be the mother of the cab driver Jeff, who previously recognized Gene as Saul Goodman.[1] Jeff arrives home and asks Gene of his motives, and Gene offers Jeff a chance to scam the local mall.

Gene begins his preparation for his scheme. He befriends security guard Frank by bringing him rolls from Cinnabon and talking about Nebraska Cornhuskers football, and tracks the length for him to eat while disregarding the security cameras. He recreates the dimensions of one of the department stores and choreographs an efficient way for Jeff to maximize his takings. He also manages to sneak a box into the loading dock to stash the loot. When the robbery is set into motion, Jeff accidentally trips on a slippery floor and disrupts the timing of the scheme. However, Gene buys time by faking a depressive episode to divert Frank's attention. The robbery ends up being successful, and Jeff hides in the bathroom overnight.

As Gene and Jeff relish over the con's success, Gene warns Jeff of the multitude of laws that he has broken in their scheme, and says that if Jeff ever reveals his true identity, then Gene will report him as well. Gene tells Jeff never to cross paths with him again. As Gene returns to the mall, he finds a Saul Goodman-style suit in the department store he just robbed but leaves without purchasing it.

Production

Bob Odenkirk is the only actor listed in the starring credits. This episode is the first of season 6 to not follow the "X and Y" naming scheme. The entire episode is shot in black and white and is the first episode to take place completely after Breaking Bad.
