    Mediawiki:Spam-blacklist is meant to be used by the spam blacklist extension. Unlike the meta spam blacklist, this blacklist affects pages on the English Wikipedia only. Any administrator may edit the spam blacklist. See Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for more information about the spam blacklist.

    Instructions for editors

    There are 4 sections for posting comments below. Please make comments in the appropriate section. These links take you to the appropriate section:

    1. Proposed additions
    2. Proposed removals
    3. Troubleshooting and problems
    4. Discussion

    Each section has a message box with instructions. In addition, please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment.

    Completed requests are archived. Additions and removals are logged, reasons for blacklisting can be found there.

    Addition of the templates {{Link summary}} (for domains), {{IP summary}} (for IP editors) and {{User summary}} (for users with account) results in the COIBot reports to be refreshed. See User:COIBot for more information on the reports.

    Instructions for admins
    Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably read this first, thanks.
    If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.

    Please consider using Special:BlockedExternalDomains instead, powered by the AbuseFilter extension. This is faster and more easily searchable, though only supports whole domains and not whitelisting.

    1. Does the site have any validity to the project?
    2. Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot, XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
    3. Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages.)
    4. Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regular expressions — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
    5. Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
    6. Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number – 836700716 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

    healthguideinfo.com

    Being spammed by several IPs etc. Not a MEDRS ref, just spam. Jytdog (talk) 18:23, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Jytdog: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Guy (Help!) 07:56, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    thatssoft.com

    Many IPs keeps adding links to this website to film pages, repeating linking, examples: [1] [2] [3]. 2A02:C7F:963F:BA00:C51:C3B4:3399:F0B3 (talk) 11:04, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    appstar.net.in

    spammed by

    Repeated after final warning (for 43.225.3.202). Obvious SEO activity for Indian app site (a few other sites are also involved, but less often for now). GermanJoe (talk) 07:16, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    livesportsforyou.com

    spammed by

    See WP:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Boxinglive. Account is presently blocked, but there's evidently more accounts preparing to continue the spam on the horizon. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 22:26, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Let's wait and see if there are further incidents. The spammer is blocked, and the 2018 Masters Tournament article has been semi-protected against new spammers appearing. We can similarly protect other articles also. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:20, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Jéské Couriano and Anachronist: why wait, 5 spammers of which 4 blocked is not enough? plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:17, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Poking the users. --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:39, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Didn't realize that many spammers had cropped up. OK, blacklisting is fine then. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:04, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Jéské Couriano and Anachronist: This is not related to this/and this stuff, right? We had a spammer that was hitting wrestling type articles with live tv links, adding them to the very top. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:21, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    I doubt the first one is related because the link isn't the same as what's being discussed here, but the second one, maybe. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:28, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    All I know is what was discussed at the AN/I thread. That said, I agree with Anachronist that the second one could be a mirror. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 06:21, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Zzyzx11: please report them here (put the full link without http:// into {{BLRequestLink}} ; use 'link=' if displaying breaks). I will pull the trigger as soon as I seem them appear. Spammers are persistent, it is how they make money. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:11, 12 April 2018 (UTC) (sigh, proper ping: @Zzyzx11: --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:12, 12 April 2018 (UTC))[reply]

    Clearly intentional blog spam (also socking, but I won't waste volunteer time with a SPI for single-usage accounts). Various previous warnings and 1 block. GermanJoe (talk) 15:47, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    atheistrepublic.org et al

    After a request from User:Johnuniq for blocking an editor regarding WP:UNID LTA. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:24, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • I think those domains are genuine and there is no reason to blacklist them. The LTA's strategy is to make a throw-away domain, in this case atheistrepublic.org which has a plausible name, and which is similar to a genuine target. The throw-away domain redirects to the genuine target for a month or so while it is added to Wikipedia articles. Later, the domain redirect can be changed to a site controlled by the LTA. Johnuniq (talk) 08:55, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Dirk Beetstra: The domain to blacklist would be atheistrepublic.org because that is what the spammer wants to add (when I commented earlier, the first link above was atheistrepublic.com). youtube.com/c/AtheistRepublic is a valid page unrelated to the spammer, although I'm not saying it should be used in an article. I think the same is true of facebook.com/AtheistRepublic but I'm not willing to do what be needed to view that page. The spammer is not trying to promote the atheistrepublic pages; the strategy is to use them as valid targets so atheistrepublic.org would be allowed to remain in articles, then later change it to a page controlled by the spammer. Blacklisting is a problem with this LTA because he is quite happy to make lots of domains possibly with entirely different topics, so the next one might have nothing to do with atheists. Monitoring with RBI may be the best we can do. However, how to deal with it here is best left up to you. Johnuniq (talk) 10:55, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Johnuniq: I saw the facebook and youtube being added as well .. as if they are trying. It is fine to blacklist the .org (the .com was a mistake) .. let them make more and other domains, it will get tiresome for them at some point. Then I don't have a problem with an edit filter as an alternative either .. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:00, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Johnuniq: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Guy (Help!) 07:52, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Beetstra: don't we normally global-blacklist UD? Guy (Help!) 07:54, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @JzG: This editor is using a redirect site - which are cheap .. sometimes it is more effective to RBI than to block - they may return with similar domains and it becomes a witchhunt. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:34, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    ijsmi.com

    Systematic cite spam by various single-usage and SPA accounts. The added "journal" is a 1-person website with no information about the author. The given DOI for these references is also erroneous (and possibly fake). Despite its misleading fancy title, this is not a journal but a blog by a self-publishing author. The content is sold for 10-33 bucks via Amazon. GermanJoe (talk) 09:35, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    justjared.com

    Not a spam website nor a redirection website. It is a news website that includes interviews.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Vargo2 (talk • contribs)

    webcitation.org

    This is an internet archive similar to the wayback machine and is used in tens of thousands of articles.No idea why its been blacklisted, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 10:04, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Atlantic306: I don't see it blacklisted, and it appears to be whitelisted on my bots (so I can't get a report). Also, you have not tripped the spam-blacklist filter with anything regarding webcitation.org. Can you please specify what you did that makes you think it is blacklisted? econlib.org

    This seems to have been caught in an effort to stop SEO spamming (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist&oldid=769671529#Immigration_law_refspam_round_3), but the Liberty Fund doesn't fit the profile, and it provides access to original content (articles, interviews, etc).— Preceding unsigned comment added by Icebraining (talk • contribs)

    @Icebraining: no Declined - there is a clear link between the clear paid-editor and Liberty Fund. Most of the material is replaceable. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:27, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello, i have tried to add website url of El Toro to the their Wikipedia page located at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Toro_(IP_targeting_provider). It showing an error, that's why i came here. I'd like to add this eltoro.com as a official website in the infobox. Though, i have added the link, which is not clickable. Is there anything you can help? 202.136.88.29 (talk)

    no Declined,  Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain - you will need to provide a /about or something similar there, the top domain 'eltoro.com' is unlikely going to be whitelisted (as it would negate any blacklisting). --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:46, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Understood, thanks. Wondering can we use eltoro.com/people/ Mr. Dirk Beetstra? 202.136.88.29 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 14:06, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    eltoro.com/people/ or eltoro.com/ad-tech/ as official url of their Wikipedia page

    Applying correct format. A discussed earlier, can we whitelist eltoro.com/people/ or eltoro.com/ad-tech/ for their Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Toro_(IP_targeting_provider) Thanks.202.136.88.29 (talk) 12:31, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Troubleshooting and problems

    Logging / COIBot Instructions

    Blacklist logging

    Full instructions for admins

    Quick reference

    For Spam reports or requests originating from this page, use template {{/request|0#section_name}}

    • {{/request|213416274#Section_name}}
    • Insert the oldid 213416274 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
    • Use within the entry log here.

    For Spam reports or requests originating from Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam use template {{WPSPAM|0#section_name}}

    • {{WPSPAM|182725895#Section_name}}
    • Insert the oldid 182725895 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
    • Use within the entry log here.
    Note: If you do not log your entries, it may be removed if someone appeals the entry and no valid reasons can be found.

    Addition to the COIBot reports

    The lower list in the COIBot reports now have after each link four numbers between brackets (e.g. "www.example.com (0, 0, 0, 0)"):

    1. first number, how many links did this user add (is the same after each link)
    2. second number, how many times did this link get added to wikipedia (for as far as the linkwatcher database goes back)
    3. third number, how many times did this user add this link
    4. fourth number, to how many different wikipedia did this user add this link.

    If the third number or the fourth number are high with respect to the first or the second, then that means that the user has at least a preference for using that link. Be careful with other statistics from these numbers (e.g. good user who adds a lot of links). If there are more statistics that would be useful, please notify me, and I will have a look if I can get the info out of the database and report it. This data is available in real-time on IRC.

    Poking COIBot

    When adding {{LinkSummary}}, {{UserSummary}} and/or {{IPSummary}} templates to WT:WPSPAM, WT:SBL, WT:SWL and User:COIBot/Poke (the latter for privileged editors) COIBot will generate linkreports for the domains, and userreports for users and IPs.
