The Ron Paul misunderstanding was cleared up in Politico. The TruthDig article cited anonymous sources from RT aimed at discrediting Wahl. The neocon plot was debunked in an article in Slate.

RT, RT's editor-in-chief [[Margarita Simonyan]] and Liz Wahl's collegues claimed that this scandal was a self-promotional publicity stunt by a person, who was a mere news anchor, with very little political views of her own, with problems at RT (Liz Wahl wanted a salary raise, RT didn't agree and Liz Wahl staged a temporary strike) and depressed because of the lack of job prospects (Liz Wahl tried to apply for a job at another TV channel, but wasn't able to get in).

Subsequently [[Truthdig]] did an investigative report and argued that Wahl's resignation was staged in coordination with members of an American neo-conservative organization [[Foreign Policy Initiative]], [[Jamie Kirchick]] in particular, in attempt to smear RT channel. <ref>[http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/how_cold_war-hungry_neocons_stage_managed_liz_wahls_resignation_20140319 How Cold War-Hungry Neocons Stage Managed RT Anchor Liz Wahl’s Resignation | Truthdig | 19.03.2014]</ref> <ref>[http://rt.com/usa/liz-whal-neocons-twitter-101/ Brainwash level - ‘neocons’: Staged Liz Wahl Psy-Op exposure explodes on Twitter]</ref> According to Truthdig, the FPI twitted about Wahl's resignation 25 minutes before she announced it on the air. Liz Wahl is an American journalist.[1][2][3][4]

On 6th March, 2014, she triggered comment when she went off script, on air, and resigned her job, while denouncing her employer, RT, for its allegedly distorted coverage of Russia's intervention in Crimea. She also claimed that RT censored her interview with Ron Paul.

RT, RT's editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and Liz Wahl's collegues claimed that this scandal was a self-promotional publicity stunt by a person.

Wahl's grandparents were Hungarian refugees from the Soviet bloc, who fled the Soviet suppression of the Hungarian Uprising.[5] She advanced their experiences as one of her triggers for her denunciation.

Following her resignation Wahl appeared on the three major American cable news outlets CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and was invited and interviewed by The View, Anderson Cooper and Stephen Colbert.[6][7]

Barbara Walters also voiced criticism of Wahl, saying she should not be treated like a hero.[8][9] Later she changed her mind relating to Wahl and praised her.[10]
