The following is a list of episodes, each accompanied by a brief synopsis, for the British television sitcom Keeping Up Appearances.

Summary of Episode details

Original Airdates: first aired on 29 October 1990 and ended on 25 December 1995.
Original network: BBC1
Episodes: 44 main episodes, 30 minutes long unless otherwise stated.

The two lead characters of Keeping Up Appearances are Hyacinth and Richard Bucket, who appear in all forty-four episodes, along with sisters Daisy and Rose and Hyacinth's brother-in-law Onslow. The Buckets’ neighbour Liz appears in all episodes except "Hyacinth Tees Off", while her brother Emmet appears in all episodes from Series Two apart from "Hyacinth Tees Off" and "The Rolls Royce". The Major features in the first two series, and Hyacinth's postman Michael, appears sporadically throughout the series from series Two onwards. Other characters such as the Vicar and his wife appear sporadically throughout the whole series, while Hyacinth's sister Violet and her husband Bruce appear only as main characters in Series Five. Hyacinth's "Daddy" is only rarely seen.

Daddy's Accident	29 October	Hyacinth goes to visit Daddy in hospital after he gets injured chasing after the milk woman naked on his bike. Guest starring Bruce Alexander.
The New Vicar	5 November	Hyacinth is determined to create the perfect impression when inviting the new Vicar for “tea and light refreshments”. However her hopes come crashing down on her when Onslow and Daisy turn up with the news Daddy has been kidnapped by gypsy. Rose threatens to commit suicide.
Stately Home	12 November	Hyacinth and Richard visit a stately home where Hyacinth hopes to meet a member of the aristocratic family. However she is horrified when Onslow, Daisy and Rose turn up unexpectedly. Guest starring Michael Bilton.
The Charity Shop	19 November	It is Liz and Hyacinth's day to help Councillor Mrs Nugent at the charity shop, and on the way there Hyacinth has to make a visit to Onslow’s and Daisy's to remove a woman (played by Gretchen Franklin) from Daddy's room. Guest starring Denis Bond and Norman Lovett.
Daisy's Toy boy	26 November	In an attempt to make Onslow jealous, Daisy finds herself a toyboy (played by Jonny Lee Miller); unfortunately for Hyacinth, they turn up at the Church Hall where Hyacinth is preparing food.
The Christening	3 December	Daisy’s and Onslow’s granddaughter Kylie is getting christened, but Hyacinth is unimpressed to learn that the father will not be attending. The day quickly turns into a catastrophe when Hyacinth and Richard are forced to come to the rescue of the baby's mother Stephanie, whose mode of transport has broken down. Guest starring Gerald Sim.

Series Two (1991)

A Strange Man	1 September	Hyacinth is shocked to see a strange man wearing only a towel emerge from Elizabeth's house. Meanwhile Daddy has gone missing.
Driving Mrs Fortescue	8 September	Hyacinth and Richard drive a Mrs Fortescue into town, however Hyacinth's plans to impress are once more sabotaged when Daisy and Rose also catch a lift.
The Candlelight Supper	15 September	Hyacinth wants to impress Emmet with her musical talents at an elaborate Candlelight supper. However Hyacinth's plans backfire when love-troubled Rose turns up, followed by two aggressive gentleman.
Hyacinth Tees Off	22 September	The Major invites the Buckets for a golfing weekend at a hotel. All is well until Onslow and Daisy turn up unexpectedly to collect Rose after a raunchy weekend. Added to Hyacinth’s dilemma are the amorous intentions of the Major.
Problems with Relatives	29 September	Hyacinth's brother-in-law Bruce is stuck up a tree, Daddy goes to the register office to be married and Emmett meets Daisy, Onslow and Rose, to Hyacinth’s utter horror.
Onslow's Birthday	6 October	Hyacinth is dreading an invite to Onslow's birthday party, but changes her mind when finding out she and Richard will be picked up by Rose's wealthy Greek boyfriend. However things do not go to plan when the Greek's car is replaced with a hearse.
Singing for Emmet	13 October	Richard is offered early retirement and thus ponders over the possibility of having to spend twenty four hours a day with Hyacinth. Emmett is enraged when Hyacinth ends up rehearsing a performance for the old people at the Church Hall with him, and a tranquilised Rose arrives at the scene wanting to become a nun.
The Toy Store	20 October	Senile Daddy has ended up at the toy store and has been "improving" a few toys, thus Hyacinth and Richard have to solve the problem while simultaneously saving face.
Three Piece Suite	27 October	Hyacinth has ordered an expensive new three-piece suite and is determined for the delivery to run like clockwork. She has even gone to the effort of road signs indicating where she wants the van to park. However her plans crumble as the van crashes on the way.
Picnic for Daddy	3 November	Hyacinth arranges a picnic for Daddy, but things go awry when the senile old man decides to test-drive the Buckets' car.

Christmas Special (1991)

Father Christmas Suit	25 December	Hyacinth has bought Richard a Father Christmas outfit for him to wear when distributing gifts to the old people at the Church Hall. Against his will Richard puts on the outfit, but after having one too many sherries with Emmett he is unable to fulfil the deed; hence Elizabeth puts on the costume and pretends to be Richard.

Violet's Country Cottage	20 September	Hyacinth borrows Violet's and Bruce’s luxury cottage for the weekend and prepares a barbecue. However in an attempt to impress lady from the manor house Bunty, Hyacinth gets slightly carried away with the summer spirit. Meanwhile Richard is in search for Bunty’s dog Zoe.
How to Go on Holiday without Really Trying	27 September	Hyacinth’s jealousy gets the better of her when hearing about a neighbour's luxury holiday, resulting in her attempting to impress by pretending to go on holiday herself. Meanwhile Onslow arrives at the Buckets' to take Richard away from the demands of life with the leading lady.
Richard's New Hobby	4 October	Hyacinth finds Richard a hobby involving filming and boasts to the neighbours he is a film maker, much to the liking of Councillor Mrs Nugent.
The Art Exhibition	11 October	Hyacinth's preparations for visiting an art exhibition are thrown off course when Daddy goes off to join the Foreign Legion. Problems are exacerbated further when Rose's and her gentleman friend's raunchy antics are overheard on loud speakers.
What to Wear When Yachting	18 October	Hyacinth and Richard head off on a yachting weekend. However Hyacinth is disappointed with the yacht she has been appointed and decides that it be moved. But the Buckets soon lose control of the boat, and events decend into disaster.

Series Four (1993)

A Job for Richard	5 September	Hyacinth’s attempts to keep Richard occupied in his years of retirement continue. Now she has found him an executive job in frozen foods, and to impress the manager of the company she contrives a plan involving Onslow and golf.
Rural Retreat	12 September	Hyacinth wants “a little place in the country”, however her heart is not set on little. An old farmer with a speech impediment causes much difficulty for Hyacinth when out looking.
A Celebrity for the Barbecue	19 September	For Hyacinth’s summer entertaining she has decided to host an elaborate indoor barbecue. In an attempt to compete with the Barker-Finchess she is determined to get a celebrity to attend. Meanwhile Rose gives Daisy a makeover.
The Commodore	26 September	Hyacinth switches on her sailing persona when volunteering to collect the guest speaking Commodore from a train station. However Richard gets clamped and they cannot find him, despit their best efforts.
Looking for Property	3 October	Richard panics when leaving Hyacinth to browse country property without him, as he collects Daddy from a police station. But Hyacinth finally decides on a property.
Please Mind Your Head	10 October	Hyacinth and Richard spend time in their very small apartment in the countryside. Meanwhile at Hyacinth’s neighbourhood: the neighbours, the postman and especially Emmett all enjoy a weekend without Hyacinth. However Emmett’s happiness is short-lived when being invited to Hyacinth’s new home.
Let There Be Light	17 October	It is the "bring and buy" sale at the Church hall and the Chruch goers are in for a shock as Hyacinth has volunteered Richard to fix the Church hall electrics. Meanwhile Onslow, Daisy, and Rose turn up with a Daddy believing he is back in the war.

Christmas Specials (1993 & 1994)

Sea Fever	26 December	60 minutes	Hyacinth and Richard prepare for their luxury stay on the QE2, however traffic, a field and too much luggage result in a disastrous start to a holiday that only gets much worse when Hyacinth has reason to believe Onslow and Daisy have stowed-away. Guest starring Lord Lichfield as himself.
Angel Gabriel Blue	25 December	50 minutes	Hyacinth is in search for her dream kitchen while Richard has developed a fungus infection, not to his wife's approval. As a result Hyacinth claims it is gout, a disease supposedly caught by "good living". Meanwhile Daddy has gone missing again and their is a strange man in his place. Guest starring Trevor Bannister.

Series Five (1995)

The Old Folks Outing	3 September	Hyacinth volunteers to look after the old people in an outing to the funfair, however a certain old man proves to be quite a handful.
The Mayor's Fancy Dress Ball	10 September	Hyacinth prepares for the Mayor's fancy dress ball and is also on a mission to impress the new neighbours.
Hyacinth is Alarmed	17 September	Richard is horrified to wake up to see Hyacinth smiling at him; he later realises he has forgotten his and Hyacinth's wedding anniversary. Richard then decides to have an alarm system installed, claiming it is Hyacinth's surprise anniversary present.
A Riverside Picnic	24 September	Hyacinth organises a riverside picnic, much to the despair of those around her invited.
Skis	1 October	For Richard’s birthday Hyacinth buys some skis as she believes they will look good on top of the car. However needing Violet's and Bruce’s roof rack Hyacinth heads off to her sister's luxury home, picking two neighbours up along the way. The leading lady fears for her social status when arriving as Violet and Bruce are arguing.
The Country Estate Sale	8 October	Richard is not looking forward to going to a country house sale as he believes Hyacinth will spend beyond his limit. Meanwhile, a Mrs Braddock has commandeered Onslow’s car and is impersonating his dog.
The Boy Friend	15 October	Hyacinth gives hints to Emmet that she wants a role in his latest musical The Boyfriend. Meanwhile Daddy is once again back in the war and guarding Onslow’s house.
A Barbecue at Violet's	22 October	Hyacinth arranges a barbecue at Violet's, however on their arrival there is a blazing row between the pair. Thus Hyacinth has to introduce an eccentric singing game to prevent her guests from over-hearing.
The Rolls Royce	29 October	To Richard's horror, Hyacinth wants a new car . Therefore the pair end up taking a Rolls Royce for a drive. However Hyacinth’s plans of showing the car off takes a downwards spiral when the Rolls Royce gets reported as stolen and she gets arrested.
The Hostess	5 November	Hyacinth has put an advert in the local newspaper to teach people social etiquette, however an excitable Hyacinth does not get the results she expected.

Christmas Special (1995)

The Pageant	25 December	Hyacinth and Richard arrive at the Church hall as Hyacinth organises a Pageant based on the English Civil War, with herself as Queen Henrietta Maria and Richard as Charles I. However all of the volunteers supposedly taking part are unable to make it. At a last minute attempt to get the show off the ground, Hyacinth invites Onslow, Daisy and Rose along with Bruce and Violet to participate. Later in rehearsals however, Hyacinth falls fowl of a stage accident.
