Cro-Marmot is a light green marmot frozen in a block of ice. He is somehow able to perform many tasks off screen while entirely encased in ice, such as throwing snowballs, somewhat akin to how Handy can perform construction and other tasks without any visible hands. To keep himself frozen, Cro-Marmot stays mainly in cold areas, and sometimes drives an ice cream truck. He lives in a small igloo encased inside a giant snow globe. His hobbies include serving people ice cream, snowboarding, and surfing. He rarely dies in the series, the reason being that the ice he is usually encased in protects him from disaster, thereby rendering him almost invulnerable to most unfortunate events.

His hobbies include serving people ice cream, snowboarding, and surfing. He rarely dies in the series, the reason being that the ice he's usually encased in protects him from disaster, thereby rendering him almost invulnerable to most unfortunate events. Also, most of his "deaths" are debatable. When they aren't, they involve a form of heat, disasters (such as explosions or collapsing bridges) or being eaten
The only episode in which he is not frozen is Dino-Sore Days, as that episode occurred during the prehistoric times when he was unfrozen. In Dino-Sore Days, he appeared as a black-and-white character similar to the classic Mickey Mouse cartoon; with white gloves, shoes and black limbs, bigger nose, and longer ears. In the opening of the irregular episode, it states that it was copyrighted in the year 1927. Cro-Marmot usually appears in the series as a background character, and has hardly any showcase appearances, but has been marked his first appearance bigger than a cameo since Snow What? That's What! and Dino-Sore Days (either could be considered accurate) and in the episode, Wipe Out. In a featurette of the Second Serving DVD, he was interviewed, and it was revealed he's an accomplished writer, painter, and pianist, and he has his own brand of foot powder, held a tour on Broadway, known for his loud antics and energetic performances, and has been called the "sexiest Happy Tree Friend" in 1992. However, since the interviewer was unable to get any responses out of Cro-Marmot, she got into a violent rant with the creators.

Cuddles is a yellow rabbit with pinkish cheeks who inexplicably wears pink bunny slippers. He is one of the four primary characters in the series along with Giggles, Lumpy, and Toothy.

His long ears move to match how he feels; for example, if he is happy, they stay up, and when his feelings are hurt, they drop. He is beta-carotene intolerant and appears to be epileptic. It is also shown he has a collection of antique electric toothbrushes. His fur is SPF 90 to minimize exposure to the sun.

For example, if he's happy they'll stay up, and when he's sad they'll droop. Cuddles is one of the primary characters in the series. Like Giggles, Toothy and Lumpy, he appears in many of the advertisements
Cuddles was the second character to be created in Happy Tree Friends (the first being Shifty). Creator Rhode Montijo first drew him in a piece of paper with the phrase Resistance Is Futile above and that was how the creators got the idea for the show. His voice is even performed by the co-creator of the show Kenn Navarro.

Cuddles' personality is somewhat mixed. On one hand, he is dangerously mischievous and self-centered, which often leads to both his death and other characters' deaths. On the other hand, he is mostly friendly and caring, making his personality more complex than the others. He was seen to have multiple houses, but his official one is known to be a Hollow Tree, as it is the only one to appear more than once.

He is particularly good friends with Toothy, Flippy, Petunia, Flaky, and Lumpy. Cuddles and Giggles are also v friends, and it has been hinted several times thy have a close freindship each other. Their freinds relationship is most prominent in the Fall Out Boy music video: The Carpal Tunnel of Love

With 54 deaths, Cuddles is the character who has been killed the most times in the Happy Tree Friends franchise. He is also the character who has, so far, been killed by Disco Bear, Lumpy and Flippy the most (though, to be fair, Flippy and Lumpy generally kill everyone in episodes in which they are featured). While he dies a lot in the Internet and TV series, Cuddles has survived in Doggone It, Sea What I Found, A Change of Heart, A Sight for Sore Eyes, Letter Late Than Never, Double Whammy Part 1 but not part 2, We're Scrooged!, Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm episode, (debatably) Mime to Five, I Nub You, YouTube 101: Subscriptions, (debatably) A Bit of a Pickle, Star Kringle and the HTF Break shorts, Deck the Halls, We Wish You, and Take Your Seat. Their love relationship is most prominent in the Fall Out Boy music video "The Carpal Tunnel of Love", which featured Happy Tree Friends characters and the episode "I Nub You".
Cuddles is one of the characters to have an account on MySpace. It mentions that he is actually cant chew carrots because they which is possibly evidenced by the 'Feed' option of his Smoochie. In addition, it mentions he collects powerful antique electric toothbrushes and his fur is highly protected from the sun

He may look like a cute, cuddly, and sweet bunny rabbit (which is why his name is Cuddles) on the outside, but on the inside he's known as a rebellious Happy Tree Friend. His talents include extreme sports like skateboarding, surfing, and soccer. He even appears as a daredevil in Mime to Five. Cuddles loves listening to rock music, and he was once a member of "The Happy Tree Band." As evidenced in the Happy Tree Friends Break: Seize the Day, Cuddles suffers from epilepsy the same way Handy does
A Cuddles icon appeared in an episode of another Mondo Flash internet cartoon The God & Devil Show on God's keys.
He has appeared on one of the episodes of The God and Devil Show on God's keys, when they where chasing Robert Downey Jr.

Apparently, Cuddles' deaths involves his body getting sliced up, making him a rather unfortunate character in the series.

Cuddles is voiced by Kenn Navarro.

Disco Bear
Disco Bear is a light brown bear with an orange afro and sideburns who likes to dance to disco music. He wears 1970s style clothing, including a yellow jacket, yellow bell-bottom pants and orange and white dancing platform shoes. He usually puts everyone around him into life-threatening trouble while dancing, but mistakes their movements of pain for dance moves. He is mostly seen either showing off or trying to impress female characters, such as Giggles and Petunia, and usually killing them in the process. Despite his failures in wooing the ladies, he seems to be well off financially as he is seen with a private ski cabin, his fancy home (which looks like a bachelor pad decorated with the 1970s era furniture, modern art paintings, a heart-shaped bed, a hotel-like bathroom, and packs of romantic candles), a hot tub, a luxury car, a hair dryer chair and his own submarine. He also sometimes dies in a disco position.

Disco Bear also has poor eating habits, eating hot dogs, bacon, deep fried butter (in Change of Heart) and other fatty foods, and moaning over vegetables. Because of this, he gains weight, loses self-esteem, has a hard time running, and has had a heart attack. Besides disco dancing, he is talented at roller skating, downhill skiing, and throwing frisbees long distance.

He wears 1970s style clothing, including a yellow leisure jacket, yellow bell-bottom pants, and orange and white dancing platform shoes. His main catchphrase is "Oh yeah!". If he gets interested in anything, he will growl in a deep voice. He sometimes puts everyone around him into life-threatening trouble while dancing, but mistakes their movements of pain for funky dance moves. He is mostly seen either showing off or trying to impress the female characters, such as Giggles and Petunia and sometimes kills them in the process. While he sometimes flirts with Flaky, he has a tendancy to ignore her. In Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna be Ya!, for example, he pushes Flaky out of the way as he enters the scene, then goes off to flirt with Giggles and Petunia. When Flaky is outside his door later in the episode, however, he seems to be happy to see her, but debatably, Flaky took revenge of Disco Bear wanted to kill him. In Rink Hijinks, he carelessly bumps Flaky into a floor buffer when he's trying to show off his roller skating skills
Disco Bear is voiced by Peter Herrman.

His financial status could be a result of a previous music career in the 70s at the height of the disco era. In Ipso Fatso, as Disco Bear wakes up and dances to the bathroom, one can see a gold record hanging on the wall in his bedroom, indicating he may have once released a hit album that earned him a small fortune before the disco era came to an end. Further, his silhouette can be seen on a disco record in a jukebox in A Change of Heart, possibly hinting he released that album
His deaths usually involve his head, his eyes, or explosions. Like many other characters; the others are random. Like Lumpy, (and to an lesser extent, Splendid), Disco Bear has a high-pitched scream as seen in episodes Blind Date, Doggone It, Wishy Washy, Who's to Flame?, Sea What I Found, and As You Wish despite his voice being the deepest of all HTFs. Disco Bear has poor eating habits, eating hot dogs, eggs, bacon and other fatty foods while moaning over fruits and vegetables, as seen in A Change of Heart and Ipso Fatso. Because of this, he's overweight, ocassionally suffers from low self-esteem, is not able to run that much, and has heart problems. Besides disco dancing, he's talented at rollerskating, downhill skiing, and throwing frisbees long distances
It's been stated in several DVD commentaries and in the HTF forum that when the internet series started, most people in the staff (except for Rhode Montijo) didn't like Disco Bear because they found him annoying. Warren Graff said that it wasn't until the TV series started that they began to like him.
Disco Bear, being a fan of the 70s, has more often than not been seen playing and dancing to music thorughout the series, such as a Jukebox in A Change of Heart, a pair of headphones he was dancing to in Hello Dolly, he even has an alarm clock that plays 70s music as the alarm in Ipso Fatso.
Even though Disco Bear dies a lot, he survived in "Stayin' Alive", "The Wrong Side of the Tracks", "A Change of Heart", "Easy Comb, Easy Go", "Happy New Year","Disco Bears All" & "YouTube 101: Subscriptions"

Revision as of 21:04, 18 March 2011

This is a list of fictional characters from Happy Tree Friends. There are 22 main characters, and some other supporting characters.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series in 2010, the creators of Happy Tree Friends announced that there will be more than one more character added to Happy Tree Friends in the near future. These were later revealed to be a sheep named Lammy and her companion Mr. Pickels, as well as a pig named Truffles. A vote took place during the month of March and the winner was Lammy and her Mr. Pickels, who joined the show in its latest episode. While Truffles lost the vote, it is currently uncertain about what Mondo Media will do with him.

Flaky

Flaky is a red porcupine whose spikes have white flakes that resemble dandruff. Flaky is a female but lacks physical qualities that other female characters share, particularly eyelashes.

Flaky has the rather identifiable personality of being a shy and timid character and tends to vomit in tense situations. Additionally, when hanging around with other characters, she is often forcefully dragged into situations that led to her demise, despite the warnings about possible danger that may occur. Flaky's deaths tend to involve her either getting skinned or eaten.

Flaky is not only overly cautious, but also one of the more intelligent and kindest characters of the series. However, she has, on occasion, been seen as somewhat unstable. She is also allergic to peanuts, causing her face to be covered in hives, her lips to swell up, and her entire body to inflate like a balloon.

Flaky is voiced by Nica Lorber.

Flippy

Flippy is a light green bear with dog tags, a green beret with checkered crest, and a camouflage shirt. He fought in the W.A.R (Weaponized Animal Regiment). According to writer Warren Graff, Flippy is mostly based on John Rambo. He rarely appears in the series, most likely due to his repetitive behavior in most of the episodes in which he appears. He lives in an overturned log resembling a quonset hut, a structure used by the U.S. Armed Forces or a big, fancy house. Flippy is trained in hand-to-hand combat, and has never been seen using guns to kill other characters (although the closest thing he did to using a firearm was using a stapler as one and a bow with a torch).

Flippy has a severe case of post traumatic stress disorder. Whenever he sees or hears something that he associates with killing or that reminds him of war (e.g., loud sounds, gun noises, et cetera), he goes insane, becomes extremely aggressive and kills everyone around him, due to him thinking he is back in the war. While insane, his eyes turn a different color, his voice changes, his teeth turn sharp, and he becomes very aggressive. He first developed this aggressive change after facing a life or death situation while hiding in the dead body of one of his comrades as shown in one of his "War Journals".

Although Flippy can be the most cruel and violent character in Happy Tree Friends, he is considered to be one of the most sociable and kindest of characters when he's not Flipped-out. This is proven in several episodes where he is seen doing social activities with some of the other characters such as going to the movies and playing hide and seek. In most of the episodes where he appears, he is shown as friendly and social before he has a flashback, or as many people say "flipping-out." After he "flips-out", he does not remember the rampage that follows afterward and occasionally he realizes what he has done and is visibly disturbed. In "Double Whammy", he finally realizes his problem and goes to Lumpy the psychiatrist for answers. Lumpy tries using hypnosis on Flippy, but he accidentally hypnotizes himself into thinking he is a chicken. Flippy then goes home and after a bad dream he sees an evil version of himself trying to kill him. After a long battle with his evil side across town, evil Flippy takes the good Flippy to a warehouse. The evil Flippy then tortures the good Flippy but, he escapes and then they briefly fight. Then evil Flippy takes a knife and is able to hold good Flippy From behind the neck while good Flippy resists, and then they move towards a mirror. That's when Flippy sees that he is only fighting himself and the Evil Version of himself was only in his imagination. Finally, an army of evil and Good Flippys fight a bloody battle leaving good Flippy as the only survivor. Flippy sees that he imagined the entire battle and he has apparently removed his evil presence (which is revealed when a light bulb blows up and sounds like a gunshot and Flippy doesn't flip-out). However, he may have forgotten all of this after he was run over by a chicken truck shortly afterward.

So far, Flippy has killed every character, with the possible exceptions of Splendid, Lammy, Mr. Pickels, and Cro-Marmot. He is often considered to be the most popular character of Happy Tree Friends. Flippy dies the third least amount of times besides cro-marmot and splendid, but when he does, his deaths often involve motorized vehicles or machinery. Flippy has also shown to be one of the wealthiest characters in HTF, this is shown when lifty and shifty break into his house and notice he has many pricy looking antiques and heirlooms along with owning a army based helicopter. Flippy has also shown to be the strongest of the Happy Tree Friends (besides splendid) as seen in remains to be seen when he stops a manual lawn mower with his bare hands, he can also get careless when he is flipped out like when he accidentally kills himself in a car crash.

Flippy is voiced by Aubrey Ankrum. Kenn Navarro voices Good Flippy after season two, though through sampling Ankrum remains the voice of Evil Flippy.

Giggles

Giggles is a pink chipmunk who has a white diamond-shaped marking, a white oval torso, and wears a big red bow on her head. Giggles is one of the primary characters of the series along with Cuddles, Lumpy, and Toothy. She has the personality of a young girl, as she enjoys frolicking through flowers, having tea parties with friends, ice skating, and having a shy and sweet demeanor. Her name comes from her habit of giggling often.

Giggles is a very affectionate character and is often seen hugging and kissing several male characters. She is particularly close to Cuddles, whom she has a crush on as hinted at in several episodes. In Fall Out Boy's "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" music video, their romantic relationship was truly explored for the first time.

She is best friends with Petunia. The two run a lemonade stand together. Though Giggles' deaths are not usually as gruesome as Petunia's, she appears and dies more often.

Giggles is also very environmental and going so far as to chain herself to a tree to prevent Lumpy from cutting it down. When she sees someone polluting the environment, she will lose her temper and yell at them. In the 2 part episode "A Change of Heart" It is revealed that she is a nurse.

Giggles was voiced by Dana Belben for the first two seasons, and then by Ellen Connell from then until 2009. She is currently voiced by Lori Jee.

Handy

Handy is an orange beaver with unexplained amputated hands (thus his name) that are covered with bandages. Handy is a construction worker and usually wears a tool belt and a hard hat (the typical dress of most construction workers). His dam mostly consists of tools that are operated by hand.

Despite his lack of hands, he is still capable of building many things big or small, though he is never actually seen building it in the first place - they are usually off-screen. However, whenever he tries to do something onscreen which would usually require hands, he fails and pulls his trademark frustrated look, indicating he may have forgotten his lack of hands. Usually when he finds a compromise, it leads to his own death and sometimes the death of others. Many of Handy's deaths involve him being mutilated.

In the TV series, Handy has gained an interest in flying. From the episode, "In a Jam", it became apparent that he has photosensitive epilepsy, flashing lights triggering a seizure as his eyes go ascrew, he jitters, and foams at the mouth. He also does not seem to mind if others die or get injured, other than Petunia in the episodes "House Warming" and "I Nub You".

Handy is voiced by Warren Graff.

Lammy & Mr. Pickels

Lammy and Mr. Pickels are new characters introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series. Lammy is a lavender lamb who wears a white wool sweater. She enjoys tea parties and playing make-believe with her imaginary friend Mr. Pickels, a pickle with a top-hat and mustache. To everyone else, Mr. Pickles is an ordinary, inanimate pickle. While Lammy is a very sweet and good-natured character, Mr. Pickels likes causing mischief and even killing other characters. Whenever Mr. Pickels seemingly does something wrong, Lammy is left to appear as if she is the one responsible, and is usually deemed crazy by others when she tries to tell them that Mr. Pickels is to blame. Despite this, Lammy and Mr. Pickels remain close friends.

Lammy is believed to have multiple personality disorder, with Mr. Pickels a dark persona Lammy struggles to fight while she unintentionally causes mayhem, comparable to Flippy's split personality.

Lammy is voiced by Renée T. MacDonald.

Lifty & Shifty

Lifty & Shifty are identical-twin green raccoon brothers. They frequently steal merchandise from the other characters, as well as hunt for treasure, ransack houses, or do anything to get rich quick. They have the same gender, color, markings, bushy tails, personality and almost identical voices (Lifty's voice is slightly higher pitched). Shifty wears a fedora and he bosses Lifty around. Despite the smirks on their faces and their kleptomania, they almost always end up perishing in the process. Their green color implies money and greed, relating to their "criminal duo" personalities. They also have a trademark evil snicker.

Lifty and Shifty often argue about who is to blame when a problem emerges, but when trouble is afoot, they work together. Both twins are greedy and sometimes resort to seeing their twin die rather than give up their loot or be caught. They have even been seen laughing when the other dies, usually resulting to the end of both. Their greed can also lead to their deaths. These kleptomaniac raccoons have one of the lowest survival rates of any Happy Tree Friend. Their deaths also usually involve them either mashed together or sliced apart. Lifty & Shifty have, on occasion, made money by themselves without stealing, such as selling dogs who get crazy when they hear whistling, selling bottles of hair growth formula to Disco Bear, and selling candy and a video game console to Nutty.

Lifty and Shifty were voiced by Mark Giambruno until the end of season two, and are currently voiced by Kenn Navarro.

Lumpy

Lumpy is an unintelligent cornflower-blue moose with clean teeth pranging out of his mouth, bright disorbited eyes, mismatched antlers, and tremendous endurance and pain tolarance second only to that of Splendid. Lumpy is one of the four primary characters in the series along with Cuddles, Giggles, and Toothy. His low intelligence is often the cause of other characters' deaths, and sometimes his own. His deaths also tend to be particularly drawn out and painful due to his ability to survive injuries that would kill most other characters instantly.

He is the only one of the characters with a standard nose with two nostrils (smaller Happy Tree Friends have heart-shaped noses except Sniffles who has an elongated jaw that resembles a trunk). Lumpy has appeared in more Happy Tree Friends episodes than any other characters. Lumpy has had many occupations in many episodes, including a teacher, ticket clerk, bus driver, convenience store owner, police officer, physician, grave digger, firefighter, magician and more. He is usually a fill-in character, and often shown in tremendously incongruous situations, such as lounging lazily in a hammock, while the rest of the gang are playing. However he shows some intelligence in "Peas in a Pod" where he is cloned. He is often considered the "odd man out" because he doesn't share any Happy Tree Friend common traits such as a heart nose, buck teeth, or Pac-Man pupils.

He lives in a trashy trailer, frequently eats sandwiches and he likes to talk to lettuce[1]. A rock on Mars was named after him[2].

Lumpy was voiced by Rhode Montijo for the first two seasons and is currently voiced by David Winn.

Mime

Mime is a purple deer with a painted face, and who wears a blue and white striped shirt. Because he is a mime artist, others have a hard time understanding him. He can speak, but he chooses not to, although he has made audible breathing noises in some episodes. Most of his possessions are imaginary, yet can be stolen. He is talented with circus skills, such as juggling and creating balloon animals. He has shown to be very talented with his mime acts, examples are when he makes the noises of appliances and can even make things out thin air such as a bow and arrow and even a door which actually opens. His attempts at entertaining his fellow Happy-Tree Friends often have fatal consequences. Mime is also very fond of peanuts.

Mime could be portrayed as a juvenile deer, judging by the size of his antlers. He lives in a tent, the inside of which looks like a regular house. Inside his tent is an empty room. Since he is a mime, all of his furniture is imaginary. He dies quick and painless deaths more than any other character in the series, although most of his deaths are cameo appearances. Most of his deaths involve his head.

The Mole

The Mole is a blind magenta mole with the stereotypical "blind man" appearance of dark glasses and cane. The Mole actually has a mole on his face. He seems to love stuffed animals. He wears a purple turtleneck sweater with the neck unrolled and covering his mouth; as a result (like Mime and Cro-Marmot), he does not speak. He is not deaf, though he does have hearing problems. Disaster follows his blind bumbling. In several instances, he mistakes body parts such as severed heads for other things. He has been seen driving. His driving abilities are clearly not safe for his surroundings, though he has actually been seen stopping at a red light.

According to the commentary for the episode "Pitchin' Impossible," the Mole was originally supposed to be a James Bond-like secret agent with all kinds of spy gadgets, but that was changed when the actual series was created. It was not until the episode "Mole in the City" that his secret-agent identity was explored. He also has an arch-nemesis known as The Rat; the rivalry between them is most likely based on the fact that they both have careers in industrial espionage.

A running gag in the series is The Mole performing tasks that require, or that are associated with, vision, such as driving, lighting a match to see in the dark, and reading a book. His house is full of things that require vision (telescopes, books, etc.). He usually gets jobs where, as an ironic twist, excellent eyesight is the most important requirement; this employment usually results in a large number of characters getting killed. Most of his placements have something to do with the medical arts, such as his being hired as a physician.

In the web shorts, The Mole rarely dies, because one producer's daughter is blind, and they did not want to offend her or any blind person. Instead, he usually causes harm to the other Happy Tree Friends. He dies much more often in the TV series.

Nutty

Nutty is a yellow-green, sugar-addicted squirrel with a yellow, diamond-shaped marking on his head, and a big swirly tail that curves like a candy cane. He wears a caramel apple on the top of his head and wears a small sucker on his left cheek and a swirly lollipop on his right cheek and a candy cane on his chest as if it were a fancy bow-tie. He also has one eye that bears a slight resemblance to Flippy's "flipped-out" eyes. It is apparent that this googly eye is an amblyopia as it is almost always looking downward. It moves downward whenever the other eye moves in a different direction. Seeing something brightly colored, he will often mistake it for candy. He lives in a tree stump, where his home is in continual disarray. His bed has candy-cane legs, but he sleeps on candy wrappers on the floor.

As a result of his huge sugar intake, he is often hyperactive and jittery; even the slightest amount of sugar will set him off. He giggles more than he talks; he even giggles occasionally when he is dying. The only time he has ever been heard speaking was when he wished for a "scrumptious lollipop" in As You Wish. Deprived of sugar, Nutty foams at the mouth. He becomes very irritated and will do whatever it takes, as he supposes, to get his sugar fix, whether it be stealing candy, ignoring his friends—even participating his own death. Most of his deaths result from his obsession with candy. He is typically split apart, shredded, or stabbed through the chest.

Nutty is voiced by Michael "Lippy" Lipman.

Petunia

Petunia is a blue skunk with a light blue arrow marking on her forehead, which is connected to the triangle shaped marking on her back. She wears a pink flower on top of her head and a pine scent deodorizer around her neck and a white pouch. Petunia is rarely seen without her flower or deodorizer. While Giggles is childlike, Petunia acts more mature, though she still likes to play with her dolls and often has tea parties. She also seems to enjoy cooking. Petunia also seems to have a drinking habit in the series. She drinks a lot of juice which causes her bladder to go unstable at certain times. Petunia's deaths are mostly caused by household items, like sinks.

Petunia is often seen in the series with Giggles. They appear to be best friends and run a lemonade stand together. In the Internet series, they were almost identical in personality. However, while Giggles has appeared and died more in the series than Petunia, Petunia's deaths are the most gruesome in the series. Many fans refer to her as one of the most unfortunate characters because of this. Like Giggles, her head is usually involved in her deaths. She has a great fear of germs and filth and often dies, from fire. She is also the only main character of the series who has not directly caused the death of any other character so far.

Petunia has obsessive-compulsive disorder. She takes showers five times a day, and if things are either dirty, or out of their proper place, she starts to hyperventilate and tries to do anything to clean it up again.

Petunia was voiced by Dana Belben for the first two seasons, and then by Ellen Connell from then until 2009. She is currently voiced by Lori Jee.

Pop & Cub

Pop (Aubrey Ankrum) is a light brown bear with a red beret. His appearance is set as a stereotypically clueless, bathrobe-wearing, pipe-smoking, 1950s style sitcom father. His son Cub often dies as a result of both his attention and inattention - although it is clear that he loves him. He is not very bright and when he tries to save his son, he often kills him and sometimes himself, too.

Pop is among the few characters in the show who has a much more intelligible way of speaking. He almost speaks clear words in some of the episodes he appears in. He can even read a book with an understanding vocabulary.

Cub, meanwhile, is Pop's son. He wears a diaper and a beanie. He has the appearance and personality of a baby but the intelligence and mobility of a young child. He is the youngest and smallest character of Happy Tree Friends and his eyes, which are unlike those of the other characters, give him a more infantile appearance, but despite these traits, he still dies or gets injured.

He has appeared and died much more in the series than his father and his deaths are usually a result of Pop's bad parenting. If his father's not paying attention to him, he will often be seen wandering around operating machines by himself or carelessly drifting into death-introducing hazards.

Pop is voiced by Aubrey Ankrum. Cub was voiced by Dana Belben for the first two seasons, and then by Ellen Connell from then until 2009. He is currently voiced by Lori Jee.

Russell

Russell is a sea green sea otter with typical pirate fashion accessories such as a Jolly Roger hat, a striped red/white shirt, a hook, an eyepatch and two wooden peglegs. He enjoys fishing, sailing and eating seafood, one of his animal instincts, especially mussels, which was why he was named Russell.

He also likes kite flying and even runs his own fast-food restaurant, as seen in the episode "Mime to Five". Russell's initial character design depicted him with a five o'clock shadow, though since his early appearances, it seems as though he shaves regularly. Typically, his vocabulary consists mostly of "Yar", 'Aha!' and 'Huh?'. It is evident that Russell's legs are partially amputated. He lives in a big pirate ship shaped treehouse and sleeps on a purple hammock. Because Russell spends most of his time in the water, he is rarely seen with the other characters. His deaths usually involve getting impaled.

Russell was voiced by Jeff Biancalana for the first two seasons and is currently voiced by Francis Carr.

Sniffles

Sniffles is a periwinkle anteater who is one of the most intelligent characters in the series. He usually likes reading and doing science and math problems. To reinforce the "nerd" image that Sniffles exudes, he carries pens in a pocket protector on his chest, has tape on his nerdy glasses, and has been seen dressed up as a Star Trek-like character. Sniffles sometimes takes a math book out behind his back and reads it.

Sniffles' IQ has proved to be extremely high in both the Internet and TV series. He has built things which are far more advanced than what most of the other characters could create, including a rocket from a bus and even a time machine. However, sometimes these devices malfunction and work against him, leading to his own death. Like Toothy, he has a wide range of deaths, usually involving his tongue, head, limbs, or organs, and tend to be slow and painful, sometimes even torturous. Sniffles, following his animal instincts, has a craving for ants; this craving often leads to his demise. He lives in a tree made of metal.

Sniffles is voiced by Liz Stuart.

Splendid

Splendid is a robin egg blue flying squirrel. He is largely based on Superman, being able to fly at speeds over 900,000 miles per hour, shoot laser beams from his eyes, has x-ray eye vision, has super strength, supersonic hearing, can turn back time and can breathe ice. His appearance is somewhat based on Rocky from Rocky & Bullwinkle. He is usually seen doing housework until he hears trouble.

The irony of Splendid being a superhero is that he often unintentionally kills the characters he rescues (i.e.- Splendid saving Lumpy from bear traps, only for one of them to close around Cub's head). This is usually either because of his ignorance or his own powers. Because of this he is commonly referred to as the worst Superhero ever. Most of the time, he is oblivious to the other characters' deaths. He often flies away without checking to see if they are actually safe. He believes that being a superhero is a pain in the neck.

His only confirmed death was in the TV episode "Gems the Breaks" where he was overexposed to his one and only superhero weakness: "kryptonut", which looks like a green glowing acorn, except it is made out of rock; a reference to kryptonite, the weakness of Superman. Not only will the kryptonut make him lose his powers, but it will also make him vomit continuously and give him stomach flu.

Splendid was voiced by Rhode Montijo for the first two seasons and is currently voiced by David Winn.

Toothy

Toothy is a light-purple beaver with very large gapped teeth and freckles (thus in some episodes, Toothy's teeth aren't gapped). He is one of the four primary characters in the series along with Cuddles, Giggles, and Lumpy. He is generally a very friendly character. He appears to be best friends with Cuddles.

Toothy was the first character to be killed in the Happy Tree Friends series and he is also the character who has suffered long and painful deaths as seen in the episode that won an award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, the infamous "Eye Candy".[3]

He can be used in wider range of situations, unlike most of the other characters whose various personalities define how they might act in a given situation. He mostly acts before he thinks though he is by no means addle-brained. He even works as a dentist in the episode "Nuttin' but the tooth", where he took out a cavity Nutty had. Toothy is the only character that doesn't seem to have a hobby, and the creators consider him the character that needs to grow the most. Though Toothy is happy and playful, he lacks common sense.

Most of Toothy's deaths involve his head or his eyes coming out of their sockets.

Toothy is voiced by Warren Graff.

Other characters

 • Generic Tree Friends — Generic Tree Friends are not colored the usual colors; they are all-black, mysterious coloured but their eyes, nose, and mouth are shown. They are mostly used in masses when needed. Some of them look like a darker version of Toothy.
 • Pig Child — The final character to appear in "Mole and the City".
 • Giggles' Mom — Appearing only in the episode "Helping Helps". She was voiced by Dana Belben.
 • Old Prehistoric Sniffles — This prehistoric anteater appears in the episode "Blast from the Past". He is voiced by Liz Stuart.
 • The Narrator — A narrator that gives instructions to Lumpy in the training video Ski Patrol. The narrator was voiced by Mark Giambruno.
 • Fall Out Boy — The band members appeared in the music video as bears for The Carpal Tunnel of Love.
 • Elephant Balloon Man - A male elephant from "Mole in the City". He is killed by falling glass.
 • FatKat - A blue cat with a single tooth, a large body and a tail that has a bandage wrapped around it. Not much is known about this character, and as far as anyone can tell he/she has only featured in the episode 'HTF break- Take Your Seat' where he/she screamed when Flaky was killed. Truffles (See Below) was also seen in this episode.
 • Truffles - Truffles, a male aquamarine pig, was the other new character choice during the 2010 poll. As he lost, it is unlikely that he'll ever be seen in an episode (except for a cameo in the debut episode of Lammy and Mr. Pickles, the winners of the poll). He does, however, appear for an extremely short period of time (just a fraction of him hiding in the background) in the episode, "A Bit of a Pickle" and a few others after that.

Ka-Pow! characters

W.A.R Journal

 • Flippy is a green bear that has post-traumatic stress disorder and goes insane when in conditions that remind him of the war , and starts killing other characters. He is shown that he is not capable of doing things under pressure in the war and killed his teammates by mistake
 • Sneaky is a green chameleon that can stretch his tongue and blend in with any background. He was accidentally pinned to a wall by Flippy with his knife and was partly blown up shortly after. So far he is the only anthropomorphic creature in all of the HTF series that is not a mammal.
 • Mouse Ka-Boom is a orange mouse with a French accent. He specializes with explosives, is deaf, and has bandages on his ears. He says "Le" before any word. He was accidentally sliced in the middle by Flippy and blown up by his own explosives.
 • The Tiger Army are the enemies that Flippy and his crew face.
 • Tiger General is one of the evil leaders of The Tiger Army Flippy and his companions are sent to kill. He serves as the main villain of W.A.R Journal. He is missing an eye and has a claw for his left hand. He was crushed to death by a falling log.

Buddhist Monkey

 • Buddhist Monkey (Jeff Biancalana) - A special character that starred in his own special episodes: "Enter the Garden", "Books of Fury", and "Three Courses of Death". He is the only star-characters that never died. He seems to be a fictional character within the Happy Tree Friends World. Buddhist Monkey was originally supposed to be a main character, but the creators thought he didn't fit. Instead of getting rid of him they decided to give him his own show.
 • Dark Shadow Lord: The supposed main enemy of Buddhist Monkey and Ruler of the Ninja/Generic Tree Ninja clan. His name may have been mentioned as Char Sew, but it may be the Pig Ninja's, he appears to be an ancient Chinese dragon.
 • Generic Tree Ninjas - A special group of Generic Tree Friends from Japan, who terrorize the sacred places where Buddhist Monkey lives. They're the Followers of the Unnamed Shadow Lord.
 • Char Sew: One of the Dark Shadow Lord's more elite warriors, a pig ninja. He has a Giant Crab that he can control. He and the Crab were boiled to death in Three Courses of Death.
 • Orangutan Master - Buddhist Monkey's teacher when Buddhist Monkey was younger. He is also the one who made Buddhist Monkey bald. It was hinted that he died some time before Ka-Pow!.
 • Panda Mom and Panda Cub: A mother Panda and a baby Panda who live near Buddhist Monkey. The pair are the 'Buddhist Monkey' counterparts of Pop and Cub. It was hinted that she became poor due to poverty in Ka-Pow!

Splendid's SSSSSuper Squad

 • Splendont - The Polar Opposite of Splendid. He was freed when Splendid plugged a volcano with a large rock, the pressure built up, and it was launched into outer space. The rock broke the mirror prison, setting him free. Although Splendid is blue with light blue patagiums, a light blue oval marking on his tummy, and wears a red mask, Splendont is red with dark red patagiums, a light red oval marking on his tummy, and wears a blue mask.
 • Super Squad - The super hero team that Splendid summoned for help. The 4 members are: a female fox with the powers to create phantom hands, a female spider with multiple eyes and several bows on her head, a creature in a robotic suit, and a jellyfish-like creature in a jar of water.

Enemies

While most suffering in Happy Tree Friends is accidental, there are some antagonistic forces within the fictional world.

 • Cursed Idol - A Mayan statue which brings death and bad luck. This cursed Idol does none other than just sit there. When it appears, everyone who is near the statue dies brutally. This idol is based on the golden fertility idol in Raiders of the Lost Ark. It features in the episodes "Treasure Those Idol Moments", "Hello Dolly", and "Idol Curiosity". It appears as a prop in many other episodes.
 • The Rat - He has appeared only once and died by being split in half on a giant mouse trap in the episode "Mole in the City".
 • Demon - A carnivorous demon with tentacles who possessed Cub in "Read Em and Weep". It was summoned when Pop read a Satanic-looking book, which resembles The Necronomicon.
 • Whistle - A cute little blue Dog that Pop buys for Cub at the local pet shop in "Doggone it". Although cute, lovable, and playful, Whistle has savage and murderous tendencies toward anybody in sight using his cuteness to deceive his victims. This puppy somewhat bares traits with Flippy: as Flippy's flip-outs are triggered by anything reminding him of war or the heat of battle, The Puppy's savage side is triggered by any high-pitched sound (i.e. a whistle blowing). Whistle is based on Ken Pontac's dog who has the same name.
 • Pod Lumpys - An army of green Lumpy clones who appeared in the episode "Peas in a Pod".
 • The Ants family (Kenn Navarro, Warren Graff and Ken Pontac) - A family that has a mother ant, a father ant (deceased), a teenage daughter, the middle son, and a baby ant. Whenever they appear in an episode, it often involves Sniffles trying to eat them, only to be tortured and killed in the most sadistic manners.
