"Let It Go"
Song

"Let It Go" is the first single from R&B singer Keyshia Cole off her second album Keyshia Cole: Just Like You, it features rappers Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott. Elliott also produced the song, which samples "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume, and "Don't Stop The Music" by Yarbrough and Peoples. This song also interpolates "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G., who also sampled "Juicy Fruit". The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 74 on the issue date of July 7, 2007 and has thus far peaked at number 7, becoming Keyshia Cole's third top ten hit single altogether and first top ten Billboard Hot 100 single as a lead artist. Due to heavy requests, Z100 finally started rotating the track in late September 2007. It is nominated in the 'Best Rap/Sung Collaboration' category at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards to be held February 2008. This song was #59 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.[1]

Song information

"Let It Go" is another song by Cole that is about female empowerment and failed relationships. It is about "letting go" of your relationship if the other person is not there for you, and is not interested in showing you love or treating you right. The song is often referred to as another "Ladies Night" (by Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, Angie Martinez, Da Brat and Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes) The song "Let It Go" was originally intended for Fantasia for her self-titled album, but she had too many songs on that album, and Cole wanted it after Elliott played it for her. Lil' Kim appears on the record to remember Biggie, as the song is similar to his hit "Juicy".[2]

The song has become Cole's most successful song to date, peaking at number 7 on Billboard Hot 100 & reaching number 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Music Video

On 106 & Park, on August 8, Cole confirmed that she recently did a remix to the song with T.I. and Young Dro. She went on the say that they were planning on making a video. The original video has peaked at number 1 on August 27, 2007 on 106 & Park.

The video was directed by Benny Boom, and was shot on the week of June 22, 2007. Cole explained that the concept of the video "was you know, I'm chillin' at home, I just want to go out, they want me to go out, so I go out. I go do my thing and have a good time, basically. It's a party concept: This is what you need to do when you hear this song come on at the club. That's what you need to do with this record: Let it go."[3]

The video premiered on BET's Access Granted on July 11, 2007. It begins with Elliott convincing Cole to go out to a club to get her mind away from a guy. They are in the car and go to the club. The rest of the video is set in the club where everyone is dancing and having a good time. Angie Martinez, Leilene (from Charm School) and Fat Joe make appearances in the video. The radio edit is used in the video. The video has peaked at number 1 on BET's 106 & Park. The music video was filmed at new york city nightclub HOME in the Chelsea clubbing district which is located at 27th street and 10th avenue.

Remixes

There is a remix that features Grand Hustle's T.I. and Young Dro, where Lil Kim's verse is removed. Another is one that has Spider Loc.
