m Removed, once again, Colavito's misrepresentation of Knuth's actual words. The quote is a gross misrepresentation of what it's blatantly clear Knuth actually meant - as can be seen from Knuth's actual quote, within its original context. This is a biographical page about Kevin Knuth and any criticism should be factually based - and not a seemingly deliberate misrepresentation of Knuth's words that were published on this author's own website.

Kevin H. Knuth is a physicist at the University at Albany (SUNY) and a ufologist.

Education

Knuth has a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh (1988), a Master of Science (MS) in Physics from Montana State University (1990), and a PhD in Physics (Minor in Mathematics) from University of Minnesota (1995).[1]

Academic career

Knuth specializes in applying Bayesian and maximum entropy methods to the design of machine learning algorithms for data analysis applied to the physical sciences.[2][3] He has also researched autonomous experimental design[4][5][6] and question-asking machines.[7][8][9] Knuth developed the Knuth Algorithm for histogram binning that is used in Wolfram Mathematica to calculate the "balance likelihood and prior probability of a piecewise uniform mode".[10][11] He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Entropy,[12][13]

Ufology

Knuth has held an interest in unidentified flying object since childhood[14] and has been profiled in certain media as a scientist willing to publicly engage[15][16] with a topic that is subject to ridicule.[17]

Knuth serves as vice president of UAPx, a non-profit organization that aims to conduct field research about so-called "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena".[18][19] In 2022, Knuth appeared in a film about UFO chasing titled, A Tear in the Sky.[20] He is also a member of Avi Loeb's Galileo Project, a group of scientists Loeb convened to discuss investigation of UFOs. Writer and noted skeptical debunker Jason Colavito criticized Knuth's belief that the U.S. government is covering up encounters with aliens, writing that Knuth "leaned heavily on his credentials as a former NASA employee" but "provided no “insider” knowledge, nor any indication that he had firsthand evidence of a government conspiracy."[21]
