Kartik Tiwari (born Kartikeya Aryan Tiwari on 22 November 1988) is an Indian actor who appears in Bollywood films. Tiwari is best known for his work in the 2011 romantic comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama.

Early life

Kartik Aryan/also known as Kartik Kumar was born Kartikeya Aryan on 22 November 1988 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India.[1] Upon graduating high school from St. Paul's School Morar Gwalior and kiddy's corner public school Tiwari relocated to Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, where he enrolled at D.Y.Patil College to pursue a degree in engineering. Three years into his Bachelor of Technology studies, Kartik decided to pursue acting as a career.[1] He was eventually approached by director Luv Ranjan, who had discovered him on the social networking site Facebook.[2]

Career

Kartik made his acting debut in 2011, with Luv Ranjan's romantic comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama.[3] He portrayed the role of Rajat (Rajjo). The film opened to mixed reviews from critics;[4] however Tiwari's performance was generally well received. Writing for Daily News and Analysis, Blessy Chettiar described him as a "real delight".[5] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama wrote, "Kartik is a bit awkward initially, but his performance grows on you gradually. He's incredible during the final moments of the film."[6] Tiwari was additionally noted for his four-minute monologue—about the behaviour of women—in the film;[7] It is considered as the lengthiest long take scene done for a Hindi film.[8]

Pyaar Ka Punchnama emerged as a moderate commercial success with a domestic total of 125.0 million (US$1.6 million).[9] It was screened at the Indian Film Festival in Berlin[10] and the annual Antaragni cultural festival organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.[11] The film was later referred to as a cult classic.[12]

Tiwari's next release was Luv Ranjan's romantic comedy Akaash Vani[13]

His next film was Subhash Ghai's Kaanchi .[14][15] Eventhough The movie got mostly negative reviews,[16][17] Kartik's screen presence was appreciated.[18][19] His performance was one of the few highlights in this movie[20]
