Fighter is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action drama film directed by Siddharth Anand, and produced by Siddharth Anand, Jyoti Deshpande, Ajit Andhare, Mamta Anand, Ramon Chibb and Anku Pande under Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. It stars Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor in prominent roles. It is the first installment in the Fighter franchise and India's first aerial action film.[2]

The film was announced in 10 January 2021. Principal photography began in November 2022 in Assam. The music is composed by the duo Vishal–Shekhar, while the cinematography is done by Satchith Paulose.

Fighter was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on 30 September 2022 but was delayed due to production delays owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is scheduled to theatrical release on 25 January 2024, coinciding with the Ocassion of Republic Day.[3]

Development

In December 2020, it was reported that Siddharth Anand and Hrithik Roshan is going to reunite for a film after War (2019).[4] Fighter was officially announced on 10 January 2021, on the occasion of Hrithik Roshan's birthday.[5] The film is the India's first aerial action film.[6] It is the first installment in it's franchise.[7] The film is produced by Siddharth Anand, Jyoti Deshpande, Ajit Andhare, Mamta Anand, Ramon Chibb and Anku Pande under banners Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures.[8][9] The film is being made on a budget of ₹250 crore.[10][11]

"We have gone on a different level. The audience has not seen something like this before in India at all. It is something we have not attempted before. It’s just impossible to make a film like this at the cost which we are making it at. It’s not possible. Certain things we are exploring is really special. I can’t talk about it as I want the people to see it when we launch the teaser. Hopefully, it will just blow their mind."

Casting

"In Pathaan, she was a spy and in Fighter she is playing an air force officer. She is playing a character which is authentic, rooted and her research has been fabulous. Deepika plays real life characters beautifully. Although in Pathaan hers was a commercial-extravagant role, but in Fighter, she is very authentic, she is doing a lot of action and crazy stuff."

Roshan and Deepika Padukone as lead was officially announced in January 2021.[14] Roshan portrays Patty, an air force officer.[15] Padukone also plays an air force officer.[16] Anand said Padukone is doing a lot of action in the film.[17] Anil Kapoor joined cast in December 2021.[18] Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi joined the cast in November 2022.[19]

Filming

Part of the film was shot at Pahalgam, Kashmir.

Principal photography began on 14 November 2022 in Assam.[20] Roshan, Padukone and Kapoor joined in this schedule, that took place in Tezpur Air Force Station.[21] Team returned to Mumbai on 28 November 2022 after wrapping 10–days first schedule in Assam.[22][23]

For the second schedule team moved to Kashmir on 6 February 2023. Akshay Oberoi also joined this schedule.[24] Team returned to Mumbai on 12 February, after filming at Pahalgam in Kashmir, where a song and few action sequences were shot.

The third schedule was held at Dundigal Air Force Academy in Hyderabad, to shoot Roshan's character, as an Air Force cadet undergoing training.[25] The third schedule was wrapped in Hyderabad on 6 March.[26][27]

Post production

The VFX work of the film is done by DNEG.[28] It has many VFX work that other films.

Music

The music is composed by the duo Vishal–Shekhar. The album consists of five songs, including one emotional song.[29]

Release

Fighter is scheduled to release on 25 January 2024, coinciding with the Republic Day.[3]

Earlier in January 2021, it was announced that the film was going to release on 30 September 2022.[30] In October 2022, the release date was announced as 25 January 2024.[31]
