Delta Airlines Flight 1086 is a scheduled domestic passenger flight between Atlanta and New York. On March 5, 2015, the flight, operated by a McDonnell Douglas MD-88 (sometimes called Boeing MD-88 due to the Boeing takeover of MdDonnell Douglas), exited (presumably unintentionally) off the runway upon landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York. The nose of the plane crashed through a nearby fence before coming to a halt near The aircraft stopped just a few metres short of the Flushing Bay. There were no fatalities caused by the accident but there were some people who claimed injury. The cause of the crash is being investigated.

According to Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who is not part of the investigating team, "there are four possible areas where something went wrong," who received an update Sunday on the National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the skidding accident on Thursday. Sen. Charles Schumer said investigators are looking at whether the accident was caused by the pilot, who may have been going too fast; whether there was a malfunction to the airplane's thrust reversers, which may have caused the airplane to skid to one side; whether the braking rules at the airport were "inadequate;" or whether ice played a factor.^[1]
