Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT) is an Australian tertiary education provider. MIBT provides alternative pathways for students to enter other Australian universities to complete their studies. MIBT is closely affiliated with Deakin University and the majority of their students end up going there after successfully completing their course. MIBT is a major part of IBT Education Limited. The Institute is registered with the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and Training as a Registered Training Organisation.

When an MIBT student passes their course they are guaranteed entry into a full fee-paying place at Deakin University in second year. The recognised certificate is accepted widely by other educational providers but the pathway to Deakin is the easiest for MIBT Students. Australian students depending on their results and entry quotas may move into a Commonwealth Supported Place.

History and Philosophy

MIBT was established in September 1996 on Deakin University's Toorak Campus. At the time it was recognised to provide access to post secondary education for both Australian and International students who did not qualify for direct entry into university, but who, in the right circumstances, have the capacity and motivation to complete a degree program. MIBT also allows students to complete their studies more flexibly, for example if they wish to fast track (8 months) their course rather than do a regular university long course (12 months). Most of the students are non- Australian citizens; many students are from China, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Indonesia thus making MIBT a truly international institution.

In the second half of 2007 MIBT will be moving to the International Centre located on Deakin University's Burwood Campus.
