Dash (formerly known as Darkcoin and XCoin) is an open source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).[1] According to Cointelegraph, "it is the first cryptocurrency with a community governance and treasury system,"[2] and the first cryptocurrency with instant payment confirmations.[3] Dash operates a system of transaction mixing that aims to improve privacy.[4] The cryptocurrency was launched on 18 January 2014 by Evan Duffield as a codebase fork of Bitcoin.[5]
