Oberlin Academy Prepatory School was a school in Ohio. It admitted girls and African American students. It was located on the Oberlin College campus for much of its history. It closed in 1916.

Alumni include John Mercer Langston, the first African American congressman from Virginia. Oberlin College maintains an archive of school records.[1]

E. H. Fairchild was the school's principal from 1853 until 1869.

History

The school was established as the Preparatory Department of Oberlin College in 1833. From 1892 it was called Oberlin Academy. The school's mission was to prepare students for college. In 1887, the moved into French Hall and part of Society Hall. The school was removed from campus from 1912 to 1916 and occupied the Johnson mansion (now known as Johnson House) on South Professor Street.[2]
