Building history

The original building was constructed in the early 19th century. However, this building was burnt down in an unexplained accident on December 12, 1896. The city was given money for a new building through a grant from the state. The new building was then constructed on the same location as the original building. It was designed to resemble a castle. Construction was completed in the fall of 1897. Additions to this original building have been made over the years. The most recent of the permanent additions was completed in the mid 1950s. [2]
