This is a subpage of user Al83tito. Here I am drafting a personal summary of different aspects of Wikipedia. This is not an official policy page, but rather a user essay. Furthermore I am working on it slowly, so it will be incomplete (and possibly inaccurate) for a long time.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia created in 2001. It nested in a parent organization called the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia's existence can be explained by the existence of four main components: the encyclopedic articles (the visible output and its raison d'etre); the technological and legal "infrastructure" that makes it possible; the set of policies that govern it; and the user community that contributes to it.

Normative structure. Project structure.

Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free encyclopedia that is based on a model of openly editable content. It is owned and supported by the Wikimedia Foundation, a US-based non-profit organization. Wikipedia was launched on January 15, 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, as an off-shoot of Nupedia. As of 2018, Wikipedia is composed of 290 Wikipedia encyclopedias, and it comprises more than 40 million articles in 301 different languages. That means that an article on the same subject (e.g: World War II) may be found in multiple languages. Each

Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines

In such situations editors may propose that a policy be demoted to a guideline, or that a policy or guideline be demoted to a supplement, informational page, essay or historical page. In certain cases, a policy or guideline may be superseded, in which case the old page is marked and retained for historical interest.
