Requests for page protection | |
---|---|
This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), extended confirmed protected, semi-protected, added to pending changes, move-protected, template protected, upload protected (file-specific), or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop page-move wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
If you would like to request to have a page protected, have a page's existing protection level lowered or raised, or would like to submit an edit request for a protected page, please follow these steps (note: if you enable the Twinkle gadget for your Wikipedia account, this process can be largely automated for you):
=== [[Example Article Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Example Article Name}} '''Semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ === [[Template:Example Template Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Template:Example Template Name}} '''Reduction in protection level:''' From full protection to template editor protection. ~~~~
=== Short descriptive header === * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 1}} * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 2}} '''Temporary semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ |

Current requests for increase in protection level[edit]
James MacDonald (pastor)[edit]
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism sockpuppetry –Sammi Matt The user is continuously editing the content and removing controversy section. The user is paid and should be blocked as well. The page has been extensively edit and is about a pastor who has certain allegations so it should be protected to prevent any further destructive edits. (HinaBB (talk) 08:15, 1 January 2020 (UTC))
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Protection is not the way to go here; better to deal with the user you mentioned. DFO has already queried him. Lectonar (talk) 11:06, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Note: Far be it from me to (again) be accused of protecting defamatory content. (Chilling effect? You betcha. Nevertheless) I think the sourcing is adequate, but challenged negative BLP should probably not be added back without discussion, consensus, WP:BLPN, etc. This should not be interpreted as limiting any other admin from doing as they see fit. -- Deepfriedokra 11:10, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Mark Mattson[edit]
Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – One editor adding a large quantity of sourced content and another claiming it's COI and removing it, repeatedly. Largoplazo (talk) 11:32, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Fully protected -- Deepfriedokra 12:01, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Note: Started a thread at WP:COIN -- Deepfriedokra 12:01, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Device driver[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Spamming an external link. BernardoSulzbach (talk) 19:30, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- User(s) blocked: Nishajoshi448 (talk · contribs). There's not enough disruption in the article to justify protecting it, but the issue should be resolved. Please re-report if editors continue to spam the article. Thanks for reporting this. — Newslinger talk 01:47, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Subartu[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – More sock IPs of LTA "Эльбрус Казбекович".[1] - . LouisAragon (talk) 19:46, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. MelanieN (talk) 03:01, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Liverpool F.C.–Manchester United F.C. rivalry[edit]
Semi-protection: High level of IP (and new accounts created solely to make one or two edits on this one article) vandalism. Davefelmer (talk) 19:52, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. MelanieN (talk) 03:02, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Salford[edit]
Requesting page protection for the page Salford as two editors keep making a district and component rather than referring to it as a city. Which it is and has been documented as. Not a long term protection but one which stops informal edits from occurring. JoshuaistheFalco (talk) 22:04, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Automated comment: @JoshuaistheFalco: This request cannot be parsed. Please ensure it follows formatting consistent with the current or previous methods of submission.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 22:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Ismaila Soro[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CLCStudent (talk) 22:08, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Donny van de Beek[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CLCStudent (talk) 22:31, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Gary O'Sullivan[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Getting IP hammering yesterday/now. DBaK (talk) 00:35, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Chinese paddlefish[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Ip and new users keep changing the IUCN status in the taxobox to extinct after a new study and subsequent news stories, despite the IUCN explicitly stating that it hasn't been re-evaluated yet. Hemiauchenia (talk) 01:22, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Paul Krugman[edit]
Temporary extended confirmed: BLP policy violations – IPs adding poorly-sourced BLP violations. Dr. K. 03:06, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Rare (Selena Gomez album)[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Resume of disruptive editing by anonymous editors following previous blocks to page. livelikemusic talk! 03:28, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
T. J. Warren[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. KH-1 (talk) 03:58, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Takeshi Kitano[edit]
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Several IPs have been adding an unsourced, contentious category in this BLP since July of last year. I would recommend extending protection to a year. You've gone incognito (talk ⋅ contribs) 04:15, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
John Beilein[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – raised levels of vandalism due to subject's controversial comments. Amccann421 (talk) 04:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the rolling archive if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Obaseki[edit]
unprotect: Hi, could somebody please unprotect Obaseki so I can create a dab page there? Thanks! Dr. Vogel (talk) 15:20, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Jimfbleak:, the protecting admin. Lectonar (talk) 15:22, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- It's not really about remembering, it's courtesy...and it's in the instructions. The admin is still active. Lectonar (talk) 15:39, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
Unprotect the page[edit]
Hello, someone please unprotect the page Abhishek Kumar Ambar, admin who protected the page offline from last 10 days. I have created the draft of the article also. Swapnil Kaustubh (talk) 06:05, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Automated comment: @Swapnil Kaustubh: This request cannot be parsed. Please ensure it follows formatting consistent with the current or previous methods of submission.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 06:08, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Not done Please do not attempt to main space this draf. It needs to be reviewed by WP:AfC. It was previously deleted per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abhishek Kumar Ambar. It needs to be significantly improved to not be deleted again.-- Deepfriedokra 12:13, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{request edit}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Wikipedia:Example (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) your request here. ~~~~
