Liesl Laurie[1] (born April 28, 1991 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2015. She has represented her country at the Miss World 2015, in Sanya, China on the 19th of December 2015. (She was not able to compete in Miss Universe 2015, as the final of this competition was scheduled for the 20th of December 2015 in Las Vegas, USA.)[2]

Personal life[edit]

Laurie lives in Eldorado Park, a mainly colored suburb in Johannesburg. She has a Bachelor of Communications degree and became a social activist in her country.[3] In June 2014, she launched her own non-profit organization (NGO), named "The Pearl Project". The project aims at inspiring young girls, through motivational and educational workshops. In 2010 she started to compete at pageantry. She placed as the 2nd Princess of Miss Soweto 2010 and awarded as Miss Personality at the pageant. In 2014 she placed as the 2nd Runner-up of Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 2014.

Miss South Africa 2015[edit]

On March 29, 2015 Laurie was crowned as Miss South Africa 2015 by reigning titleholder Zipozakhe Zokufa. The Miss South Africa Pageant was held at the Sun City Super Bowl. Laurie defeated 11 other finalists during the main event. Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss attended the event, along with two other South Africans to have won Miss World.[4][better source needed]

Miss World 2015[edit]

As Miss South Africa, Laurie has participated in the Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China, as one of 114 contestants. She was one of the Top 10 finalists and became the Continental Queen of Africa, for being the contestant, who was placed the highest of all the African contestants.[citation needed]
