Michael Brooks (born October 2, 1964) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League. He played for the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants, and the Detroit Lions. He was an All American college standout college football at Louisiana State University. Slated to go in the top ten of the 1st round of the draft until a knee injury sidelined him his senior year. Michael was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 3rd round, he earned a starting position late in his rookie year and went on to lead the team in tackles for 5 consecutive seasons,his best year was 1992 when he made his first Pro Bowl. Brooks was a leader on the defense and served as defensive captain for 4 years. Brooks signed as a free agent with the New York Giants in what was a very controversial and disappointing loss to his Denver fan base. Brooks quickly earned Defensive Player on the year and Most Valuable Player honors while with the New York Giants. He also served as Captain of the Defense while with the Giants. Brooks retired from the Detroit Lions in 1997 after reinjuring his knee to return home to assist in the care of his mother, Louise who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Brooks is an inductee in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
