Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Just before User:MusicLover650 was indeffed they were working on the Leather Project and Blake Morgan jobs. Some of Earflaps very first edits were the recreation of the The Sledge/Leather Project page. It was word for work the same as the deleted version by MusicLover650. They also upload pictures of Blake Morgan.[1] Uploading a picture of Blake Morgan was the second last edit of Music before being blocked.[2]

They have the exact same referencing style as described here. User:Robohearteipr also has the exact same referencing style.[3] ANd was also involved in uploading pictures of Blake Morgan.[4]

Looking at all these accounts first edits. None are new editors of Wikipedia. Rather than are all an experienced editor. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:55, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CesareAngelotti is obviously a paid editor and given their immediate interest in AFDs they are a sock of someone. This !vote back in 2014 was to support a sock of an editor linked to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Sibtain_007/Archive although no CU evidence was found. SmartSE (talk) 10:03, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

While CesareAngelotti is pretty obviously a paid editor (at least for quite a few of his creations and expansions), I don't think he is part of this group. For one thing, his referencing style is different, e.g. CesareAngelotti vs. MusicLover650. Note also that a few overlaps with articles by the sockmaster or known socks may simply indicate that different "jobs" for the same article have been listed on sites like Fiverr, Upwork, etc. For example, three different editors (one, two, three) had been paid via Fiverr to edit Frederick Achom at various times . And while one of them was found to be a sock from a very large farm, none of the three were socks of each other. Voceditenore (talk) 10:51, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  •  In progress. The only accounts that can be checked are Earflaps and CesareAngelotti. I'm not convinced there's enough evidence to warrant a check, but in deference to our new CheckUser-because-he's-an-arbitrator, I'll suspend my better judgment.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:31, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you Bbb23. As always, I trust your judgement on things, sometimes even more than myself, and would have supported your decision to decline. The CU tools are at the discretion of the person using them and they have every right to make their own determination. I do thank you though for performing this check on my behalf. With this, I am marking the case as closed. I've reviewed the behavioural evidence for the other accounts along the same lines as Voceditenore's investigation. I'm in agreement that there are too many dissimilarities between the reference styles and edit summaries to tie the remainder of the accounts together. I do feel that the CU did provide us with assurances that other accounts were not involved with Earflaps. With this SPI closed it in theory should allow the ANI to proceed. User Emitdfatt appeared a few days ago claiming to be the subject of the article Emit (artist), which was deleted as WP:CSD#G5 in December. This isn't an obvious WP:DUCK, but because we often get new sockpuppets showing up trying to get their previous work undeleted, it's appropriate to have it checked here, particularly if it is a sock trying to impersonate the subject. Then again, it could be legit. ~Anachronist (talk) 01:31, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recreation of Rick Boardman. The user was registered on 19 January 2017 and made only 2 edits so far but I notice the user has the habit of adding long edit summary same as the master and previous sock e.g. this. GSS (talk|c|em) 16:40, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Weller and Ajraddatz: This newly registered user Jenna828 recreated Andy Masi earlier created by the master and again the habit of adding long edit summary is very similar so do I need to open a new case for the CU? It looks like they are now using new account each time they recreate deleted articles. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 09:30, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note that they have disclosed their COI and claim to be a new user: Talk:Andy_Masi. Given the content of the page, it seems unlikely that they have created that themself and they may be proxying for the master. SmartSE (talk) 10:41, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that but to be honest they don't look new users per their editing pattern. Jenna828 was registered today and he is well aware of WP:CITE, WP:NAMESORT, disclosure policies etc. and if I look at this it looks like created by an experienced user. GSS (talk|c|em) 11:00, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep that's exactly what I meant. Those aren't the edits of a newbie. SmartSE (talk) 13:40, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @QEDK: It's really hard to catch them behaviourly at the moment because of their smartness. I can only see the use of edit summary as a complete explanation same as the previous sock and the master which is very uncommon for a day old user e.g. this, this, this and this. • Last edit anywhere by the master was on 01:18, 03 Apr 2012, so that is stale. Best to deal with this account based on behavioural evidence. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 00:54, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the confirmed sockpuppets (Earflaps created Rick Boardman originally) have much more recent history, and serve as a reasonable basis for comparison.
Ooh, true. Forgot about the fancy archives here. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 08:58, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @QEDK: I don't think we can hope to be 100 % conclusive in cases like this, but what are the chances that brand new users know how to format tables correctly [5] and use {{reflist|2}}[6]? The 'accessdates' in Rick Boardman are odd because they are the same as in the deleted version. The people behind this are obviously sophisticated and given how they were busted last time, they are likely not to repeat the same mistakes. I think it comes down to us deciding where the consensus lies as to whether these articles are realistic new contributions or whether they are proxying. •  Additional information needed - @GSS-1987 and Smartse: While the behaviour was common enough for CU, it has turned up with no results. The burden is now on you to prove that there's a definite connection. I understand the points you're making but if you could present a diff-by-diff comparison (and/or links to logs) between the sock and sockmaster, that'd be great. QEDK () 16:31, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

A bunch of accounts who's edits strongly connects them to sockfarms and undeclared paid editing. (Phekoo, Kobi Arad, Surya Jayaweera). Most closely matching to Bobby159753 who is a blocked sock of MusicLover650/Earflaps.

Phekoo

Background on Phekoo [7]. BrettKrent (PlikoraT sock) created a mainspace article here [8]. From that draft HaiderPoert (PlikoraT sock) created a mainspace article here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Phekoo&oldid=739431688]. It was patroled by Doosedouyrs (PlikoraT sock) [9]. Bobby159753 (MusicLover650/Earflaps sock) has also maintained a sanbox for [10] Phekoo and for his band [11] Red Diamond Dogs (G5 deleted)
Knoxvi11e's sole edits are to Phekoo [12]. Timeline, article is moved from main to draft [13], 6 April Bobby159753 puts it in sandbox [14] and develops it [15]. 6 April Knoxvi11e then posts that developed version into mainspace from Bobby159753's sandbox [16].
Кость Лінивець removed the COI tag [17].
Кость Лінивець Edited the sandbox of Bobby159753 (MusicLover650/Earflaps sock) [18], then a draft for Phekoo.

Kobi Arad

Kobi Arad Band is created, probably by Bobby159753 (MusicLover650/Earflaps sock). It was deleted on 7 April.
Кость Лінивець early edit concerns Kobi Arad [19]. An edit much like Earflaps [20] and Bobby159753 [21]
Кость Лінивець On 5 March xe states here "I'm trying to create a page about him, .."
Hkronk, On 18 April xe states [22] "I have been in the process of working on Kobi Arad's page."
Кость Лінивець Edited the sandbox of Bobby159753 (MusicLover650/Earflaps sock) [23], then a draft for Kobi Arad Band.
Slewkow [24] Created a version of Kobi Arad [25] and is now blocked as a sock of MusicLover650/Earflaps

Surya Jayaweera

Olderdawnsd's contributions [26] are the norm for a throughaway promo sock. User, Talk and Sandbox immediately. Develop the sandbox the post a promotional article into Mainspace. Do nothing else and dissapear. Article's other main editor is Bobby159753 (Earflaps sock). Surya Jayaweera is part of WolfeTech and GXB Interactive, both created by Bobby159753
Кость Лінивець Was working on a draft of WolfeTech [27]. WolfeTech was created by Bobby159753 (Earflaps sock). (Also GXB Interactive [28]. GXB Interactive was also created by Bobby159753

User:Кость Лінивець also editted Glen Carroll and Sticky Fingers (tribute band). Both are sock/spam magnets. duffbeerforme (talk) 11:43, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Almost every new editor that has significantly edited Draft:Kobi Arad or Kobi Arad is a sockpuppet or paid editor. For example, the first article Hkronk edited was DJ Disciple. • These suspected socks are continuing to add associated acts in the same fashion as confirmed sock Ctmv2. Formatit, Leathersosoft and Whoagkemosabe have been blocked several times each for ignoring multiple warnings about adding associated acts. The first edit of Leathersosoft was to add associated acts and to enclose this list in the hlist template, which isn't usually a newcomer's style. Leathersosoft was blocked four times, the first being April 10. On April 13, Whoagkemosabe was registered, with the very first edit a continuation of the work of Leathersosoft who had been reverted.[29][30] Whoagkemosabe was blocked three times.
  • Ctmv2 added associated acts to Iamsu!, and so did Leathersosoft.[31][32]
  • Ctmv2 and Leathersosoft both changed "The Diplomats" to "Dipset".[36][37]
  • Formatit and Wessantana added DJ Quik.[38][39]
  • Ctmv2 and Whoagkemosabe both added Trinidad James.[40][41]

Benarnold98 displays the same recent interest in "associated acts" as other recent socks, adding list entries without regard to the guideline restricting such entries to very extensive collaborations. The instructions were reverted, showing that the person is perfectly aware of the issue, yet the disruption continues. Benarnold98 has put the word "decluttered" in edit summaries,[44][45][46] in the same manner as confirmed socks Wessantana[47] and Univalve.[48] No need for checkuser as behavior is the exact same as previous socks. Binksternet (talk) 23:25, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Update: Adding Birdmann20 and changing checkuser to "CU" so as to ferret out any sleepers. Birdmann20 is doing the same stuff to associated acts and is putting "decluttered" in edit summaries.[49][50]
  • Update 2: Adding Chinkyz because new account is immediately interested in associated acts, and edit summaries use the abbreviation "A.S."[51] in the same fashion as Birdmann20.[52][53]

Both Juniormatsinabe and DIT39 have been edit warring over the "associated acts" parameter in the infobox of musical artist biographies. Both accounts were registered in late June after the last two socks were blocked on June 15. Both are putting URLs into their edit summaries,[54][55] leading me to believe they are the same person. They are similar to earlier confirmed socks by the same edit summary usage of "qualify" – "I removed the ones that didn't qualify" vs. "Mariah doesn't qualify" vs. "Jhené Aiko and YG don't qualify for associated acts".
I am requesting checkuser to flush out any sleepers. Binksternet (talk) 22:06, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

MusicLover650 appears to edit from the US state of Florida, as demonstrated by a couple of IP addresses doing the same things. Many recently created socks have been reacting angrily, especially Eurofan86 reverting seven times at Meek Mill, and Adamleggings blanking my userpage. More evidence to follow. Binksternet (talk) 16:57, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • NestIlEz started on July 14 by adding a few associated acts. At Belly (rapper), Florida IP 104.136.95.180 added some associated acts on May 10,[57] which was reverted and the IP blocked by checkuser. Then NestIlEz added more acts on July 14.[58] At The Weeknd, the suspected sock changed French Montana to Belly[59] which was reverted. Then Florida IP 2602:30A:C03A:4470:2402:D2DA:F83C:8CD performed the exact same edit a few hours later.[60]
  • St inga began on July 18 to add associated acts, for instance adding Future, Young Thug and Wiz Khalifa to Trae tha Truth.[61] The same artists had previously been added by confirmed sock Leathersosoft.[62]
  • Cazchise also began on July 18 to add associated acts. The next day, Cazchise added French Montana to Lil Durk,[63] which had previously been added by confirmed sock Leathersosoft.[64] Similarly, suspected sock St inga added ASAP Ferg and Skippa da Flippa to Lil Yachty on July 22,[65] which was reverted, but Cazchise restored these and more on July 27.[66]
  • Adamleggings began on July 25 to add associated acts, starting with the Donald Glover biography which had already been under the attention of confirmed socks Juvenile3001 and DIT39, as well as some Florida IPs. Juvenile3001 added a bunch of names including Ludwig Göransson,[67] followed by DIT39 doing the same, then Adamleggings came along and added Ludwig Göransson.[68] Florida IP added Machine Gun Kelly to Sean Combs,[69] which was reverted, then Adamleggings made the same edit.[70]
  • Donttellmewhattodo69 started editing on July 26, including adding Illmind to Joell Ortiz.[71] Illmind had previously been added by checkuser blocked Florida IP 104.136.95.180.[72]
  • I love sonny D also began editing on July 26, starting with Busta Rhymes which had already been of interest to confirmed socks Wessantana, Chinkyz, Birdmann20, Juvenile3001 and Juniormatsinabe. Suspected sock I love sonny D added Missy Elliott, Pharrell and DJ Khaled.[73] Confirmed socks had previously added Missy Elliott,[74][75][76] DJ Khaled,[77][78][79] and Pharrell.[80][81][82][83]
  • Eurofan86 began editing on July 29 by adding the Neptunes to Slim Thug.[84] The same edit had already been made by one Florida IP,[85] and also a second Florida IP.[86] Eurofan86 also went to the T.I. biography to add a bunch of associated acts including Travis Scott,[87] who had previously been added by suspected sock NestIlEz.[88]
  • Dvko's first edit was to add associated acts to Playboi Carti,[89] a biography that had previously seen confirmed socks and Florida IPs adding associated acts.[90][91] After Dvko, suspected sock Adamleggings also changed the associated acts.[92]

An image by the same filename (could be a different photo) was uploaded to commons by another user which is another redflag for me. Here's a more recent example of another unsourced DOB in an article that was previously deleted at AFD. This, the fact that their edits are almost exclusively music-related seems to merit a check. User Benarnold99 added names to AA list on Nas and was subsequently confirmed as a sock, blocked, and this user added them after the fact. JesseRafe (talk) 15:32, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Checkuser not needed, as behavior is obvious. MusicLover650 was very much concerned about the "associated acts" parameter in the infobox, leaving edit summaries arguing about how this and that artist should qualify. The IP6 range has been doing the same thing, with one of them blocked recently for disruption,[105] and another coming to my talk page to deliver a personal attack.[106] Here are the revealing edit summaries left by RedNinja567,[107][108] and the ones left by previous socks.[109][110][111] Binksternet (talk) 00:13, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dang, I have to reconsider my assessment about the IP range because of one edit summary, "view source",[112] which is only used by the dog and rapper vandal. Binksternet (talk) 01:23, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IP has made four edits, two being blatant vandalism, two being to inquire about the dog and rapper vandal who is apparently MusicLover650. Someone editing from DRV's range posted on my talk page on Meta Wiki not to long ago regarding the DRV, probably DRV himself, sounds to me like this IP follows DRV's MO. Even if not, this could be a case of WP:NOTHERE. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages)Have a blessed day. 15:10, 22 March 2019 (UTC) PCHS-NJROTC (Messages)Have a blessed day. 15:10, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's a Comcast v6 range out of Florida, and it includes 2601:583:600:8368::/64, which has been previously blocked. I'm going to go with the /48, because I don't see any edits from that /43 that aren't also included in the /48. ST47 (talk) 21:37, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Another "music programmer" editor, just like all of MusicLover650's accounts. Makes a minimal change in one edit on electronic music producer articles by adding "music programmer" to the lead and changing the infobox occupations (such as by expanding "DJ" to "Disc jockey"), making the associated acts list vertical, changing the genres or replacing the stage name with the surname in the image caption. Similarly to the other accounts, most other edits are on rappers.

Thiyois and all his socks were already investigated and banned, but they were wrongly assigned as being a single case. They are all sockpuppets of MusicLover650, and they need to be reorganised. Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

All of these accounts were fiddling with "associated acts" in the infobox of rapper biographies.

This vandal sometimes makes an edit summary with just the name of the new addition."screwball" was added byIDontBelieveInTime, "jetsonmade" was added by ChristianCanada.

Special:Contributions/StevenIs8000 built up their edit history in the exact same pattern as blocked socks Special:Contributions/2 Kings and Special:Contributions/Orversace, first making some article edits, then messing with user pages to increase the edit count in preparation for gaining access to protected articles.

  • ChristianCanada and IDontBelieveInTime are  Possilikely (a mix between possible and likely) to each other on the technical data, but apparently unrelated to MusicLover. It's possible those two should be broken out into their own case. StevenIs8000 is Red X Unrelated to those two, but based on CU logs, they are  Possible to Jandon l, a 2-year old confirmed sock from the archives. no No comment with respect to IP address(es) There's enough uncertainty here that I didn't try to look for sleepers. I'll leave the blocking and tagging to a clerk after they figure out if a case split makes sense or not. -- RoySmith (talk) 00:34, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I took another look at this. I'm still unsure what should be done with ChristianCanada and IDontBelieveInTime, but at this point, neither one has edited in 6 weeks so it's not worth worrying about. I've tagged StevenIs8000 as suspected and I think that's all we can do here. Closing. -- RoySmith (talk) 16:16, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  •  In progress - Girth Summit (blether) 12:11, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • ChristianCanada is confirmed to Whoagkemosabe, a blocked sock of MusicLover650 (and I see that they show up in a previous report in the archives of that SPI case, someone has had suspicions on that front before).
  • Bloombergh is using an IP range that geolocates to a different part of the same large country; they are using exactly the same (common) UA however, and showing up at the same pages to make the same changes is rather ducky. I'm going to move this over to the MusicLover650 case, block both accounts, tag CC as confirmed and Bloombergh as suspected. There isn't much to go on to make the connection with the Pompous Retail case, but the CU logs do put Pompous Retail and ChristianCanada in the same city; that case may very well be connected to this one, but I'm going to leave it where it is for now. •  In progress - I ran a check, but there are a lot of IPs so sift through: so far, I've established that LifesKindaCoolSometimes is confirmed to the following accounts:
  • There may be other accounts; I haven't yet been able to establish whether or not they are connected to the other accounts in this case, or any other case, but I suspect that it may be MusicLover650. I need to spend some more time on this, but have to dash now - I'll try to come to it later today, or any other CU can pick up where I've left off. Girth Summit (blether) 13:13, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, I've been staring at IP addresses for too long. Here's what I find:
    • The accounts Bra1nwashin, FarrahNahwar, CollectingDogs and LifesKindaCoolSometimes are  Confirmed to one another, and their IP data is consistent with what I see in recent MusicLover650 cases; their editing interests seem like a good match for that case. I'm blocking; they should probably be tagged as confirmed to each other, and suspected to MusicLover.
    • They aren't a good match for the other accounts in this case. Their UAs are different, and most of their edits are from separate ranges. They do overlap slightly on one very wide cellphone range, but on its own I wouldn't read too much into that. The overlapping behaviour is suspicious, of course, but a strong behavioural similarity would be needed to make a connection.
  •  Clerk assistance requested: - please review the notes above, and either (a) move the accounts I've listed into the MusicLover650 case, or (b) if you feel the behavioural evidence is strong enough, move the whole case over there, then tag accordingly. 17 March 2023[edit]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

MusicLover650 and socks were known for emphasizing rappers as being connected in groups as collaborators, adding lots of unsupported names to the "associated acts" parameter.[117] In a similar manner, sockpuppet ChristianCanada pushed the idea that groups of rappers were connected as "spinoffs" of influential leaders. ChristianCanada suggested at Template talk:Infobox musical artist that a new parameter should be added to the infobox to accommodate his idea. See Template talk:Infobox musical artist/Archive 16#“Spinoff_of” parameter being for solo artists as well. Nearly a year later, StreetKnockerzEnt made almost the same request, asking that a new parameter should be added to allow for rappers to be grouped as "Protégé"[s] of influential leaders.

ChristianCanada was blocked on July 21, 2022. StreetKnockerzEnt registered the username in December 2022. Both of them have the same diurnal pattern, taking a break from 05:00 to 11:00 UTC.[118][119] The editing intersection of both accounts is extremely wide.[120] They both changed the "origin" parameter for Tupac,[121] Both accounts were adept at adding "child" templates to infoboxes.[122][123]
