Nominator's rationale: Rename to match the name of the article worldbuilding, where conworlding redirects. Per the lead of that article, This may include [...] invented languages for the world, so conlanging is already included and does not need to be restated. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:56, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: delete and merge. Not enough content on a yearly basis for this category. Do not need to merge to YYYY crimes in Spain every year since the articles are often categorized under YYYY murders in Spain. –Aidan721 (talk) 18:20, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As User:Fayenatic london noted for Italy, this should be manually merged, because not every terrorist incident is a disaster, and because some articles may already be deeper down in a crime by year tree. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:07, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This is just a list of rivers which may for short periods of time have served as borders. The Russian Empire was in expansion mode for most of it's existence; who can say when it's borders ever attained a fixed position or proponged period of stability? It's all quite WP:OR. Category:Orthodox Christians[edit]

The result of the discussion was: upmerge and restore redirect to Category:Eastern Orthodox Christians. – Fayenatic London 07:44, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches are both called "Orthodox". :However, their name does not mean that they are two church which practice each a different form of a common Christianity (Christian denomination) which would be "Orthodoxy". They are not like the Reformed Church in America and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ukraine which are two different churches practicing Reformed Christianity. Both Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches use the term "Orthodox" because they claim to be the "church of truth" (orthodox means "on the right path", "on the right doctrine"), but there is not a single current from which they split, rather they both are different currents.
Therefore, this category does not reflect a real categorisation but the commonality of a word, and thus this category should be deleted. Veverve (talk) 14:50, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SmallCat (1). If retained, rename to "Habsburg monarchy–Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth border" as the Austrian Empire did not exist at that time. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:16, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. On top of that, the one article is about a river that was the border between the Habsburg monarchy and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth for only about 20 years. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:43, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: As French Polynesia is part of France, it does not make sense to have an "expatriates in France" category. Also note the category title features a typo in Polynesian. S.A. Julio (talk) 03:53, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Men's international footballer categories[edit]

The result of the discussion was: Rename all Timrollpickering (talk) 18:53, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose renaming The below 724 701 categories, from "Fooian international footballers" to "Fooian men's international footballers".
List men's international footballer categories to rename
Nominator's rationale: The subcategories of Category:Association football players by men's national team should be aligned to use "men's" per the outcome of this RfC from 2022, where it was decided to separate the footballer category tree by players of men's and women's football. Previously, the category tree only had women as subcategories, for example Category:English women's footballers was a subcategory of Category:English footballers, and Category:Germany women's international footballers was a subcategory of Category:Germany international footballers. The men's/women's footballer category trees will now operate independently, which should therefore be reflected in the naming of these categories. Also note that the categories describe players by which country they are representing in international football, so therefore whether or not "men's" is used in the title of the national team article is not relevant (otherwise these categories would be titled "Foo national football team players"). S.A. Julio (talk) 15:35, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Why can't "Lists of country international footballers" be unisex? Pelmeen10 (talk) 16:55, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pelmeen10: I suppose it could, but then it wouldn't really make sense to be within the men's/women's national team category trees if it contains players from both teams. S.A. Julio (talk) 17:08, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They currently are subcats of "Lists of country sportspeople" (unisex). I'm not seeing a category such as "Lists of country footballers", so maybe even better option to rename? Example Category:Association football in Spain lists direct subcat is "Lists of Spain international footballers‎". Pelmeen10 (talk) 17:18, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is Category:Lists of association football players by nationality unisex? Pelmeen10 (talk) 17:30, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pelmeen10: Yes, those categories are unisex. Maybe the category tree could be changed to "Lists of Fooian footballers" or "Lists of footballers in Foo", I'm mostly indifferent on the matter. Though note that some categories such as Category:Lists of England international footballers are quite useful, as there are eight different lists that would otherwise have to be placed in Category:England international footballers. S.A. Julio (talk) 21:07, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The alternative proposal on that RFC was just to make the categories unisex i.e. upmerge the women's one into the general category. That got significant support, albeit the split got more support. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:18, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for international teams per PRIMARYTOPIC, to ensure that the category name matches the article naming. GiantSnowman 11:44, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: The format of these international player categories explicitly don't follow the national team article names, though. If that were the case, the categories would be titled "England national football team players" and the like. Also, the naming of categories should be unambiguous, having recently gone through these categories there were many instances of women's players categorized in the men's team categories. The category naming should provide clarity for readers, for example the category for Birmingham is titled Category:Birmingham, West Midlands (per consensus). Unlike articles which may have the benefit of a disambiguation hatnote at the top, categories are often added to an article without ever seeing the category page. S.A. Julio (talk) 19:13, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think creating a new cat "England national football team players" and such would be good idea. It's a bit illogical that youth players are subcats of the NT players, while they are completely different teams. "International players" could be their parent cat. "England under-21 international footballers" does not directly refer to the U21 team either, just that the player are under the age of 21. Pelmeen10 (talk) 23:20, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
'England under-21' refers to players who play for the England under-21 team, not just players generally under that age! GiantSnowman 15:29, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know. But for clarification the subcats to main national team footballers can't be footballers who played for a different team (such as junior teams). Similarly Category:England national football team is only for the main team (otherwise the name of the cat should be "England national football teams" in plural, which is covered by the Category:England national football teams) and not for the youth teams - there is Category:England national youth football team (should be renamed to plural too). Pelmeen10 (talk) 21:30, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:California Democrats. (non-admin closure)LaundryPizza03 (d) 16:45, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: In my quick check through several other states' city council members categories, it looks like we have category trees by city and sometimes gender and race but no category division by political party. I think in many locations, these are non-partisan offices so I'm not sure if this is a new category tree that should be created. Liz Read! Talk! 03:51, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: My motivation for Category:Democratic Party city council members of California is to make Category:California Democrats a container category that contains only sub-categories and does not directly contain pages. The existing sub-categories use elected office at the state and federal level; my idea was to add local titles.
Correct that city council is often non-partisan, but to my knowledge most city council members do have a party affiliation that can be a defining characteristic.
Alternatives:
  • Create a category for Democratic Party local elected officials of California
  • Find an alternate categorization scheme for Category:California Democrats

  • Comment — In this case, ambiguity is good, as it means flora and fauna do not need to be split into fractional categories by "basin", "sedimentary basin", "reef", and "rainforest". Nobody is confusing them with a technology company.
