Nominator's rationale: Merge per WP:SMALLCAT. Do not need to merge to Category:Basketball competitions in North Carolina since both articles are already in Category:College basketball tournaments in North Carolina. –Aidan721 (talk) 17:06, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as it contains 7 articles. SMALLCAT is unlikely to apply for cities which regularly host basketball competitions such as Winston-Salem.--User:Namiba 21:17, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Clear WP:PERFCAT. Contestants were already known prior to appearing on this show, so clearly not WP:DEFINING. We cannot have categories for appearances on every iteration of a talent show on television. --woodensuperman 12:07, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is a helpful category for grouping people who appear on the show. Also, "Contestants were already known prior to appearing on this show" is not necessarily true. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:12, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but "helpful" doesn't cut it I'm afraid. WP:PERFCAT is quite clear. Imagine if we started doing this for appearances on every TV show, every panel show, every talk show, etc, etc. Oh, and the fact that they're "All Stars" implies that they have already some level of fame outside of this. This is not a WP:DEFINING category. --woodensuperman 13:26, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand. Why have Category:RuPaul's Drag Race contestants but not Category:RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars contestants? ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:40, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, personally I have an issue with that too. I think for it to be WP:DEFINING, it should just be Category:Participants in American reality television series, but I think that the generally accepted rule of thumb here as that most of these people would not be known in the first place were it not for their coming to the public eye through that one specific show, so that first appearance can generally be allowed. --woodensuperman 13:46, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK but All Stars sometimes has contestants who did not compete on RuPaul's Drag Race specifically. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:49, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If they first came to prominence on All Stars could they not be upmerged to the more generic Category:RuPaul's Drag Race contestants? --woodensuperman 13:51, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No. Again, not all All Stars contestants appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:04, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But All Stars is part of the same franchise and a subcat of the main contestants category anyway. Can you give me an example of a couple who haven't appeared? --woodensuperman 14:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Vivienne competed on the UK series, but not the US series. It would be inaccurate to say she competed on RuPaul's Drag Race. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:11, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
She was already notable before she appeared on All Stars, therefore this is not a WP:DEFINING category for her. --woodensuperman 14:17, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes appearing on this series is what makes an individual notable. Simply appearing on any Drag Race show does not earn you a Wikipedia entry. We know this because we've had many deletion discussions for contestants. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:29, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget Jimbo from Canada! — JuanGLP (talk + contribs) 15:16, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Who apperars in three of the these WP:PERFCATs now --woodensuperman 15:19, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you are implying that all of these individuals are notable because they appeared on a previous TV series. We know from many Drag Race-related AfD discussions that simply appearing on a show is not enough to establish notability. We can't have it both ways. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:07, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep As discussing in the above that the contestants in this category could fit into RuPaul's Drag Race contestants even though multiple All Stars contestants did not originally appear on RuPaul's Drag Race, notably The Vivienne and now Jimbo. If this category is removed it would make much more sense to have only a general Drag Race (franchise) contestants category that all participants are in regardless of country specific show they competed on. I think keeping this is beneficial and consistent with keeping all the specific categories for participants in the various Drag Race shows. HighlandFacts (talk) 18:29, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No we shouldn't have categories for every iteration of the show because of WP:PERFCAT and WP:DEFINING. I really can't see why you're not getting this. --woodensuperman 08:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike with professional actors/actresses, there should be a narrow exception to WP:PERFCAT for reality show contestants who are notable primarily for their initial performance. Once they gain some traction and get booked for follow up performances like this one, we should avoid category clutter for every single listing in their IMDB profile. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:29, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep Same as my point under the All Stars deletion request, but even more so as only 3 of the current 9 members of the category actually competed on RuPaul's Drag Race UK. There aren't enough other writers in the "Canadian people of Afghan descent" parent category to populate it above the bar, and the "Canadian writers of Asian descent" parent is not otherwise subdivided into "writers of [specific country] descent" subcategories to make this part of an "overall subcategorization scheme". Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING generally
The Society of Scribes & Illuminators is a professional society. Fellows means a lot of different things but here it seems to be a cross between a fraternal lodge induction and an interview: you have to be nominated and seconded and submit work samples. (The process is outlined here.) This seems like a legitimate credential but the 6 articles don't treat it as defining, generally mentioning it in passing. There wasn't a list so I created one right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, mere membership of an organization is hardly ever defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:37, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. This is not mere membership, as the nominator acknowledges. Not is it achieved simply by interview , or nomination: fellows must be elected, after meeting strict criteria. To be elected is therefore a significant achievement. The category insides a significant petition of the society's 42 fellows. Also, @RevelationDirect:, please cite your list, lest it be deleted. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • An achievement is not relevant for definingness, being well-known for it is what counts. Usually (at best) chairs of organizations and activists of an organization are defining. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:53, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:V and WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCASSOC and WP:SMALLCAT)
The Academy of Experts (TAE) is a British professional association for paid expert witnesses but that that organisation's article makes a passing reference to having fellows. Conversely William Marslen-Wilson, the only article in this category, lists this title in the infobox (without citation) but makes no other mention of being an expert witness. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Background This category was nominated a couple years ago and survived based on multiple editors thinking it should be populated. But it hasn't been so I'm renominating. - RevelationDirect (talk) 03:03, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:39, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per last TfD and WP:NODEADLINE. The claim that the use of the honorific in the Marslen-Wilson article is uncited is false. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:42, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pigsonthewing: Sorry about that, I copied some text from the original nom and missed that change so I've updated the nom, although the citation is a dead primary source. But how do respond to paid expert witnesses being known for what they're an expert in (not testifying about their expertise) and a category created in 2017 still only having 1 article? - RevelationDirect (talk) 09:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the citation to which I referred (and which has been in the article since its creation). I again refer you to WP:NODEADLINE. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:57, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is it this other dead link to a primary source that you're referencing? - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:14, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not referring to any primary source. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:15, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You called me out for having a factually inaccurate post (in bold no less), so I assumed good faith, apologized, corrected my nomination, and asked for clarification on what the source is that I missed. The article only has 3 sources all 3 of which appear primary--but 2 of them don't work so I'm not sure--and I can't find this mentioned on the 1 extant source, his university biography page. So no more cat and mouse: specifically, which of the 3 sources are you referring to? - RevelationDirect (talk) 17:00, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. The single article makes no mention whatever in the text of the FAE so his fellowship is hardly defining and the category is effectively empty. Oculi (talk) 10:35, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
