The result was merge to List of England international footballers. There's clear consensus here that this should not remain as a stand-alone list in its current form. It's less clear which of several possible re-organizations is the preferred one. I'm calling this a merge to List of England international footballers, largely because the XFDcloser software requires me to specify a target. However, I'll leave it up to whoever performs the merge to read over the whole discussion here and consider if any of the other organizational structures make sense (perhaps with further discussion on the talk pages). It's clear that this isn't going to be a straight deletion (i.e. admin action won't be required to delete anything) so no need for further heavy-weight AfD process. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:25, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Complete list of footballers to have played for the England national football team, which is merely an extension of the List of England international footballers article (that article is limited to players with 10+ caps). Either the extended data is not wanted, per WP:NOTSTATS, or it is wanted and should go on the main article. Either way, the (alphabetical) article is redundant. • Comment for clubs, the norm is to have about three articles broken down by numbers of appearances (as in for example Wikipedia:Featured topics/York City F.C.). • Merge to main list, for completeness. The <10-capped players actually aren't covered elsewhere, other than in the Category:England international footballers, and in principle they belong in the main list. But as Chris says above, footballer lists are often split on grounds of manageability – a single table with 1000+ entries is far from easy to either read or edit – and standard practice is to make the split(s) by number of appearances. So in practice, Rename to List of England international footballers (1–9 caps), remove those entries with more than 9, and link this "new" page from the 10+ caps List of England international footballers. Thus making it clear that the two articles are parts of the same complete list, as per List of Belgium international footballers (21+ caps), List of Belgium international footballers (5–20 caps), and the as-yet-redlinked List of Belgium international footballers (1–4 caps). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:58, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

• Comment I agree with Struway2's proposal in principle. However, I'd propose two new lists: List of England international footballers (3–9 caps) and List of England international footballers (1–2 caps). The suggestion to split would still require this list - how can a list split across multiple pages be sorted alphabetically? Any further segmentation would make it harder to find individuals through sorting, and would be harder to maintain as players cross the thresholds. • Purposes of the list include searching for a name, for the most capped players or chronologically for players who are likely to have made appearances at the same time.
