Message received! Thanks for the welcome. 67.130.249.145 (talk) 13:57, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it looks like you made the same mistake I did -- you should make sure you're logged in when you make the edit. Right now your response is signed by the IP address of the computer you used when you wrote it. No worries; if you want (it's such a minor thing, so it doesn't matter), just log in and re-sign your comment. To do that, take everything from "[[Special:Contributions" to "(UTC)", and snip it out and replace it with "~~~~". Klortho (talk) 14:12, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

.

Yes, I was wondering about that. Let's see if this one works as it should. Also, just to let you know, I have submitted the form for the fall....on to the next steps.Sherry Ogg (talk) 15:52, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, Sherry Ogg, and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are a course instructor leading a class project. We encourage you to read our instructions for teachers and lecturers. It is strongly recommended that you add your class to our list of school and university projects. For more help about educational projects using Wikipedia, see our classroom coordination project which was created for the very purpose of assisting course instructors who use Wikipedia for their courses.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question.

Before your students create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not. Unencyclopedic articles are subject to deletion.

We highly recommend that you place {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and should be treated accordingly.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay after your assignment is finished! Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 12:21, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Welcome and the information. We will add our class to the Wiki page you suggested and add the educational note to the associated talk pages. Thanks for the advice. Sherry Ogg (talk) 13:07, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Pharaoh. I've been working with Dr. Ogg, and we've been actively engaged with the Wikipedia education project, and our courses are listed here. I'm a little bit confused. Are you, and these groups who maintain these pages you've linked to, working with the education project? There seems to be some duplication of effort here. OA[edit]

Hi! Klortho asked me to sign on as an Online Ambassador for your class, and I'd love to help out. I'm a biology/biophysics/physics major at Loyola in Chicago, so I'm particularly excited to help out with a biology class. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you right now! All the best, Keilana|Parlez ici 06:36, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great news! Thanks for your willingness to help out. Class is officially open today, so the questions may come in a couple days. We'll get you added as an OA on the syllabus, so the students have your contact info.Sherry Ogg (talk) 16:56, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds awesome, thanks! :) Keilana|Parlez ici 20:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering about group assignments[edit]

Hi Prof. Ogg,

Trying to figure out what other users are in my group so that I can add them to my sandbox and get in touch. Am I missing where I can find this information, or has it not been released yet? Thanks! WeberOwl (talk) 04:08, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to your course page, scroll down to the bottom. Just above the table for 'Students', you will see a table for 'Groups'. You're in 82E.
Thanks, I'll check it out.WeberOwl (talk) 14:16, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you![edit]

Hi, Dr. Ogg!

This is just to say thank you for leading the Molecular Biology Wikipedia project this past semester. It definitely resulted in some excellent contributions to Wikipedia, that will have enduring value to future students and researchers interested in these topics. Chat and compare notes on last semester's classes[edit]

Hi, Sherry, I'm wondering if you'd like to chat a bit and compare notes about last semester's education program classes, here on Biolprof's talk page. Klortho (talk) 01:29, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Question[edit]

Hi Dr. Ogg, I am very new to this wikipedia editing and I'm currently in your Molecular Biology course. I see on the course page down at the bottom my name in the student group but no one elses. Have I done something wrong or will I only ever see my name? Sridenour (talk) 14:45, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just took a look at the page and I don't see your name either. If you followed the format in the "Students/Groups" table, your user name should show up for everyone to see. If you did follow the format and your name does not show up, it sounds like a question for one of our OAs.Sherry Ogg (talk) 14:59, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I followed the instructions with clicking the enroll tab at the top of course page and entering in your code from blackboard but when creating my sandbox I did something wrong and it was deleted by wikipedia admins but I created the second one fine so I'm wondering if the deletion caused a problem. I can see my name at the very bottom of the course page and the course is under My Courses on my page so I'm a little stumped because the enroll tab is gone when I go to the course page. I addressed this to one of our OAs so hopefully they have a solution. Sridenour (talk) 17:16, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so the OA just got back to me and said that yes I am enrolled correctly and believes you may be looking at a cached page, so if you wouldn't mind double checking when you get a chance and letting me know if you see my name somewhere and that I'm not lost in the world of wikipedia I would greatly appreciate it. I'm horrible with computer programs so this kinda has me nervous. Thanks Sridenour (talk) 17:57, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd, I'm still not seeing any student names in the bottom table. I have refreshed the page and cleared the cache. I'll get in touch with the OA to figure this out.Sherry Ogg (talk) 21:01, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I am still only seeing my name at the bottom so if you have figured out anything please let me know. Sridenour (talk) 17:46, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see only your name also, but students still have a week to complete this task. I'm not concerned yet : ) Sherry Ogg (talk) 17:57, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. Ogg, I just wanted to point out that we don't have a second article assigned to us for review unless I am missing it somewhere. This review is due tomorrow so please let us know how to proceed. ThanksSridenour (talk) 12:27, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, for the late upload on the assigned articles for this unit. The reviewers have been updated now, so you should be able to see them. I'll give you a couple extra days to get the review done.

Late submission[edit]

Hi Dr. Ogg. I got totally confused by the Wiki assignment and stupidly thought we were just supposed to create our username this unit. I have no found the course page and worked through the steps described in the instructions. I'm sorry and understand any penalty for my tardy submission. Donbinincom (talk) 00:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Don, Glad you have this worked out now. I will update your grade today.Sherry Ogg (talk) 12:06, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some baklava for you![edit]

Hi, Dr. Ogg

Thank you for again leading the Molecular Biology Wikipedia project this past semester! I am very happy that we were able to make significant contributions to several Wikipedia articles, which will provide benefits to students and researchers of these topics for a long time to come! Klortho (talk) 02:39, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And thank you for being an OA! I think the articles were very good this semester and the process seemed to go quite smoothly, from my perspective at least. We'll have to compare notes before next semester, if you're up for another. I have two sections in the spring, if you are willing.Sherry Ogg (talk) 21:11, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Consideration for a new Wikipedia topic?[edit]

Hi Professor Ogg, my partner and I would like to pursue a topic on [Molecular Paleontology] for our WikiPedia project. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, it has been claimed by 7 different WikiProjects, including as a Mid-importance topic for the Molecular and Cellular Biology community. If approved, some of the sections that immediately come to mind that we would likely cover would include techniques for sequencing DNA preserved in fossils, techniques involved in isolating and amplifying the DNA, information about some of the history of the subject, information about the oldest organisms which have been sequenced and other notable organisms, environmental conditions needed to preserve DNA for long periods of time, and challenges inherent within this field. The topic of Molecular Paleontology is directly related to the work I am looking to pursue in my PhD, and my partner is interested in the topic as well. Will you approve our article topic? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaleoBioJackie (talk • contribs) 01:29, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that sounds like a great topic and I like the suggestions you've made for techniques for sequencing, isolating, and amplifying ancient DNA.Sherry Ogg (talk) 02:03, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! We appreciate it! PaleoBioJackie (talk) 21:00, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Dr. Ogg, just to let you know: the stub page was just, coincidentally, deleted yesterday, for copyvio. I've suggested that they can start again from scratch. Discuss here. Klortho (talk) 04:17, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you![edit]

Thanks for running the JHU-Wikipedia project for your Molecular Biology classes again this past semester. I think it resulted in some really great contributions, that will have an enduring benefit to students and researchers in the future.

JHU GLAM page[edit]

Hi there! I'm an archivist in the Sheridan Libraries at JHU, and am working this year on expanding the library/archives involvement with Wikipedia. I've created a page for us in the GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) section of Wikipedia, which you can see here. Would you mind if I include a link to your course pages in the Courses tab? I'm hoping our site will be a place for people to find out about the many Wikipedia activities across JHU. Your classes sound really great, btw! I'm working with a professor on a class that will involve Wikipedia in the spring and your course page is a great example. Flappable (talk) 17:03, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, please feel free to include a link to my course pages. The most recent are from the spring 2014 semester.Sherry Ogg (talk) 17:13, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
