In the future, please add attribution when copying from public domain sources: simply add the template {{PD-notice}} after your citation. I have done so for the above article for one entry as an example. If you could please go back and add a citation and attribution for each entry, that would be great. Please do this in the future when copying public domain material so that our readers will be aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself, and that it's okay to copy verbatim. While I personally don't care enough about the word there to revert, I note your edit summary "lay" doesn't mean layman's is not correct. Compare https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lay#dictionary-entry-5 versus https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/layman, or the adjective definition in https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/lay (which unfortunately seems to lack an anchor).
