English: A flagellated protist Paraphysomonas butcheri revealing the stramenopile condition. One long flagellum is embellished with stiff hairs, the other lacks such hairs. This arrangement of flagella is also referred to as heterokont. The body of the flagella has delicate scales. The flagellate feeds on bacteria, two of which are located beside the hairy flagellum
