Description

Photograph of Beckman physiological and cardiovascular monitoring system, from Beckman Instruments, Incorporated – Locator #19 – Gemini Physiological & Cardiovascular Monitoring System

This cardiovascular reflex conditioning system was designed by Beckman Instruments' Space Engineering Group (SEG) in 1964 for NASA's Projects Gemini and Apollo. This system was part of astronauts' flight suits and would inflate and deflate cuffs to stimulate blood flow to lower limbs, preventing the usual diuretic effects of prolonged weightlessness during space flight.
