Early life and education
Mnguember was born on 9 December 1960 in Gboko, Benue State. She was raised in Jos, Plateau State, where she finished high school. She proceeded to the University of Jos, and graduated with B.A. in English, which was followed by her National Youth Service Corps in Ibadan. Afterwards she further obtained a degree in literature from Bayero University Kano, and Ph.D in African literature in Jos.[citation needed]
Career
Mnguember served as an assistant lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Abuja from 1995 to 1998. From 1998 to 2002, she became a full lecturer, and later as an Associate Professor in 2005, which she worked for three years before being promoted as a Professor of Literature in 2008.
