Charismatic Restorationism

Just working out how to do this - is this the best way of replying to you, or should I have put it under your comment to me?

Anyway - I'm doing my PhD in ecclesiology within the British New Church Movement, currently writing up the history. My sources are: Jonathan Wallis Arthur Wallis: Radical Christian (East Sussex: Kingsway, 1991); Peter Hocken Streams of Renewal: The Origins and Early Development of the Charismatic Movement in Great Britain (Exeter; Paternoster, 1986); Andrew Walker Restoring the Kingdom: the Radical Christianity of the House Church Movement 3rd Ed (Guildford: Eagle, 1998); Joyce V Thurman, New Wineskins: A Study of the House Church Movement (Frankfurt: Lang, 1982) amogst others.

My background is Ichthus Christian Fellowship in London - hence the quibbling about Ichthus!

Image:Smith A E.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Smith A E.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 16:28, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Graham D J.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Graham D J.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Others that fall into the fair use disputed category are:

A tag has been placed on Placeblogger, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. mcr616 Speak! 21:32, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you're a bit confused about the general Wikipedia policy regarding speedy deletion. First off, I didn't ignore your {hangon} tag, an administrator did beacuse the article you created was spam. Second off, I didn't delete the article. Only admins can delete an article. I just placed the {db-spam} tag because it was spam. If you have any questions about Wikipedia policy regarding speedy deletion, you can leave a note on my talk page or on an admins. mcr616 Speak! 22:42, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and when a site like Placeblogger has less than 1,000 hits, it's usually considered non-notable. I wasn't out to get you or Placeblogger. Thats just Wikipedia policy, and I'm sorry if it upset you. I wasn't trying to suggest that you were some crazy spammer. Placeblogger appeared to be spam, and was deleted by an admin. Hopefully, you can add helpful content to Wikipedia in the future. mcr616 Speak! 22:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don Brash: Presbyterian

Hi AJ, No I can't confirm that, I think probably because I copied the infobox from the John Key article the religion was "Anglican" and I forgot to change it. You're right, he's probably more correctly Presbyterian, although his biography seems to imply he's agnostic. --Lholden 20:28, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Tututawa.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tututawa.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

J. D. Chesswas

A tag has been placed on J. D. Chesswas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Alan Liefting 08:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've been working on disambiguating links to Evangelical. In the course of this, I've made a couple of updates to Tertiary Students Christian Fellowship, on the assumption that the first occurrence of "evangelical" should link to Evangelism, but later uses should link to Evangelicalism.

Given that you are sole editor so far on that article, I'm happy to bow to your judgement on whether this was the correct way to disambiguate. If the first one really should have linked to "evangelicalism", please feel free to update that and remove the second link to that article. We just want to avoid in-article links to the Evangelical disambiguation page, because some readers won't necessarily understand which is the correct meaning of the word in that particular context. If you have any comments/questions, please feel free to post a reply here because I will see it.

Creationism

I see u have edited this article so i can assume it is in your interest field the neutrality of its contents. I do not speak en as a first language but i feel while reading the structure that atheists paint the creationists in some very narrow understanding as if they are all about some christian anti-science professors. it could be i am mistaken so i added a small tiny anecdote that the belief that life comes from a creator is traditional, they don't challenge this as fact bu they claim rightfully the wording is not good giving a very general picture as if all or most creationists are also traditionalist[1]. can u take care of this concern? here is my last edit concerning this request Thanks--יודל 22:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Blokes and Sheds

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Blokes and Sheds, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Blokes and Sheds is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Blokes and Sheds, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Peter Cross (editor)

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Peter Cross (editor), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. -- Alan Liefting talk 06:09, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Kirton.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Kirton.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:34, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for contributing such a large number of articles. Since you've got so many there, perhaps you could put them into a box like this

No way around the contents section being where it is, unfortunately - Mediawiki generates that table automatically.. The only way to remove it is to remove the headings, (and perhaps to remove some of the superfluous information? Do we really need to know everything about you and your family? Do we really need to know every article you've edited?). Cheers, Mostlyharmless (talk) 01:21, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response from Koro Neil

Hi A.J. You left a comment on my talk page a couple of weeks ago, and I answered you there. Recent contact with other Wikipedians indicates that perhaps I should have answered here, although I find it slightly muddling getting a response without immediately seeing what it's a response to. It often looks like a response to the thing immediately before it, when it's more likely to be a response to the response. Anyway, for what it's worth, I reproduce here my response (to your response to my response to the Blokes and Sheds deletion) slightly changed. Koro Neil (talk) 00:56, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi A.J. Good to hear from you. I first spotted you as a contributor to pages on places in Taranaki. I grew up in Waitara, apart from the first 19 months, when I lived in Midhirst. Although my parents were not churchgoers, I went to St John the Baptist Anglican Church as a child, but (ironically) became a Baptist at 16. However, the greater part of my Christian walk has been as an Apostolic, first in Christchurch, then here in Dunedin. But I don't really see my shift to the North East Valley Baptist Church in 2001 as a return. I have recently started taking services once a month in the Owaka Presbyterian Church, 110 or so km south of here. I also preach once, or occasionally twice a month in our own church. Interesting position for me, as the two churches are at different ends of the conservative evangelical spectrum.

Is there such a thing as an unorthodox Anglican? I mean, does anything count as unorthodox in Anglicanism? Oddly, I find that my shift from inerrantism doesn't stop God from speaking to me through Scripture. For example, there are things to be learned about the church if you're allowed to see the divide between Paul and James as possibly bigger than that between Protestantism and Catholicism. That's once you've sorted out that the two men gave different meanings to the words faith and works. So far as I can see, if you sorted out the church into Christians by Paul's definition or James's, you'd still end up with only one group of people. The Book of Jonah has a very "Once upon a time" feel to it, but if it's fiction, then it's divinely inspired fiction. Do I really believe that we may suffer because God has taken a bet with the devil? No, but the Book of Job says deep things about our human condition, and teaches us not to judge.

Not sure where I am these days on the Calvinism thing, except basically not. I was a moderate Calvinist (C.H. Spurgeon/Francis Schaeffer) for many years. Both hyper-Calvinism and an extreme Pelagianism sometimes seem to me to be valid these days. I even have the odd mystic moment of seeing them as really the same thing. I am a very great fan of G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis.

Boethius65 is a very close friend of mine. He shares with us a Taranaki upbringing (Eltham) and a Christian faith. He lived in Dunedin for quite a number of years, but moved a few years ago to Tokoroa.

Keep in touch. Koro Neil (talk) 00:49, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Request

Hello, User:A.J.Chesswas. I have noticed from your user page that you are a fan of or have an interest in The Smurfs series. There is currently a discussion concerning the merging of all individual articles on Smurf video games into one bigger article. I do not believe that any of the editors involved in the discussion (myself included) know much about the games and I was hoping you could provide us with the benefit of your opinion as an editor knowledgeable about the subject. If you are not interested in helping or if you believe yourself incapable at this time then please disregard this message. The discussion is currently under way here. Thanks for your time. -Thibbs (talk) 21:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated List of current Anglican Primates, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of current Anglican Primates. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Wikidas© 02:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
