The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, often shortened to Ultimate Showdown, is a comical song and video released on December 7 2005. It features music and lyrics by Lemon Demon with art and Flash animation from Shawn Vulliez.

The work features many famous real and fictional characters, largely taken from 1980s pop culture, in a huge brawl where "...only one will survive". It gained a large cult following among web enthusiasts[1] and became the "user's choice" on December 28 2005 on Newgrounds where it has been viewed over nine million times. It appeared on several other websites including Albino Blacksheep, Flash Portal, Transbuddha, Weebl's Stuff and then its own dedicated site: www.ultimateshowdown.org.

The song topped the "Funny Five" on The Dr. Demento Show for several weeks and was the #1 Request for 2006.[2]

The Ultimate Showdown is a bloody battle started by Godzilla and Batman. This is a list of its participants, in order of appearance in the video with notes on how they were defeated:

All fighters die, except for Mr. Rogers. Though Mr. Rogers impales himself through the abdomen, he survives (for at least until the end of the cartoon) and actually dances despite the flood of blood pouring out of his abdomen.

Commentary

  • Both artists have previously collaborated on a parody web site, eBaumsWorldSucks.com (subtitled "Media for Dumbasses", a pun on Ebaum's World's former slogan "Media for the Masses"), along with Abi Rendon (aka LegalCondom). "Lowtax" is seen punching Eric Bauman, a direct reference to this earlier work.

  • Chuck Norris' central role is an example of Norris being attributed superhuman power as in the notable internet joke Chuck Norris Facts.

  • When Shaquille O'Neal 'opened up a can of Shaq Fu', it referenced his own fighting game, which is often considered one of the worst games ever. Aaron Carter appearing to beat up Shaquille O'Neal is a reference to the song by Carter called "That's How I Beat Shaq" from "Aaron's Party (Come And Get It)".
  • In Destroy All Humans! 2, Cryptosporidium 137's clone, Crypto 138, references this song while fighting Kojira. He sings "Old Kojira was hoppin' around Takoshima city like a big playground" and then talks about how the song gets stuck in his head. Also, the black ninjas say "The Ultimate Showdown... of Ultimate Destiny!".
  • In the PSP game Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, the title of one of the Clank Battles is titled The Ultimate Showdown, with the subtitle saying it was "the Ultimate Showdown, of Ultimate Destiny..."
