The term "Konan" means "South of (the) [[lake]]". Konan is located in the south of [[Lake Biwa]].

In August, Konan Festival is held in Sinsui Park every 2 years. However a slight fire usually breaks out due to fireworks. Konan citizens are looking forward to this. others are maybe surprised at it. but every year, happened.
