I have been doing a little pokinh around and I have heard that there will not be a direct sequel to this game in the near future. The 'To be continued' that featured after the 'apocalypse' main ending certainly left a strong suggestion for a 'Final Fantasy XIII-3'. I heard from several sites that there will be multiple downloadable content which will expand upon the game's story and ending, including episodes for Lightning and., perhaps, Snow and Serah. So I think something about this should be added to the article, if only to put previously fevered minds like mine at rest. This is translated as "The place of promise" on the page, and while yakusoku does translate to promise, it means promise as in "a promise" rather than promise as in "promising" which the article implies as the definition in this context. I am trying to find more references for the music section, but I think an article on the music can be created, especially with concerns about the theme song and the music's creation as well. • "it is a direct sequel to the 2010 role playing game, Final Fantasy XIII, the thirteenth major installment in the Final Fantasy series. The game includes modified features from the previous game" It's somewhat ambiguous which game is being referred to as "The game".
• "Final Fantasy XIII-2 received highly positive reviews from Japanese critics, and generally positive reviews from Western video game journalists, who praised the gameplay, lack of linearity and graphics, but criticized the story as weak and confusing." I'd suggest breaking this into two sentences.

Gameplay

• I'd suggest trying to avoid the singular "they" in this section.
• "The game world is divided up into multiple regions and times, and includes both different regions at the same time and the same region at different times." Is there a more clear way to put this?
• "by foot or by chocobo." might want to briefly note what a chocobo is.

Combat system

• "which continually refills to a set maximum number of slots" Does something determine how quickly it refills or does it just refill at the same rate, i.e. in real time.
• "The game has both normal and easy modes." Seems like a kinda random place to note this.
• "and if too much time passes before combat begins the player is restricted from restarting the battle during combat" So you can generally restart each battle?
• "Each enemy has a meter, called a Chain Gauge, consisting of a percentage starting at 100 which increases when the enemy is struck by attacks or spells." Just so we're clear, it starts at 100% and then goes higher when they're attacked?
• "Attacks by different roles have different effects" When reading through I was confused as to what "roles" are at this point.
• "some raise the chain by a larger amount while others give the player longer before the Chain Gauge resets" By resets, you mean drops back to 100%, right?
• So the challenge with the Chain Gauge is to bring it up the the percent that causes "Staggered" before it resets? I think I understand now, but I found this paragraph somewhat confusing.
• "Unlike in Final Fantasy XIII, the player cannot summon Eidolons to fight." What is an "Eidolon"?

• "Due to the fall of Cocoon and the collapse of its government" ... "Over the course of the game, a scientific body called the Academy eventually becomes a technocratic government." This happened in the last game, right? I'm a little unclear about that.
• "The two main playable characters are Serah Farron, Lightning's sister" A bit confusing, we don't know who Lightning is at this point.
• "a young man originally from 700 years in the future" relative to what? 3 AF?
• "and willingly became a l'Cie to accomplish his goal" What's that?
• "an Academy member and survivor of the Purge." What's the Purge?
• I'm not sure if there's an easy way to explain, but what do they do to "resolve the paradox"?
• "Noel claims that this takes place around 400 AF, and devastates the human population as well as the world, resulting in the extinction of the species by his own time." So Noel isn't human? What is he?
• "Resolving the paradox, Noel and Serah travel to an alternate Academia." What time is this?
• "and risks death every time she changes the future.[15][10]" Refs should be in ascending numerical order.
• "In the full ending, Lightning is seen in crystal stasis on the throne of Etro's temple." Is there more than one ending?
  • There are multiple endings, and what was written there was not correct. The Lightning in stasis sequence is always shown in the main ending. The secret ending involves the antagonist Caius Ballad and Yeul. I have corrected / added to the information. The remainder of the "endings" are separate from the main ending and are called "Paradox Endings." They trigger bonus scenes that show optional pathways in time, but due to the effect of the Historia Crux, after viewing such an ending, the player is returned to the Historia Crux to continue gameplay, as if the ending never happened. • "According to Toriyama, with Vanille and Fang gone and Cocoon fallen, there was no way for the new story to be totally peaceful, while Kitase remarked that the story was intended to have the serious feel of a true numbered entry in the Final Fantasy series." & "The story for XIII-2 was structured differently than for XIII, as a series of smaller "pieces of drama" rather than one overarching story piece, and relying less on unfamiliar concepts and terms such as "l'Cie" and "fal'Cie"". Kind of long, might want to break these up.

Music

• There some repetition of "compose" in this section.

Reception

• "Parker praised the game's "smart, engaging mechanics" and the "novel structure" of the gameplay, and Joe Juba of Game Informer said that the changes to Final Fantasy XIII's battle system made it his favorite Final Fantasy battle system yet, and that the gameplay was "phenomenal"." & "VanOrd agreed that the combat was fun, though he found it to be too easy; the Edge review, which was harsher on the game than most others, also found it to be too easy, which combined with what they saw as poor subquests and lazy environment design made the gameplay uninteresting." & "VanOrd was less negative towards the characters and story than most others, but still described the characters as good but not great, focusing on the less interesting characters of Noel and Sarah over Lightning and Caius, and said that the story was "semi-coherent" and missed several emotional notes, particularly in the first half of the game." Kind of long, might want to break these up.
• Make sure you have a citation after every sentence with a direct quote.
• Is there any more you can say about the difference between Japanese and North American reviews? i.e. Why its reception in Japan was much better.

• Got nothing for you on this one; just a matter of taste, I suppose, but I don't have a source. This article mentions that this performer's vocals were used in the music of this game, and I clicked through looking to see what exactly they contributed to, however she is not mentioned here or on Music_of_Final_Fantasy_XIII-2

If her exact contribution could be listed in Music_of_Final_Fantasy_XIII-2 then the section it appeared in could be added to the link on Origa, improving both pages. Well, from looking at the album credits it looks like there were scattered vocals from 7 different performers, along with a children's chorus. Origa sang on 3 (out of 79) tracks- "New Bodhum", "New Bodhum - Aggressive Mix -", and "Historia Crux". The other tracks listed on that wikia are credited instead to DAGMUSIC LTD, which is a Japanese sound production company. I've added a line about the vocalists to Music of Final Fantasy XIII-2#Soundtrack, but without a source external to the soundtrack credits, or a more significant contribution beyond a handful of tracks each, I don't think that a track-by-track listing of who sang on what is warranted. --PresN 16:14, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As part of the current FA sweeps, I have reviewed this article to check against continued adherence to the FA criteria. The article hasn't significantly changed from its passing version the better part of a decade ago, though I have some thoughts on the article and its current state, as follows:

• The lead suffers from recent "this news came out, stuck it in the lead" issues with the Xbox info (that could be cited to better than tweets, as well.)
• There's some issues of organization that I found throughout, where the article suffers from some disordered thought. I fixed some of this in the lead, for example (where the article went from talking about release dates, to comparisons to XIII, back to release dates, then back to gameplay), but I notice it throughout, such as talking about the game camera, then easy/hard modes, then back to game cameras and world navigation in gameplay,
• The gameplay could use another pass for prose and comprehension cleanup. The explanation of the battle system especially is really hard to follow as someone not familiar with the FF series, and uses a lot of repetitious phrasing that makes it worse (also: choose either "the player" or "players", but it's weird to switch back and forth when it's talking about the same hypothetical person.)
  • Along those lines, explaining how every single thing is different or the same from XIII seems unnecessary for a general-purpose encyclopedia as opposed to a gaming wiki, and would make the prose read a lot better if some of these differences were cut, e.g. Monsters do not freely roam the map like in Final Fantasy XI to XIII, but instead, they randomly appear as in the earlier Final Fantasy games. (which doesn't really tell me what randomly appearing actually means, anyhow.) Same with mentioning the Eidolons at the end—why throw another proper noun that isn't relevant to understanding this game at people?
• lthough the developers were explicitly responding to the criticism, they saw the changes and additions as making the sequel in line with what players had hoped Final Fantasy XIII would be, rather than backing away from the changes that game had brought to the series. I can't really parse what this sentence is trying to say, because if they explicitly designed XIII-2 to respond to criticism and make the game more like people hoped XIII would be, that doesn't seem to equal not backing down from the changes they made.
• The Marketing section doesn't really seem to be focused on marketing. It's mostly a bunch of development quotes and rumor-mill stuff.
• Performed a ref spot-check, since that didn't appear to have been done at the FAC at the time. Checked current refs 2, 7, 8, 11, 25, 28, 29, 42, 46, 52, 57, 66, 70, 76, 83, and 87.
  • You've got a bunch of refs that are archived but should have the url-status=dead field since they are now 404s or redirects.
  • Citations are a bit inconsistent in formatting (using work/website fields versus publisher fields for similar info, etc.)
  • I think smaller page ranges for citations from the manual would be ideal. Given how it's easy for gameplay sections to get unverifiable stuff added in, it's an extra problem if someone needs to go through a 20-page range to try and figure out if it's cited or not.
  • Doesn't appear ref 7 fully cites the entire paragraph about random encounters and battles that comes before it.
  • Don't think ref 11 is a good citation for the section it's citing (it's also before XIII, so it's a bit misleading where it seems like it's supporting XIII-2 and XIII's similarities.)
  • Final line of plot misquotes game dialogue (says "curses" but the attached citation just says "curse".)
    • On the subject, I'm not sure the primary plot quotes are really worth including here, since implicitly the game is the source for all the information (at least directly in the plot section) and I'm left wondering why some parts are cited and others aren't.
  • Cite 29 (Webcitation) wasn't working for me when I tried accessing it on multiple different days.
  • Not sure It would ship an additional 200,000 to 400,000 copies according to Square Enix press releases. Its Steam release sold over 330,000 copies by early 2016.
