NASA Astronaut Group 21 is a group of eight astronauts selected in June 2013.
History
NASA announced the creation of this astronaut group in October 2011 and began accepting applications for astronaut hires in November 2011 and closed the process in January 2012.[1][full citation needed]
6,372, a near record number of applications, were received. The only year NASA has received more applications was in 1978 leading up to the Space Shuttle program.[2]
As of 2011[update], NASA projected training for this group of astronauts would commence in August, 2013.[3][4]
