links to external accounts[edit]

I followed the link to the ANI discussion and I think I understand what is the issue. I felt it could be explained a bit better for anyone just reading this page without any admin or tech insight.

First I removed the explanation of why not to share passwords, this should be obvious and we should keep these points short.

I reused some of the text in a separate sentence about why it can be a bad idea to link to other accounts. Maybe we should explain why this is done? (It's done because it's convenient: setting up essentially a bookmarks page you can reach from every browser to your commonly accessed email and other accounts). I did not attempt this to avoid getting verbose. CapnZapp (talk) 08:15, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Privileged editors[edit]

I removed what appears to be out of date information. The link just says the special rules were replaced two years ago by global policy (which is already linked). If I have misunderstood anything feel free to restore. CapnZapp (talk) 08:44, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why does 2FA require high permissions?[edit]

I can't think of any reason that 2FA would let vandels disrupt the project. It would actually benefit Wikipedia because it would help defend against account hijacking. Am I missing something? Why is this a hard-to-obtain privilege? Anonymous from Stack Overflow (talk) 12:26, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question about account sharing[edit]

One of the passages on page Wikipedia:User account security is ... due to violation of [...] standards on account sharing. Is there any policy/guideline/essay that elaborates on the issue of sharing a Wikipedia account by multiple people? —andrybak (talk) 14:21, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, found it: WP:NOSHARING. It's hard to find because it is part of Wikipedia:Username policy. —andrybak (talk) 14:31, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
